The Official Superman Thread - Part 3

Guys like Reed Richards. Spends his days wearing a diaper sitting in a hyperbolic chamber, whacked out on psychedelic drugs, while his wife scribbles down his random rants on a legal pad.

Which leads me to feel really bad for his wife. :o

That's okay, she's banging a sailor on the side.

Action 6 confused me brain, I'm just a tad lost, how did he get his costume from Superman when last time we saw him he was Springsteen Superman? The Krypton issue and this issue seemed out of place, just how I feel.

Did you....like....read that bit at the end of issue 4 where it said the story for that whole Springsteen stuff would be continued in issue 7 or 8 and that the next few issues would be in Superman's future? Or did you, like, not read that part?

To be fair I read that like what a month and a half ago so I forgot, thanks though nubs!

Don't mention it. It's my duty as a Hypster to inform and be helpful in a snide and elitist sorta way. :o

I'm gonna pick up issue 7 just to see how they justify this terrible costume design and then i'm done with the Superman books. I haven't enjoyed any of them.

I'd be lying if I said I was enjoying it as well. I don't think anything can justify this horrible Superman redesign though. :barf:

What can you not like? This is what we were promised when the whole re-launch was planned and honestly it's some of the best Superman I have read in years.

He was talking about the costume design, I think. You could think the stories are awesome, but the redesign could still suck

Old Tyler over there seems to hate the stories too.

Which is nigh unfathomable.

Yes...sorry I will clarify. The biggest problems I do have are the new look, the reinterpretation of Clark (alienated loner), no longer being with Lois, both parents no longer living (yes I know Jonathan recently died anyway, but we had him around for much of his Superman career) I miss Martha.
The story in Superman is OK (hardly the best in years IMO) but Action not so much (I'm just not a fan of this "Springsteen" Superman). I'm a huge Superman fan so I am really trying to give this a chance, but I feel the best stuff from New 52 is what they changed the least ie. Batman, Aquaman, Green Lantern.....I understand that there are those that love this; I just can't say I'm one of them (I actually get excited about DC Universe Online Legends now).

I'm just thankful Superman's characterization no longer sucks.

supermans characterization and story in Action is good. The characterization and story in Superman sucks. the designs suck in both of them.

The costume's basically the only thing I don't like at this point. Action Comics has been great and I'm gonna try out Superman when Giffen and Jurgens start on it. Clark's new characterization as a poor man's Peter Parker is unnecessary in my opinion, but it's not really like anyone was doing anything worthwhile with the previous version of Clark anyway. Clark as Superman can kind of grate on my nerves a bit with his sanctimoniousness, but the core of the character is still intact and the "defender of the underdog" angle is good when he's not preaching or posturing.

The one thing really keeping me on the Superman book is that Lois seemingly knows that Clark is Superman...but he doesn't know that she knows. It's an interesting take on the mythos, and adsense some credence to her actually being a legitimate investigative journalist.

I hope Superman needs to modify his suit soon, after a big ol' battle. Make it happen Grant!

Also, just wondering, does Grant's Action progressively get closer to the present day, or does it just jump straight from the origin to the present?

It's still sticking around the past. The most recent issue was a one-issue detour that still technically took place in the past; we just saw it from the present-day Superman's perspective thanks to the Legion's time-travel shenanigans.

I thought that after the origin, Grant was moving to the present? I'm fine either way, because I wanna see Grant write a grown up Superman, but I also wanna see Superman's past.
