Actually, people do that all the time. With good and bad series.

I thought it was pretty solid--hasn't wowed me yet, but did enough to at least keep me interested enough to pick up the next issue.

Gotta love how everyone wants to dismiss the entire arc after one issue.

Most people dismissed it before one issue came out. To be fair, you read comics long enough and about 80% of the time you'd be able to tell what you'll like before you read it. The last 20% is a nice surprise.

Its like watching a bad movie, you know its bad in the first 20 minutes.

DC should consider themselves lucky I didnt drop Action as soon as i heard Donner was on it and decided to give it a chance... have you read it? seriously... paint a target on lois folks, because that may be the stupidest thing superman (with his new SUPERBRAIN) has ever done... ever... he should have spirited the child away from the crash site to begin with at the speed of sound and had mister terrific or batman test him instead... case closed, donner sucks

Please. If being married to Superman isn't enough of a 'target' on Lois, then adding a kid hardly makes that much more of a difference. And considering how much of a dick Batman was when Kara Zor-El showed up (going as far as having Wonder Woman ambush them and kidnap her), why wouldn't Superman be a little leery of taking the kid to the Cave or to the JSA?

I personally don't see what's so horrible here. But then again, I buy comics so I can actually enjoy reading them, not dump on them for the sake of dumping on them.

a) the government knows what that kid looks like... im sure they have photographs... how does he expect to raise that child as clark kent without exposing himself as superman? thats why i said paint a target on lois... its not public knowledge...
b) i buy comics because i enjoy them too... what a coincedence? i got 5 books this week and liked 4... ion was good as usual, supes/bats rocked, the boys was a little slow but still great and even though it was a little lacking, trials of shazam still rocked... which leaves book 5, Action Comics... so ya, i guess i buy comics to dump on them... my bad... sorry

well Seth you forget your talking about a man who can put on a pair of glasses and no one is any wiser. So whats to say the same won't happen to the kid. Either dye his hair or cut it and there you go. Its not that hard. But then again you have to expect some people not to be okay with this like the wedding.

i would be a bit more open to it if it was their child... or even if supes didnt so blatently risk the lives of everyone he loves by possibly revealing his identity... i get the glasses thing, but the government also doesnt have a still photo/video of supes face... you know? no one does... i really think this could have been gone about in a better way... only reason im sticking with this is because i want to see how the hell donner and johns explain this kid being from krytpon and not rehashing something thats been done recently...

Please, in the issue itself, its setting up Lex Luthor kidnapping the kid, which ill promise happens in the next 2 issues.

the only thing missing was the scene where luthor rubs his hands together menacingly while laughing loudly, then orders otis, kumar and kitty to go get the kid!

donner cant make scrappy doo suck any more than the scooby doo movie did

It's been awhile since I've discussed this, so I might be a bit rusty.

Superman is an alien, raised by humans. He's a hero not only because of the Kents' upbringing, but because of his heritage which he finds pride in so much that he wears the Kryptonian crest for hope. I think the fact that he's an alien raised as a human is important, because it's the alien side that allows him to see the big picture that others can't. He can see the potential in people and wants to help them reach it through leading by example. Superman could rule the world, but he chooses to serve his adopted race. It takes an alien to show people how to really be human. It's one of the elements that makes the character unique.
I totally agree that Superman is something much more than human and that it physically influences how he lives and how he reacts to the world. His Kryptonian lineage influences his life far more than, say, an adopted kid of French descent raised in Spain or something.

But still, IMO it's really stupid and retreadtastic for people to always be like, "YOU CAN NEVER BE ONE OF THEM, YOU ARE A KRYPTONIAN AND WILL ALWAYS BE ALONE!!!!!" when he has a family of loving parents and beautiful wife and obnoxious cousin(s), a stable human job that he's good at, a home in his favorite city in the world, and a league of life-long friends and allies who accepts him for exactly what he is. He has more human ties than a lot of humans do; for him to still feel like an outcast or something just makes him come across as mopey and whiney and melodramatic. It might work for the movies where he has no real friends and one parent is dead and Lois isn't with him, but it's out of place here. And for Jor-El to be constantly reminding him, almost trying to convince him of his solitude, makes Jor-El come across as a jealous and spiteful parent who doesn't want his son to be happy. "You're not one of them, you're one of us damnit!!"

To me, it comes across as someone who doesn't want his heritage and race to be completely forgotten due to his son's success at adapting to the human race.

I thought the issue was solid. Throwing the movie stuff aside, it was a pretty good comic book. Read this with an open mind and judge it as comic book. It's pretty okay. 3 1/2 stars out of 5 for me.

I agree. In Birthright, Jonathan Kent reacted very much the same way when Clark started talking about taking on a 'new identity.' Just means that both father-figures want to make sure their son remembers the things they taught him (even if they're on opposite sides of the coin).

People who don't think you can't judge a single issue are f***ing stupid.

Weak issue. It didn't suck nearly like I thought it would, but it wasn't exciting in the least. Even his "badass" moment was boring. And Kubert's art was very weak.

Yea, considering your taste by the way you've judged other comics, and you prob think your lame ass Sig is hilarious..I think i'll keep reading it and judge it on my own. Donner made a few of my Favorite movies, and Johns has written some of my favorite stories. So case Closed, You suck.:o

Personally I judged it as the 1997 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition. It won.

You know, I was reading Wizard and the "Building a Better Bizarro" article pissed me off even further. Right Johns, Bizarro has sucked ass for the last 40 years or such, youre the only one to see that. Thank you for making him much cooler.

ok ok, im being a harsh *******... ill admit it... i like alot of donners work... most of it in fact, anything superman being the exception... i feel like the comics were something sacred that the movies havent been able to live up to and now the movie are seeping into them which obviously infuriates me... as for johns... i pick up atleast 3 of his books a month off the top of my head, so i usually like him... im not too fond of the direction hes started taking supes nor the direction hes talked about thus far... i agree with alot of people on here that its like taking 2 steps back...

as for my sig... i know, its old... it was funny like 4 months ago when the killa nilla jokes started... ive been too lazy to change it since i havent come up with anything good... anything else you care to rip into me about? i still maintain donner/johns' supes sucks... but im just curious if theres something else youd like to personally attack me for... you know, while youre at it? why stop now right? why not attack me for attacking others? oh wait... you did that not me...

I find your sig to be amusing, but thats because I started the whole Killa Nilla thing.
