I liked this issue, remember it's only Roberson second issue.

To me it felt like a nice spin of from his Superman/Batman issues. I hope Batsman shows up later.

People laughed at the idea of a smallpox Green Lantern fighting a virus Sinestro Corps member inside of Guy but this is cool?

Well, yeah, 'cause those are Green Lanterns. They patrol space. Why would you want a smallpox virus patrolling several parsecs of space? It's just inefficient.

Superman's a more universal concept. Works on all scales and in all situations. Also, solar systems are cool.

i liked the good idea superman.....i thought it was....a good idea.

Wow, some of those Superman Squad members sounded like a joke:

- a solar system
- a good idea
- Superbatman

You know it's bad when a giant gorilla is the least ridiculous member of your team.

How can you hate a giant gorilla :csad:

I certainly liked this issue more than the last. The first half was really fun stuff (moreso than the second half), with the exception of the inconsistency you mentioned Tron Bonne involving Superman in the future. I too kept thinking, "why is Superman so surprised by this? Doesn't he visit the Legion often?"

Anyways, the Superman Squad was indeed cool. I want a series based on Superbatman.

Yeah, exactly. I don't know if he has the same relationship with The Supermen Squad as the Legion, but his shock of 'This is the future!!!!!!!!!!' was way too over-the-top. I mean, that's kind of a minor thing overall, but just something that struck me.

I loved the Supermen Squad.

Superman Squad should team up with Batman Inc

Does anyone else kind of hate the fact that Kara is casually replacing Matrix for this Doomsday story? It just makes me miss Matrix all over again. :csad:

Yeah, that does kind of suck. I don't know much about the current Supergirl, though.

That would be the greatest comic ever. Too bad it's too awesome to exist in this dimension.

Superman Solicitations for May

Well Doomsday rears his head in Cornell's book. Damn. Also, Son of Superman is an instant buy.

Well, I have enough faith in Cornell to think he'll do something interesting with it. Kind of seems like it's may be an interesting twist; four Supermen came to step up for Superman, and now Superman has to come and step up for them. If it sucks, hopefully it's something that's not too long. Cool to see Livewire in Superman, though, seems like it's been awhile.

And holy shuttle*****, I had no idea that big ol' JH did art for Son of Superman.

So will people still think Leo Quintum from All Star Superman is Lex Luthor even AFTER Grant Morrison's commentary on All Star Supes movie?

Here's my blu-ray review:
Story, Casting:
I loved the voice acting, especially Anthony Lapaglia as Lex Luthor, Christina Hendricks as Lois Lane and Arnold Vosloo as Bar-el, not to mention John Dimaggio as Aquaman Atlantis, OUTRAGEOUSNESS!!!!

James Denton is spot on Superman. He is laidback and kind, what more do you need from the Man of Steel? Now when they said the story woud be 90% loyal i got overhyped, because ultimately they meant the essence of the story and not in actual context, but i still loved the movie, oh god was this a good way to say goodbye and show what a total god of pure good and innocence Superman is, and i love him for that. We humans are imitators, horses don't try to fly nor do fishes try to run, but we humans try to imitate everything almost. We need to look up for the angels or in this better case Superman and imitate him, because he inspires the best of us and he gains power thru us.

The action is awesome as heck for the little action scenes it has, the dialogue is purely awesome and highly physicist since they talk all atoms and other stuff, but yeah i'm glad the dialogue didn't get too much changed, tho i wish Superman had said "theres always a way" in one particular shot, but it's Lois Lane in this movie who says that. Luthor's niece is hilariously awesome, but it's a shame we didn't get Leopold the monkey!

The altered ending took me by surprise, but it was kinda good and bad at the same time, they redeemed Lex Luthor which he never does in the comic, but it never showed Leo consult with Superman so they kinda give an heir to Superman because they demanded a new being of greatness to imitate, but after all Superman KNOWS this because he has seen his future hair, so it all fits. =)

9/10 for this awesomesauce

Best part, the Bruce Timm & Grant Morrison commentary
First things first: Grant Morrison loved the altered ending and wished he had done something same to redeem Lex Luthor in his own story.

Bruce Timm praises the hell out of Morrison, talking about his love to All Star Superman and New X-Men, he didn't know somethings we're from the comics such as Luthor's niece and other things referring them as "total Morrison ideas". He also loved the corny dialogue that only works for Superman such as "YOu broke the moon!" and "i will love you to the end of times" and Morrison states that this is the stuff he should be exactly saying as it only works out for him. They also talk about their favcorite hero movies ranging from Morrison's Walt Disney Hercules to Bruce all time favorite the Incredibles. Timm also talks how hard it was to capture Quitely's art and how much work they did for it, then also talking about why some scenes they felt didn't first make sense but ultimately did, and how the musical score helped make things truly epic. His only fear seemed to be how the general public sees this film and was very happy that Morrison embraced it.

