I just read this post about a fan meeting TW in France a few years ago. It was posted over at DTS and I just had to share it here. Nice story!! :)

Hi. I'm Valerie. I'm from FRANCE. I live in Amiens, north of France. and I work in Paris. Forgive me for my awful english.

I'm a lieutenant in the french Police force. It was the 14th of july 2002 in Paris, our "revolution day" just like the 4th of july in the USA, I mean celebrates, fireworks etc... Thus, that day, my boss calls me : a bomb scare at the "Trocadero", next to the "Tour Eiffel" during the famous 14th of july fireworks at the "Champs de Mars" (the garden which surrounds the "Tour Eiffel"). At the "Trocadero", some people go on the terraces to admire the fireworks. We were to make an indentity check of the people going terraces of "Trocadero" towards the "Champs de Mars" while crossing the river "La Seine". Among these people... Tom Welling and his wife. My boss explained to people the reasons of the indentity check and I checked on the indentity cards or passports. Well, Tom arrives. I recognized him immediately (I'd seen Smallville during my vacation in the USA ). But I was during duty hours, I could not ask him for an autograph or say to him that I was a huge Smallville fan. I checked on his passport (very old indentity picture) and his wife's passport. and unfortunately, that's it.

He is very tall, more beautiful in person than he is on TV. more masculine, less "teenager". and his eyes ! a piercing glance, light blue/green. I could not look him straight in the eyes. He wore jeans, a white shirt, sandals, a jeans jacket, and his wife jeans too. At that time, I didn't know that he had just married. But I understood that she was his girlfriend because they seemed very in love. Here, it was my story and... fortunately, there was no bomb.

BTW, the TW forum at DTS is freakin' HUGE now. They just changed the layout because they "outgrew" the old one. Too funny!

I love that story...

Yeah, and the TW forum is phucking huge over there now!

LOL!

:D

Kinda hard to find some things right now, but I'll get used to it. ;)

Will he still have that broad appeal? Tough to say. But I'm looking forward to finding out. :D

I can pretty much guarantee he'll definitely still appeal to this broad.

:D

sheesh, I know! I was trying to renavigate my way around there. What a surprise that the TW forum would take over every other. Kinda like a certain thread I'm fond of here. ;)

Oh hon, he'd "appeal" to me just reading from a phone book. All. Day. Long. LOL!! :D

I wonder what spurred the growth? It's not like he's been in anything other than SV recently, and Singerman is really only on the tongues of superhero geeks right now - not that he's got anything to do with that, thank goodness. But still. Could it be the proliferation of the DVDs and additional exposure from ABC Family, maybe? But that doesn't really explain the new foreign fans. I'm at a loss...

But I love it nonetheless! :)

I think ABCFamily is having a huge impact. That's a 5 day a week exposure. In this part of the world, it airs at 6pm.. Oddly enough that's the same timeslot that Highlander used to air when it was on USA network 5 days a week.. and that's when I first got hooked on it.

(Way to turn a phrase there, 'Rene!)

In Boston, it airs at 7pm (good lead-in slot for PrimeTime) and I believe ABCF airs it SIX days a week, so you may be right. I watch it every night, even though I have all of the episodes on DVD at my finger tips. A similar phenomenon happened when A&E ran repeat episodes of Northern Exposure's 110 ep show twice a day for about a year. The fan base actually *increased* even though the skein had been cancelled by CBS over two years earlier.

It'll definitely be interesting to see what happens post October. And not fer nuthin', but I'm *really* curious to see if the schitt hits the fan next summer. It's been five months - seven if you count from last August - and fans aren't letting the subject die. Hell, even the people INTERVIEWING Welling are still dancing around The Question to this day. ;)

I'm with you on this Pat...Welling is quite the phenomenon. I'd love to know if TPTB for Singerman recognize this now.

Actually, it's seven days a week. They got the strip Monday-Friday and then also play different eps on weekends, or they were. Not sure if they're still doing that.

They gotta know now, if they didn't before.

Lara, did you ever get my reply PM?
Yeah I'm trying what you suggested about the logging in. I'm going to give it a day or two then email them.

I'm just going to post to everything since I've been "off" for awhile.... I do mean that literally.

I did actually know about Smallville when it first came out. I tried really hard to get into it when i lived in Washington. I wish I had because then I would have known where they were shooting it and actually tried to visit. (I actually had a spa weekend with girlfriends in Vancouver) When my husband was deployed to Afghanistan there was a first and second season of Smallville to watch and he came back hooked. We watched off and on as we prepared for out next move.

Thank God, ABC Family loves to promote their little reruns because I had the opportunity to fall in love with Smallville through the marathon and the interviews with the cast. Tom was so professional and Michael was an extreme treat because as I've said before he shares my husband's sense of humor and yes he is an avid fan of the "Clerks" guy Silent Bob. Sorry, I'm sad I can't even remember his name post to post (AgentPat) Kevin Smith? am I right? I can't help it I fell in love with Tom in a wierd almost big sisterly or motherly way and I am agast at how they have treated him. Shame on you Brian Singer, noone cares about the unknown concept anymore just continue the story by God! What were you thinking man? I'm an avid Harry Potter fan and if they so help me try to find a new Harry Potter I am personally going to hold a revolution.
We all know what's he's going to become why torture us poor souls by giving us something not up to par? Something so substantial we must weep in our sleep???

Alright, I feel sorry for Brandon Routh, but who's to blame? The stupid casting agents and the stinking director? He could've been great. He could've been a contender.........in something else.

Flame on.........

Ugh. DTS/DFN really needs to learn that bigger isn't always better; their forums are starting to suffer from the same issue as their gallery: it takes too long to get from A to B.

Their forums are huge, as we've been saying, but James is right:

It's kinda hard to find your way around now.

I agree. Too much granualarity is a bad thing...

I agree, I lurk on there from time to time, but it gets a little cumbersome. Do you think they started the registration due to the SHH conflict with people scanning magazines? It seems wierd they wouldn't want people to just peruse the merchandise. Just another thought, maybe they are trying to make the actors or writer register before lurking just so they know what's up?

I think the registration is just so they know who's looking, although they'd love it if someone from the show was obviously looking...

Jeez, I'd probably not post some of the stuff I do over there if I knew Tom would see it.

Be kinda embarassing...

Just so you know. I guess some chick from the K-site has her own Michael site and was posting a thank you to him for sending her a gift on the site because he stops by from time to time. Don't know how true, of course, but just a heads up.

Really?

Mmmm... I had heard the prodco lurked, but I hope I haven't said anything too embarrassing.

Ooh, there was that whole "size of his hands" relating to...*ahem* other proportions of his body discussion...

Mmmm, Would that be embarrassing?

Naw.

Tom would be flattered about that!
