Us australians are TOTALLY biased with Australian actors. Thats why we all love Nicole Kidman and Sam Worthington so much.

Also, everyone keeps trying to compare it to Iron Man. I think that's a silly comparison to make, so don't go into the film with that expectation. It's a great film, and it as unique and perfect to Thor in the same way that Iron Man was unique and perfect a film to that character. That's where the similarity ends, because they are very different characters.

The only other thing is that the Earth stuff FEELS like the same universe as Iron Man, which is great. It actually feels like the Marvel universe from the comics, everything about it. I mean, even the extras and stuff look like the extras in the background of comic panels. It's really hard to describe, but you'll know what I mean when you see it.

It might not be a Nolan film, but between Thor, IM and TIH, it is genuinely like Marvel comics come to life.

The extras during the Hulk/Abomb fight were awesome. I usually don't notice things like that but they really stood out to me during that movie, the way they flowed down the street away from the fight and even the few individual ones trying to get clear before they got smashed. It really did remind me of bystanders from the comics and being live action it's easy to put yourself in the shoes of one of these people. Like how crazy it would be to be minding your own business, just buying a hot dog or something and then all hell breaks loose as these superpowered nutcases start tearing up the city.

Yeah, and in Thor (no spoilers, dw) the extras in the town are exactly like the ones in the JMS run, right down to the kinda shocked or stoic expressions. Especially JMS's cameo himself lol, that whole scene is framed exactly like one of his comics, and his expression in the end is exactly like Bill, the burger cook who falls in love with the Asgardian lass.

I'm looking forward to that scene a lot. Sounds funny and unlike some of the Superheroes: Serious Business© types around here, I enjoy teh funny.

Yeah, the humour in Thor surprised me a lot. We were all worried it would be TOO humour filled, and the humour would be forced... Well there is about twice as much humour than I thought there would be, and it's about 4 times funnier than I was expecting it. I've seen it twice now and I still laughed out loud in a lot of bits, and I don't laugh out loud that often in films (seen too much comedy).

I think it works so well because they do such a great job of defining these characters, that it isn't like 'movie slapstick' and it feels like real, genuine faux pais. Even the bits I knew about, like the coffee cup smashing, work fantastically. Seeing it for a third time later tonight btw, and i'm still feeling excited about seeing it.

Sunday morning paper gave it 4/5 stars - it's getting good reviews well beyond the fan base. Are others seeing similar ratings?

I would give it 4/5 easily too. I would say it's 3 1/2 to 4 out of 5 as far as a 'film' goes, but as far as a Marvel film goes, it's 5/5.

Although we may disagree on some things from time to time Wolvie, you know your **** when it comes to films so you giving Thor a 4/5 as far as "film" goes gets me even more excited for it.

Thanks BT. Although, it should be noted, I would strike at least 1 point, if not more off those scores for this film in 3D. It is not worth seeing in 3D for your first viewing.

Yeah, I didn't plan on seeing in in 3D for the first time, I prefer watching movies in 2D anyways.

It's a double edged sword though, because that first reveal of Asgard is simply mind blowing in 3D. Truly mindblowing. But then after it was over, I was really underwhelmed with the film. I was thinking "Where was all the drama? I didn't buy ANY of that character development or the relationships." Then I saw it again in 2D, and it was like a different movie. In 3D, you just can't connect or engage with any of the intimate moments. It's like the difference between being sucked into a story, and just having someone tell you what the story is. In the dramatic scenes, because it's so big and visual, you end up analysing the quality of the visuals, looking at little visual details, whereas in 2D you get totally pulled into the great drama and story.

Also, the fight scenes blur past you in 3D.

^ Did you have trouble finding a 2D session?

I really enjoyed it, solid acting from all involved and I thought the 3D was rather excellent. I usually have no time for it but it really was used well in this film.

It is also surprisingly hilarious, the audience in my viewing let out a few collective roars of laughter watching everything unfold. Kat Dennings' character is great comic relief while Hemsworth does a fine job of balancing the various aspects of Thor's personality, from endearing buffoon to honourable and solemn warrior.

Tom Hiddleston is a breath of fresh air as Loki, a villain yet someone you can't quite bring yourself to hate.

All in all, I think it's arguably Marvel Studio's most polished film to date, hopefully the box office will reflect this.

Back up to 94% on RT. 6.8/10; 29 positive/2 negative

If anything, some of the more recent reviews are more positive than the first batch we received. Excellent!

As far as Nolan's Batman films are concerned, I'm not a huge fan. BB is mediocre. TDK is not mediocre, it's an extremely impressive film with one great performance. But I don't personally enjoy it much, and I'm not really interested in seeing a lot of superhero films in that vein.

Nolan is excellent! But I think Thor is looking quite fine without him lol.

People...this is a thread for reviewing THOR.....if you want to discuss Batman....go to it's forum.

94% on RT .... thats UNREAL.....

SO looking forward to this, 2 weeks can't pass us buy quick enough.

Wolvie, some of us Yanks are alittle biased over Nicole too. ;)

I really enjoyed the movie.

But I thought the first act (though gorgeous to see and with Hopkins simply great) a bit confused in the editing department.

Some transitions, scene to scene, were a bit too fast, and some actors should have gotten a little bit more screentime (Rene Russo, for instance). I don't know if this is Branagh getting used to this sort of movie or the runtime constraints.

But a fine movie, nonetheless. Hemsworth was simply the perfect Thor and Hiddleston is Loki: great actor, and he totally understood the character. I couldn't imagine a better Loki. Idris Elba and the three warriors (plus Sif) equally spot on.

Nice and touching story, but sometimes a bit rushed as a movie, especially in its first part.

3/5.
