Me either. I'm gonna give it one or two more issues before it's dropped.

I am giving it two more issues

It's a shame, because it'll mean I won't be reading Superman in any ongoings until Cornell's stint with Lex on Action Comics is done.

Superman/Batman is kind of neat

yeah, kind of. Some of the stories are great, but when Jeph Loeb touches it, it stinks like rotting maggots on a pig farm. There was a period of time when Loeb was so good and I would buy anything he wrote, but the last 5 or so years has been terrible for him as a writer (have you seen his Marvel stuff? WTF.) . Maybe he's getting too old to understand comics. And on top of Loeb, Geoff Johns is kind of hit or miss, though he really hasn't done Superman/Batman and I dunno... with a few exceptions, Today's writers are way off when you compare them to the comic book gods of the 70's, 80's and 90's.

There have been a few Superman stories (mainly mini-series) to come out of the 2000's that were great, but the magic is lost!

Grounded is kind of ... odd.

I think JMS isn't really getting his point across very well, it's almost as heavy handed as Dennis O'Neill Green Lantern/Green Arrow stuff. They are allowed to be a bit heavy handed they were written a long time ago one of the first comics to do that.

Grounded though, JMS is a seasoned writer, I thought he'd handle the subject mater better.

So, I've caught up with grounded and I like it. I'm not a superman hater, barely a fan, but I like JMS' writing enough to read Superman. Saying that, I need to know what are some good collected superman stories, if any? I never hated the character, I just didn't care for him enough to read him in comics.

My recommendations:

All-Star Superman
Superman For All Seasons
Superman: Exile
Superman: For Tomorrow
Superman: Secret Identity (Haven't read this yet but I hear it's really good)
Superman: Man of Steel Vol 1-6.
Superman: For the Man Who Has Everything
Superman: Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?

And if you want to go further and pick up some "classic" comics:
Superman Chronicles Vol.1-5 (collects the golden age comics)
Superman In the Seventies

It's the whole Forest Gump walking across America part that makes it so corny, then he has Supes too preachy. Don't have Supes preach, have him DO. I love the idea of Superman advocating for the common man, JMS just is too heavy handed and too tentative in the wrong places for it to work.

All-Star Superman (pretty good)
Superman For All Seasons
Superman: Exile
Superman: For Tomorrow (contrived and ridiculous)
Superman: Secret Identity (terrible)
Superman: Man of Steel Vol 1-6.
Superman: For the Man Who Has Everything
Superman: Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?

The golden age stuff is okay, but not my Superman.
The Superman in the 70's was a bit too romantic, but it had part of the Sandman saga which was good.

I thought this was awesome. From Paul Cornell's twitter:

This week I'm writing Vandal Savage, who sounds, in my head, like Brian Blessed

While Gorilla Grodd sounds like Sydney Greenstreet.

Dear lord, I never thought of that before but it makes absolutely perfect sense. :hehe:

(Blessed, I mean; I don't know who Greenstreet is. :o)

He's the rotund man from Maltese Falcon and Casablanca. They both fit perfectly.

Oh, I never saw Casablanca and I watched The Maltese Falcon years and years ago. I should watch it again...

I've heard some people argue that without Bogart in Casablanca, we wouldn't have Tony Stark characterized the way he is. and it's just a dang good movie. You should see it, Corp.

And they say that Wilson Fisk is modeled after Greenstreet's character in Maltese Falcon.

Blessed doesn't exactly look like an eternally youthful dude at this point. ;) But for a voice-over, totally.

Maybe this is cliched, but personally, Sydney Greenstreet always reminded me of the Penguin, especially in The Maltese Falcon. If they made a Batman movie back in the 40s, he'd be absolutely perfect for the role. :awesome:

Superman solicitations for December, there will be walking. Well, AC sounds fun, but I'm not liking this crossover idea since I'm not reading Secret Six. The annual could be fun, though. I see WW is on the Superman cover, wonder what that's about. Also, looks like Kelly wasn't the regular writer on Superman/Batman, very disappointing

yea i really don't like the newest solicitation for the grounded arc.

Writer G. Willow Wilson (AIR) and newcomer Leandro Oliveira provide a “Grounded” interlude in October’s SUPERMAN #704, detailing a visit Lois Lane makes to the town where she went to college in anticipation of Superman’s arrival. When she runs into an old boyfriend and sees the nice, normal family he has, Lois is can’t help but examine the choices she made and wonder if they were the correct ones.

i know it's a filler but still ties to JMS, leave the marriage alone!

JMS actually did pretty well with Spidey's and MJ's marriage before, well...you know, but I think it's fair to say that was an editorial decision in the overall arc of things, not his.

The Action Comics Secret Six crossover sounds really neat
