If this film is as good as critics seem to say and Hemms is as good as they say, then IM2 #'s may be in the cards for Thor. Sweet

I just don't want people to get their hopes up too much about the 300M thing. If Thor does anything 200M or above domestic and 400M worldwide then guess what? You Thor fans got yourself a franchise now.

Oh, I most def agree. No one should expect 300mil, and I doubt even Marvel does. But, it might not be undoable if WOM is good and people respond to it like critics seem to be.

400M WW would mean Marvel makes a cool 100M profit in theaters off a 150M investment, to say nothing of ancillaries like DVD, TV rights, toys, etc.

True that, mate.

Even so, a 188M domestic showing would likely be enough to guarantee at least one sequel.

Those would be reasonable figures. Early tracking numbers should be available next week.

I know that with the sole exception of Spider-Man, all superhero films do better domestic than overseas. But do you guys think Thor might actually have more international appeal than domestic, ala' Spidey? I'm thinking if any would, it'd be Thor.

Judging from their Winter Season forecasts they're usually off by around 20 million, more or less.
Well then, I hope they're within 20 million on this prediction as well, as that would make the movie at the very least a modest success if not a runaway hit. Of course, I'm not opposed to it dramatically exceeding their expectations, either. :cwink:

Thor opens in the US May 6th. The next big movie after that is POTC: OST on May 20th. I highly doubt Bridesmaids or Priest will take the #1 spot in between, so we are looking at potentially 2 weeks in a row at #1, which is good sign as long as the drop off for the second weekend isn't more than 50%.

I'm going with around 60$ million during the opening weekend.

Has anybody firgured out who the guy is thats fighting with Thor in the rain is , with Hawkeye looking on , he seems to be holding his own pretty good
i almost hate to say this but ive heard someone ask if it was Luke Cage in one of the Thor reviews. im assuming its just some big black dude. lol

He is shown briefly BT not sure which number trailer now.

Love this user review up at IMDB...

Intelligent and fun comic-book popcorn epic!

Thor was much much better than I expected. I didn't know if they could pull of the balance between the Norse mythology stuff and the real world Marvel Universe. I should've known better because Marvel knows their characters and knows what we want to see. Spider-Man set a new standard for the superhero film genre back in the day. Iron Man upped the ante. Thor takes the ball and runs with it and places that bar even higher. I look forward to seeing it again and know it will do well enough to be worthy of a sequel because word of mouth is going to be great. Trust me when I say Thor REALLY IS as good as Iron Man and is most worthy to be called one of the greatest adaptations ever.

Chris Hemsworth as the Norse god Thor, and Tom Hiddleston as his villainous brother Loki show they have the acting ability and star quality to become mega-marquee names in the future. Marvel found two absolute diamonds in the rough. Both actors make a HUGE impression and are wonderful on screen. You knew Acedemy Award winners Anthony Hopkins and Natalie Portman would bring it but these relative unkowns more than hold their own on screen. I know the script is written mostly for them but they carry it in a big way. From what I've read, Hemsworth and Hiddleston were cast almost a year in advance of filming the story so, they had time to get into shape and do character research. They certain did these long-time Marvel greats proud. Intelligent comic-book popcorn epics are rare and this one is definitely a cut above the usual fare.

Critics are liking to loving it but I think WOM from regular folk is going to be even more superb.
