It was okay, but its not enough, it better pick up soon.

Anyway, I was going to say that I thought the issue was okay, fairly enjoyable, but after dissing Kingdom Come, I fear that having opposite opinions of the mob on two different books with such fierce beliefs for and against them, respectively, that I would open myself up to ridicule and I just don't want to have to defend myself.

Stupid question - Donner's stuff is mainstream continuity now?

The stuff Donner is doing in the Comics are standard continuity, But I don't think the movies are being retconned in. Just a few of the elements.

I think the way they advertised it, you should be expecting more than just "solid".

sethcohen so, their basically trying to tie into superman returns.

no, but just as bad... why the **** cant lois just get knocked up by clark and have a kid themselves? worst cop out in the entire history of comics if you ask me

i kinda liked you, but now, **** YOU DAN DIDIO and **** YOU GEOFF JOHNS, you and singer can go have an orgy with donner since you love the garbage he spews so much... *******s

On another note it was nice to see Conner again even though Superman was kicking his butt the whole time we saw him. Also it was nice to see Tim as Batman again.

a) wrong thread
b) i didnt even catch that! i thought it was the doplegangers from the cyndicate, but then i wondered why they would be dressed as bats and supes if they hadnt encountered them yet... now it makes sense!

Jeez, when did Perry become J. Jonah Jameson?

With all of their continuity ****-ups just for the sake of continuity ****-ups, I definitely would've preferred that DC had used IC to simply restart things the way they did with COIE. I mean, they're not even trying to portray the characters within their established personalities anymore, in Superman's books at least; nor are they putting to use any of the 20 years of character development that we've seen for any member of Superman's cast, with the exception of Lois and Clark being married.

I mean, seriously DC, stop dancing around it and just say it: you're restarting everything Superman-related and only picking and choosing a specific set of plotpoints to keep from his post-crisis history. Don't feed us "Oh, Emoboy only changed these couple points in Superman's history," and in the following months, when your characters act completely against past characterizations, Jimmy reverts back to a teenager and loses the entire career that he's built, Lex becomes Hackman/Spacey, Clark becomes a joke once more, and the Cyborg still exists without the birthing matrix being in continuity, you'll tell us "Oh yeah, uhh... Emoboy changed those things too, I guess. He also caused every other continuity and writing flaw that you'll notice for the next 20 years."

Kurt Busiek stated that they were planning on picking and choosing certain aspects of Supermans long history, to make up the the new continuity. They never said that they were gonna revert completley to the golden age, silver age ect.

Well, I just read it. I actually thought it was pretty good. As All-Star Superman said, it's very cinematic, it seems very much like a movie, but at the same time, it seems to fit very well with some of the more...recent comics they're putting out with Superman; Birthright, Up, Up and Away, etc.

I can definitely see how that'd piss off long-time Superman readers, but at the same time, I think DC might be trying to escape Superman's past of overly long, confusing plot lines and stories, and just try to turn out some really classic, Superman stories. With that said, it might've been a bit better if they put a story like this in the All Star title or something like that, but as a stand-alone story, I liked it.

I got the issue and wow! It ws awesome, can't wait for next month now. :super:

explain how its awesome? i dont get it... i really dont get it

Exactly what I have a problem with; and to note what I hate about the movies. Superman is basically a human, the whole point he is a hero is because he was raised by the Kents - dispite being an alien he is actually more human than a lot of us, that's why he is a Superhero and not an Emperor of Earth.

Anyway; those previews just show that I don't want to read this book - what I thought all along.

PASS.

Get them off action and put Joe Kelly or Rucka back on and in the mean time I'll get good Superman writing from Buisek's Superman.

It's been awhile since I've discussed this, so I might be a bit rusty.

Superman is an alien, raised by humans. He's a hero not only because of the Kents' upbringing, but because of his heritage which he finds pride in so much that he wears the Kryptonian crest for hope. I think the fact that he's an alien raised as a human is important, because it's the alien side that allows him to see the big picture that others can't. He can see the potential in people and wants to help them reach it through leading by example. Superman could rule the world, but he chooses to serve his adopted race. It takes an alien to show people how to really be human. It's one of the elements that makes the character unique.

Thats what's great about sage. he sees the balance the characters need.

people blast DC for supposedly making supes too alien and ignoring the human side, when they want supes to be all human and ignore his alien side

Action Comics #844-Donner. Johns. Kubert. This story arc is being hyped as the second coming of Christ and as I had predicted, it failed miserably. Not only for being a rehash of the Supergirl arc in S/B, but the one factor that I was actually looking forward to the art, was terrible. Kubert dropped the ball big time with this style. I honestly tried to give this book a chance, but from ******* Perry White, ******ed Jimmy Olsen, Brandon Routh guest starring as Clark kent, da kid, and the art, I couldnt enjoy the book at all. The little quarky jokes like Superman telling Sarge Steel he shouldnt smoke in front of kids and Drink your orange juice were funny, if this was 1977. And did Johns lose all concept of pacing? This issue was everywhere, it just zoomed through like a chicken with its head cut off. I dont know, I may have to drop action but that saying a lot considering I stuck through the Austen era, im willing to give everything a second shot, but consider me disappointed. 4/10

How can you be disappointed if you thought it was going to suck before it came out

Because I thought it was going to suck, but had hopes that it wouldnt. Its like the definition of disappointed.

Gotta love how everyone wants to dismiss the entire arc after one issue.

"Remember kids, dont forget to drink your orange juice!"

How are they going to forget if its on the table with them??
