I really hope that Bay is telling the truth, the dorkiness especially was part of the problem when it was overload on that part for the second movie. But it's good that he admit that the ROTF has flaws, I'm not getting my hopes high yet but I like the direction this movie is heading.

People obviously loved the dorky comedy and I want to see more sexual humor! It'll be much more serious? Haha! This is no Hurt Locker or anything.

I was being facetious. But Bay would totally do that.
I mean come on! Transformers is a joke and people only watch it for the explosions and boobs. Do you really think the average viewer gives a damn about the Autocons or the Deceptabots?

Most moves make us care about the characters.
Transformers just uses them as plot devices or the butt of jokes like Jetfire and the Twins.
Optimus and Megatron are just there to spout Shesperean dialogue while Sam's mother run's around tackling the football coach.

I agree that there is a direction the films could take that would be strong genre sci-fi, but people need to stop acting like the producers of this movie failed at trying to do that. It's all about execution, Marvin. Just because you can make it light hearted doesn't automatically exempt it from 'quality control'.

I think many people can agree that the first film was fine; it struck a decent balance between drama, action, and comedy. But the second one was excessive to the point where it was obnoxious.

The movies are about giant transforming robots. Humping and farting does not make sense in this movie's context.

Please don't go off on a tangent about how much Megan sucks as an actress (which she does), but I'm just talking about her character. I really hope they do explain what happened to her.

I see what you people are saying, in a way I agree, but I aslo see the other side and that is that who are we to decide if one direction is better than another when it comes to the success of a film. Would BEVERLY HILLS COP be a "better" film if it was treated more like HEAT? Would TROPIC THUNDER be a better "film" if it were PLATOON. Sure there is an artistic and critical arugment to be made that all film needs to handle tone a certain way for, but the deciding factor is that films are made for the general public. The same public that eats mcDonalds when they could find french cuisine for the same price if they looked hard enough...I digress

Beast Wars. (Arguably) The best incarnation of the fmaterial to date. It elevated the material and constantly engaged us with a twisty and tremendous ongoing plots. However the producers of the show never missed an opportunity to inject the show with tonal range. We had the character deaths, yes even optimus died and came back to life within a matter of days, and then we had this cilp.

Now, as annoying as bay's fart jokes are, If he actually had a conflict resolved by way of passing gas, there would probably be mass suicides on the nerd front. Bays films have plenty of tonal range (which is why most of them make as much money as they do). Transformers has it's dark moments and it's very light ones. Ironman has plenty of sexual and potty moments and the audience laugh it up, however I'm sure the augument could me made that the humor works against the tone and drama.

You ask why include the jokes at all? The simple answer, look to the souce material. (never thought I'd include that in a bay defense) The series also often had the female characters using the charms and sexual inuendos to achieve their goals and I'm sure there were a few cheap shots to characters groins here and there...but robots having human genetialia along with their human faces is a long stretch i'm sure.

Right, despite still being ashamed that a long time TF fan like myself didnt know who Alpha Trion was, I have just read up on him, and his role in this movie now has me mightily intrigued, if it is indeed Alpha Trion.

I still do think it being Sentinel Prime is a good shout.

That has always made me laugh, the Iron Man movies have plenty of sexual jokes an inneuendo's regarding sex and sexual acts yet people praise the humour in them, TF movies do the same and get slated cos its Bay.
