Hey I signed up for DTS today only made one post though. I'm at so many boards for Smallville and Superman as is. Though I think I may refuse to ever again post in the K-Site forums. I love the job Craig does with the site and the news and spoilers are great, but damn do those forums suck. Bunch of people who have ZERO comic knowledge and theyve all got the attention spans of my cat, and constantly rip the show for "screwing up" on things that they miss or dont understand. Very frustrating place to visit anymore
I'm luky I was never banned but the site stopped recognizing my IP. The only concern I have is TPTB actual keep up with that site for overall fan opinon. They probably have never heard of this one.

I posted the following over at DTS earlier. I figured folks here might be interested in the number crunching as well...

The Fog is skedded for wide release, which, depending upon who you ask, generally defines films released on 500(ish) or more screens. Now, it *could* go as high as 2500 or even 3000. Depends on how much confidence the distribs (Sony/Revolution) have and what the P&A budget is. I'm gonna take a stab and say it's probably about 1/2 the production budget, which is $18M.

As of right NOW, there are no other wide releases skedded for the Oct 14th weekend. This is GOOD!! That means there won't be any competition at the B.O.

So, what are we looking at here? Well, take Constantine as an example. It opened on 3006 screens this past weekend and averaged $11,185 per engagement. That means it raked in a cool $33.6 million dollars in just three days! If The Fog does about HALF that on its opening weekend, it will be considered a tremendous success just because it will have recouped its entire production budget in one weekend.

Aint gonna do what Constantine did, you say? Well, you're probably right. So lets look at another film within the same genre. Boogeyman (PG-13) was released on 3,052 screens on Feb 4 and had a $20M prod budget. It made $8M on Friday, $8.4M on Saturday, and $2.5M on Sunday, for a grand total that weekend of $19M. The studio - Sony/Screen Gems - must have been dancing in the streets. As of Tuesday, it had $42M in the bank, and this was *after* taking 40% declines on two subsequent weekends after release.

If The Fog pulls something out of left field (such things really cant be predicted, but every studio hopes for another My Big Fat Greek Wedding), and manages to rake in over $50M in the first three weeks of release, Tom can write his own ticket. It will be very interesting to see what happens come October. I'll be watching closely. ;)

Where did I read the release date was Oct 22? I know I read that somewhere, or was it changed. And I guess its really too early to know what films will be released the same weekend. but with such a small budget, at least there won't be insane pressure for huge B.O.

Ha, was reading the reviews for the DVD's over at Amazon.com. (Yes, I'm bored.) Anyway, came across this gem:

I love Smallville and it is my FAVOURITE SHOW. I highly recommend all the Smallville boxsets so buy them now! Living in England i haven't seen any of Season 4 yet but it looks the best yet!

To finish Tom Weling is sooooooo sexy! If only he wasn't married (and straight)! I partly watch the show just so i can see Tom Wellings gorgeous body!

I was cracking up laughing. Because it was so on point and all the other reviews are 1000 words long and very analytical. Then I check out the sig of who wrote it:
TOM WELLING IS GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!, December 17, 2004 Reviewer: James "Tom Welling Lover" (UK)

James, man, I lurve you! I am so going to make my own Amazon reviews to rival your hilarious post.

That wasn't this James. Although it might be tempting. ;)

Observe mimicry of a 12-year-old with full temporal lobotomy:

Shoot, it wasn't you?! Oh well, you've got another Tom Welling lover out there in the UK with your name. Or else someone just kind of copying you.

I'm loving reading the reviews. People take the show very seriously. Must. Get. To. Work. But. Cant. Stop. Reading.

I saw that too but it didn't sound all snarky and winky so I assumed the UK has another James TW fan ;)

Hmm. Well, an article in Variety from December 1st listed a tentative release date as the 21st. But since then, all other sites have been reporting the 14th. Here's a few:

IMDb
Box Office Mojo
Film Force

I dunno. [shrugs] The release date may have been changed because there's quite a few wide releases happening on the 21st, but none on the 14th other than TF. Yet. The original report in THR doesn't list a preem date. Most other news agencies just do a Reuters/AP and parrot the original information they receive from the trades. I checked with Variety and they don't have an info sheet set up for TF yet. But if I come across any other conflicting current information, I'll post it. :)

I'm still getting THR (never canceled that trial subscription, and they keep sending it to me even though I never paid either... he he he ) and they don't have it listed yet either, even though the project was announced in December...

They didn't have the casting notice in this past week's issue, but should hopefully in next's... Maybe it will go into more detail, if I end up getting that one, that is. I keep expecting the mags to stop coming and yet they keep on coming.

