Exactly and he couldn't even do that. I couldn't help but laugh and think of all the times Tom was criticized for his performance in ealier seasons because in his worst day he was never as bad as what I saw in that movie.
I thought he had a few small moments either by his own acomplishment or in the airplane sequence in which he shamelessy copied Reeve from the voice, to the looks to the dialogue. But as I said, that was a scene or two.
I guess it must have been the Christ like routine scenes that made the blind followers fell in love with him...

I'm sorry, this "blind follower" fell in love with BR at the Daily Planet with all of his nerdy nerdness, thank you. :p

For the record, I first fell in love with TW in "Tempest" (S1). Before I had just really liked him.

But for me, nerdiness > sexiness. :D

You got some Serious Anger Management Issues (with any thing that has to do with Welling or smallville.) you need help. :o

You DO know I was totally joking around to lighten the mood and change the subject, right?

But hey, congrats. You've succeeded in...

Aight, lets see, where to start?

Ah! I watched the repeat of Reckoning tonight with my mom (66 years young). Right after Clark helped Martha with her pearl necklace and said, "I love you, mom," my mom rhetorically asked, "Can you see the other schmuck do that?"

Where's Matt? "I. Kid. You. Not!"

You know I sat there watching this episode (Reckoning) really soaking it in this time and all I could think was that this is what Superman is to me.

Now, I haven't seen the movie, but I have been reading the comments and I am absolutely flabbergasted by the fact that no one seems to question why the heck Superman had only a small bit of dialogue. Could it be perhaps that when they edited that most of his work was crap? Maybe that's why it may come off as poorly edited. Someone said that an actor is only as good as his director and I'm here to tell you as a former voice teacher that you can't teach a pig to sing no matter how hard you try.

I love watching the emotions wash over TW's face. When he feels anguish or joy it's all in the eyes. Kind of hard to see that through colored lenses don't cha think?

Anyway, haven't seen the movie so can't make any judgement per say, but I do know what I want to see in a Superman and it's someone who makes my heart go thump thump and TW does that very nicely indeed.

After reading through a slew of threads where people tear down TW's acting (and now BR's acting) with very little overlap, with very few people sticking up to say "They're both fine actors in their own ways," I'm now starting to wonder why it is people see these two actors potemically. Is it that the people that love TW respond to a different register of acting that make other people (who like or love BR) think TW's acting is wooden and/or unvaried?

I really don't know what it is--I see both men as fine actors, but I realize they both appeal to different segments of people. Except for little ole freakish me in the middle. :O

Edit: Thinking of the "some actors just don't appeal to people" theory, I just remembered that my father watched STM once and never enjoyed it, and refused to see SR with me in the theater. His reason? He has and always will til the end of the time, hated Marlon Brando. I asked him why. "Because Brando has only ever played one character: himself." I should mention at this point that Jack Nicholson is one of his favorite actors. :p

...:( I think Singer chose to take the route of the strong, silent type for Superman. I didn't mind that Routh's Superman didn't have many lines. In fact, I didn't even notice that he didn't say much in the movie. It simply wasn't a concern.

I actually see some Smallville sensibilities coming to play in SR. When watching Smallville versus something, say, like Lois & Clark, the one thing that I begin to notice is the lack of "talky" dialogue in Smallville. Instead, SV focuses more on close-ups, shots of the eyes and face to show reactions, and slow, more emotionally delivered dialogue--one of the reasons Smaville has some short scripts (about 10 pages under the "average" television script, if I remember my figures right). I see some of this sensibility spill over into SR, and I like it just fine. :)

Hah! Welcome to my world. :) Well.. not about TW and BR, but other fannish issues.

I saw a movie tonight. I'm too lazy to write up a review right now though, probably tomorrow.

I look forward to your review, though I have the strong suspicion I will exist in this little patch of fan-ground alone. :)

I was watching Oracle last night and that scene with Glover and Schneider was really good I thought Tom played it very well. Also in Mercy when John calls him son and he says "Jonathan Kent was my father" and John says he's not trying to take his place and Tom says "You couldn't." I really loved Tom's expression and tone of voice.

Yes.

Tom's really been at the top of his game in Season 5. I think he's done some of his best work in Reckoning onward (with maybe one bump in Hypnotic).

I think we should let him slide on Hypnotic...

He was very sick during the filming of Cyborg, I'm thinking he was off his game still for Hypnotic (the next episode).

Poor baby...

Aww, poor Tom. I hadn't heard that...:(

I don't think his acting was horrible or anything in Hypnotic. It was uneven, but in the end--simply a decent performance among many stellar ones. Everyone's got off-days. Unless your Ben Browder or Michael T. Weiss. But they're just uncanny.

Yeah, last winter the director (Glenn Winter, also a dp for the show) said in an interview that Tom got very sick. They had to delay shooting four days right in the middle of the episode to let Tom get better.

He said that was the first time they'd ever had to delay a shoot because of Tom getting sick... He hadn't missed a single day for being sick ever before that.

I think that's amazing... Tom works hellish hours and works almost every day of the shoot, it's great that it hasn't taken a toll on his health.

He must take incredible care of himself, and boy does he look like he does, so that's probably not surprising. ;) :D

Yes, it's amazing Tom didn't miss a single day of work for four years! The SV people were very lucky and I'm so glad Tom is in good health!

I agree he looks like he takes care of himself, fortunately. I'm happy he does!

Yeah...wow...no kidding, I'm sick every two months. :O

Uncanny is that I think both of those guys are great too!
We both have great taste in men apparently. ;)

Hehehe, I have to agree 100% with your statement Serene. :D:up:

I haven't seen Hypnotic yet (given his work load I'm surprised he didn't get sick more often) but I didn't notice anything on Cyborg, I thought he was great in most of the episode and especially the scene in which Victor and his girlfriend hug after knowing about his powers and Tom and Kirsten look at each other moved was another great scene. Thus moving us and like Pat said that's what happens when you KNOW and CARE about the characters.

You both do realize it's his own portrayal as Superman.

Partially maybe. But he wasn't picked because of his ability to do his own thing and he would be the first one to tell you he was picked because he resembles Chris in some angles.

Well, McG and Ratner must have been thinking the same way as Singer....seeing as how they had him as a finalist as well.

Rattner wanted Tom in his movie, only after he had to pass due to filming conflicting with SV's schedule he started to see other actors. And McG, the less said about him the best... ;0)
