I swear to God, this Joe and Hammer talk is depressing as ****. As far as I'm concerned neither should ever play Superman.
Damn shame to hear about Cavill, he was my favorite until we found out he didn't meet certain criteria, and if true, I understand the WB completely for not considering him.

on Twitter just now, LATherocomplex just said: Henry Cavill is Superman, Warner Bros says.

He's legit

This is crazy, I remember at one point Henry Cavill was considered a strong contender to play Supes in the Bryan Singer movie. It´s even crazier that he hasn´t been in any major hits since then but ultimately won the part.

Terrible Choice . Why did they pick another unknown actor to play Superman . One of the reasons why the Superman returns flopped is because a lot of the actor were unknown except for Kevin Spacey

This is so effin awesome. hell yeeeeeeeahhh, A good actor with a terrific look. Way to go WB, Cavill will do great.

Here´s a manip of Cavill as Supes. A little boyish, IMO, but he has a squarish jaw.

Thats so funny! I was literally watching Tudors with my gf about 3 hours ago and we were talking about how great Henry Cavill is. I was saying he'd make a great DC superhero and she was saying he could play Errol Flynn. I guess I won.

This is just... CRAZY!!!

My primary choice after an unknown...

I still dont believe it. It's like a dream headline... or an evil prank.

WOW! And so many people thought he couldnt possibly get it. And that wouldnt even be looked at.

Tis' amazing!!!

Word. It's just like when they cast that Reeve guy to play Superman in the first movie. Unknown actors never work out! :cmad:

Wow, I'll be perfectly honest - I did NOT see this one coming. After his experience with "almost" getting the role in the past, I was sure Cavill wold have moved on. I guess I was wrong.

As people who are aware of my posts on these boards, I'm not a Cavill supporter. I never was. It was my dream to see Routh return, and now it looks like that won't happen.

Cavill is a fine actor...I've seen a few of his films/TV shows, and there's no denying his ability. The question that still remains in my mind is whether or not he can convincingly play the Superman that we all know and love. Looks are only part of this equation, and while Cavill doesn't epitomize the illustrated form of Superman in MY mind (which is very much Byrne inspired), I certainly see how he can be made to properly look like a true Man of Steel.

It for these reasons, above all and excluding my previous reservations about him, that I'm going to give Cavill a chance. He wasn't ,my first pick, but they could have done far worse (Joe M).

Now we look forward to the costume...

This is a tired and pointless argument, neither Tobey Maguire nor Hugh Jackman or even Chris Reeve himself were household names when they were cast as superheroes.

Neither was Bale and RDJ was a huge risk1

That´s right, he´s in Tudors. Not the most popular cable show, but a respected one.

Tobey Maguire was famous before Spiderman , Look at Pleasantville and Wonder Boys

If this is true, then WB has gone against their prior feelings and decision on casting a not-so-masculine guy as Superman. Not sure I am buying this as of yet.

That´s right, althought Bale, Maguire and RDJ had critical respect, none of them lead a major BO hit, and RDJ was considered a high risk due to his past drug problems.