I had gotten a note from them saying my subscription would be terminated if they don't recieve a payment by 1/31/05... It's been long past that, so who knows when it will end?

Now, I'm curious just how long they'll keep sending me free magazines so I'm still not going to call them. I've been getting it for close to three months now and it was supposed to be a free 4 week trial...

I kinda liked their Oscar preview issue, interesting take on the noms.

I'll keep my fingers crossed the "magazine police" don't find you. They sometimes work in cahoots with the "matress police". :)

:D :)

I'll find out early next week whether or not they have finally caught up with me...

Thought folks would like to know that DTS is back up - and so are the TW forums. :D

Actually, they haven't caught up to me just yet!

Got the lastest issue today, and it had The Fog announcement in it.

Nothing more than was listed last week, however.

Okay, all together now... AWWWWWWWWE!!!!!

Having watched various interviews with TW, I'm convinced he'd have a hard time talking if his hands were tied behind his back. Iz too funny how much he "talks" with them. Wonder if he has any Italian ancestry? LOL

I've also noticed he has a lot of problems deciding what to do with his hands while playing Clark. He tends to hold his hands together.

One noob actor trait he needs to lose, sad to say... He's doing better with that, however, but it depends strongly on the circumstances of the scene.

Back when I was acting, I had the same problem.... :(

Hmmm... I hadn't noticed that. Interesting observation. Earlier seasons he appeared to just rest his hands at his sides or in his pockets. He does make interesting use when he's meandering through a scene though. I liked the "desk knocking" in Phoenix when Chloe was asking Clark if he had seen Lana yet. Seemed pretty natural. Oh, and he DOES hang onto that bookbag (or gym bag) for dear life too. Hee!

For all you stalkers out there....there's a little bit of info about the shooting locations for "The Fog" in this article.

Nice read. Thanks for the heads up!

Here's the text related to TF:
Veteran Los Angeles producer David Foster, who's made B.C. a second home ever since shooting McCabe & Mrs. Miller in West Vancouver in 1971, will film parts of The Fog, a remake of the 1980 John Carpenter thriller, at Cowichan Bay, Tofino and Long Beach. He chose the Vancouver Island locations because of their resemblance to Oregon, where the movie is set.

"The beaches in Oregon are white and sandy and we couldn't find one sandy beach on the mainland," says Foster. "Here [on the mainland], everything has rocks and lumber. We wanted sprawling, sweeping beaches with big waves."

Shooting outside the Lower Mainland also has its disadvantages. Big-name stars often want to be in Vancouver, not only for the amenities of restaurants and shops, but also so they can quickly get flights to Los Angeles or other U.S. destinations on weekends and other breaks.

Shooting away from cities also can cost a production more in terms of paying travel time to union crew members or, beyond commuting distance, putting up crew and cast in hotels.

Because of this, there is pressure on cast and crew to get everything right, because no one wants the expense of having to make a return trip to re-shoot scenes.

"You absolutely have to get it," says McWilliams.

At least he doesn't keep his arms crossed ALL THE TIME like a certain other TV Superman...:;)

Carpenter's remakes and movies has not been all the good lately. I think Welling should have went for a thriller/drama of sorts to push his acting and to kill off any trace of typecasting like play a villian or someone eccentric/complicated. No offense but way too many young (as in mid-late 20s) actors are hitting the cliché horror scene nowadays.

I've also seen him like play with his ring finger during a few scenes. Like he'll be talking and pinching at the area where his wedding band sits. The only reason I noticed is because I do it when I don't have my ring on. I feel nude with out it.

LOL!

True, but I wasn't really complaining, I think it's cute (big surprise  :D), but just making an observation.

John Glover loves "business" (you know, doing stuff with your hands while in a scene) and they actually talk about some business he does during Memoria on the commentary.

I think MR and Greg Beeman were making fun of JG, but it's a nice touch. People interact with their environment in real life, even while talking, so it can add a different level of depth to the performance.

I never directed for real, but did some directing in a college class and it's hard to help an actor do business realistically. I know it's hard to think of stuff when acting...

I think actors could learn a lot from JG on doing business... For example, in Sacred he was cutting fruit when Lana showed up looking for Lex.

That little detail made that moment before Lana came in more interesting. Was it scripted? Who knows, but I have a feeling it was John's idea and not the writer's. Too subtle a thing to actually describe, perhaps, but I could be wrong.

Sorry, got a little off onto a tangent there but I notice things like that...