Extras, even more greatness:
Superman Now: It's pretty much a 30 minute short documentary spinning on how All Star Superman became alive and what inspired it. Did you know #1 starts with the sun rising, #6 with the moon rising and the story concluding with the sun rising once more? This 12 issue epic that spins a whole year arguebly is also like 1 massively epic day for Superman. I never noticed that! Dan Didio even went all the way to Glasglow to visit Morrison to talk about these things. Morrison also reports another story of meeting a cosplaying Superman and talks how he was inspired by how laid back the most invulnurable Superhero should be, as this guy was just all relaxed and it gave a big impact on Morrison.

Morrison's father had also died around the time he started writing this comic, and he does talk about his emotional impact on this work, along with explaining that no matter how strong Superman is, or how weak Batman is compared to him: Personal conflicts and emotionals are always the biggest threaths for the men in spandex and normal people.

He also talked how he demanded that the art would demonstrate emotions, not simply insert dialogue where someone states they're sad and whatnot, the kind of beatiful emotional power you can see from great art.

Bizarro world was inspired by the idea of pure depression. We also get a 10 minute video look of Morrison's notepad that had stuff from the late 90s to modern day before all star Superman, showing couple of things that clearly show Morrison has been ahead of the curve in some regards. :wow::wow:

Green Lantern: Emerald Knights preview: Krona is the main villain of the movie, but the main character isn't actually Hal Jordan but it's Arisia. Hal Jordan is the backbone and narrator of the story, wheres Arisia is the new member and the eyes of the viewers who are being introduced to the GL universe. Kilowog's origin will be shown. Abin Sur will have a flashback story too. Laira is the most order following soldier of the story who uses her martian mart skills. Also we will see Sinestro Corp in this movie.

Animation style is pretty much the same as GL: First Flight. =) Also they're using TECHNO music and orchestral, wohoo!!!!!

If you love All Star Superman, you need to purchase this. If you love Grant Morrison, then you need to purchase the best edition for all the juicty things.

Man, Drz McPez, how many times we got to have this conversation? It's a theory, based on the text and things within. Ain't nobody saying it's absolutely one-hundred percent there and holding a gun to your head to make you believe it if you don't, since it's not explicitly said, but it's something that comes from close reading. By Morrison's own admittance he likes to write his more modern work with little holes and hints in them for examination and to make just such theories like these. It really doesn't matter if he says he intended it that way or not, that's just how he writes. Unless you think he's lying with that statement or something, but then you have to face that he's lying about the statement you're presenting. The only way to 'prove' it wrong one way or the other is to go to the text and show how it doesn't work, or is contradicted, which you haven't done.

Well actually the story doesn't even work like i've said before. Morrison's time travel is linear, so if Lex went from the future to past to redeem himself, he never does go and redeem himself but to murder Superman and make more of him. If Lex Luthor never went from the future to the past, Superman would have never gotten the overload of sun and died.

Again, Morrison in the commentary states he prefers the movie's ending because it redeemed Lex Luthor, and talks how his story never does.

I think you need to re-read the Pa Kent episode of All Star Superman.

Again, Morrison in the commentary states he prefers the movie's ending because it redeemed Lex Luthor, and talks how his story never does.
And again, that doesn't really mean anything. Did you miss the part where he specifically writes to put such holes in these stories? Or do you believe he's lying about that? Then how do you know he's not lying about this?

Sure he likes to do things anonymously, but when on newsarama he says Leo is Leo, when in Absolute All Star Superman (which you own) the notes on Leo simply talk about him being a good professor character and now Morrison loving the dvd ending because it redeems Luthor, the odds are againts you as usual.

Anonymously? You mean ambiguously, I guess? But no, by saying that it basically cancels out your whole statement. When a writer says they write like that (not just generally, but specifically goes out of there way to do so), by its the very definition, there's going to be possible and perfect viable interpretations that he didn't necessarily plan out himself. That's ultimately what makes art art, the ability to examine things and bring more interpretation to a work past its surface level. Great works tend to outgrow their authors.

Yeah, you can't just make stuff up, but you also have to able to prove a theory wrong of contradictory based on the text. You're tried to do that with your time travel example, but based on the Smallville section of the story, it doesn't work based on how All Star Superman sets up time.

And besides, the notes don't just say that; I recall there's also something about their being a 'little devil' in the character, which of course, could imply all kinds of things.

Tron Bonne your new avatar is :awesome: sauce on toast

Thanks

Hey, anyone remember when I told Drz that Morrison himself would probably be the last person to support his crazy crusade against interpreting Quintum as Lex and Drz was like, "Bwuh?" Good times. :awesome:

Lex vs Larfleeze next month

That comic book will be fun on a bun

A bun made of fun. It is a fun sandwhich
