The Official The Last Guardian Thread!!!

Usually when it been this long it is ether cancelled or it's been through what Metal gear rising became with it becoming Revengence or what happened with overstrike becoming fuse ( look what happened there) and other stuff. (that would be the upcoming final fantasy installment Rain bow six and prey 2 to name a few and I'm sure there's more that I'm forgetting.) all of them being repurposed and rebranded in name and game play somehow.

Besides IGN put their foot in their mouth when they said Rocksteady was making a ninja turtles ip. well they reported it like it was fact any way til Shefton hill shot it down. lol

I'll just wait for sony to finally admit that it's ether dead or come out with it and show us it's still alive. But it has to be from Sony.

I hope sony comes out at E3 and says its coming out but for ps4 and a new trailer and a realize date or a window at least.

That's what I said once too, ( they are holdin out with it on next gen) but I'm taking the cautious "wait and see approach now." They will show it , when they show it. if it's still a live.

It's going to be their "oh.. And one more thing" with a big next gen trailer and they'll say "buy it this fall."

Yeah. I feel the "canceled" announcement was done intentionally.

You guys really think it will come out this year? I'd still be surprised if we saw it before 2016, if ever.

Yeah. Sony probably doesn't want to throw anymore money at it and probably want the team to finally move onto something new. When was the last time we actually saw it? 2010? That's nearly 4 years where a lot of progress may have been made and they didn't want to show it bc of all the backstage drama. I think it'll end up being a disappointment either way to those expecting it but at this point, its probably more important to cut their losses rather than continue to stall and lose money in the process. It'll probably be a cross gen title released on PS3 and PS4 this fall

The "team" is completely different. They started basically from scratch.

How do you know that? We don't really know what type of progress has been made bc the only updates we've had for years has been a simple "its still in development". And the team working on this game isn't completely differnet. Those heading the project have changed, but there has not been a complete turnover at Team Ico. Many have the same staff still remain

ETA: the plot thickens. I don't think I've ever seen this before. IGN has issued a formal public apology to Sony and Team ICO

By Steve ButtsLast night, I made a call to post a story about the cancellation of The Last Guardian. The source for this information was, in my opinion as IGN’s Editor in Chief, credible enough to justify running the story. While there is still a discrepancy with what our source has said, Scott Rohde’s Twitter post makes it clear that our original source was in error. The business of handling news sources involves some assumption of risk and last night my evaluation of that risk was clearly in error.

Given the responses to me on Twitter, it’s clear many of you would like to understand what happened. The first news came via IGN’s Russian team, who were traveling with a larger group of Russian journalists and the Sony representative who was the original source of the story. I double and triple checked the language and the context of the news, which, I learned, was delivered in a meeting at Sony Russia.

Concerned about the nuance, I confirmed with the Sony source, via IGN Russia, that the game was cancelled for all platforms. I reached out to Sony of America, who was unable to comment on the story. I published the story based on the strength of our single source. Soon after, Scott Rohde tweeted that the story was incorrect. Additional reports from our contact in IGN Russia did not clarify the situation, and it became increasingly clear that Rohde’s tweet was the more credible source.

Accordingly, I am issuing a retraction on our original story.

To IGN fans who have criticized the rest of the staff for this reporting, understand the decision to post this story was mine alone.

To Sony and Team ICO, who have had to address unexpected controversy on the eve of the year’s largest celebration of gaming, I apologize.

To gamers who feel misled by IGN on this point, I hope to win back your trust and have put in place additional rules to minimize the chance that these errors will occur again.

First, the burden of proof with regard to the source will be clearly outlined in any future reports. The initial story alluded to a source but gave the readers no chance to assess the trustworthiness of the source for themselves.

Second, the confirmation of facts that come from all but the most trusted of sources will require independent confirmation. This is already the standard for reporting at IGN and my failure is in not upholding that standard.

Third, with regard to headlines and social promotion of these stories, we will be much more clear in those cases where there is room for interpretation or ambiguity with regard to the facts.

IGN strives to be as accurate as possible in all its reporting and I apologize to our audience, our IGN staff, and Sony for the misrepresentation of the state of The Last Guardian. If it does appear at E3 this year, there will be a lot of happy gamers celebrating in our war room. I will be one of them.

Thanks,
Steve Butts,
Editor-in-Chief

It has been heavily implied that Santa Monica has taken over a large part of the development, and that a lot of what was there was scrapped.

"I'm never really sure how that got in the press, because as far as I'm aware we're not helping out with The Last Guardian," director of technology at Santa Monica Studio Tim Moss told Eurogamer. "The only way you can say that is the knowledge that we contribute back to the central tech groups benefits The Last Guardian. So I'm guessing someone was slightly misquoted."

I'm still holding out hope for it this year. Maybe/probably foolish, but still. At this point it will have to be a PS4 title and it makes sense that they were working on it for the PS3, hit some kind of a impassable wall with it, and had to start over using the PS4's hardware. There were reports that what they were attempting to do with the game was incredibly ambitious and hard to do. I would be shocked if it came out this year, though.

Not one word. So much for this fall. :funny:

Yeah, I am starting to believe it is dead.

Why wont Sony just say so then? I think it would be more of a headache to constantly have to address this when they could just end it

Oh man

You’ll Have To Wait Longer For The Last Guardian Says Shuhei Yoshida. June 11, 2014 . 9:00am

Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida has once again commented on the state of The Last Guardian, which was conspicuously absent from E3 this year.

Speaking with Eurogamer, Sony Computer Entertainment’s Head of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, once again commented on the state of The Last Guardian, which was conspicuously absent from E3 this year.

Earlier in the week, IGN reported that the game had been cancelled, following which Sony clarified that this was not the case.

“There were a difficult couple of days before the show—I’m sure you noticed,” Yoshida told Eurogamer. “I’m so happy it was retracted before the show happened.”

Regarding what is going on with the game, Yoshida stated: “Lots of people tweeted me they were heartbroken by that news [prior to the show]. People are going through this roller coaster of emotions, and it’s our fault for not releasing the game, yet.”

“We owe a lot to those people, but we really don’t want to release piecemeal information until we can say this is The Last Guardian—so we ask you to wait.”

Final Fantasy XV and Last Guardian.........forever MIA.

So basically another news article just like the other 40, that it still exists.

I'm just going with an Alan Wake feeling. It may happen, but I'm not going to expect it until it's out on store shelves, and I can actually buy it with my money.

Shame considering Shadow of the Colossus is one of the greatest games ever. I'd put it Top 5 even.
