Revenge of the Fallen The official Transformers:Revenge Of The Fallen movie critics review thread

So Bay made another loud, dumb and racist movie? What a shocker!

Orci and Kurtzman were the worse thing about Star Trek. Abrams and the actors saved that flick so I'm not surprised to hear that their script was a complete waste of time.

The critics opinions didn't matter with the first "film" and it won't matter with this one. It's going to be a huge smash.

not sure what's so "racist" about these movies

Me either. The stuff with Anthony Anderson certainly wasn't racist as much as it was silly, and while some of the soldiers in TRANSFORMERS were cliches (gosh, a cliche soldier character?), I don't see where that's coming from. Even something like "The Twins" doesn't strike me as racist. I'm sorry, that's pandering to a point, but it's also the kind of attitude (I have not seen the movie yet, so I'm basing this on what I've heard about them) that is seen in real life every so often. Sans the...you know, transforming robot angle.

Also, I keep seeing people complain about the degree and the amount of action. That strikes me as absurd. A lot of the critics also keep saying things like "Now, I don't like Transformers", and then whine about the pointlessness of various "machines", which I imagine are Energon cubes, the Matrix of Leadership, etc.

One of the reviews said the action is so intense and so much that it left him numb.

Oh, I hope so.

Oh, I hope so.

Be careful what you wish for.

By the end of the film you've seen so much **** blow up that you just stop caring. Its like sitting through the end of a porn film 20 minutes after bustin your nut.

I love when people say that there is no racism ever in movies or in real life.

Yeah, I keep hearing this.

Caring about what, exactly?

Seeing giant robots beating on each other? That would speak to a lack of interest in the idea itself more than a poor execution of it.

While there are certainly some types of tension and action that requires a semblance of story to work, giant robots beating the crap out of each other is not one of them. If there's anything at stake, even on a basic good VS evil level, I suspect I'll still care.

Caring about what, exactly?

The movie.

None of the final battle lives up to the standered set by the Prime/Megs/Starscream/Helicopterwholookslikeblackout battle.

By the end it's just a lot of things blowing up and people shouting.

the race thing confuses me to a point

oh wow the robot cast is pretty much all white characters as far as I can tell, with optimus looking like the robot version of Peter Cullen sans the cowboy hat

there is no way to actually have the a non all white robot cast unless you infuse a character with cultural characteristics

I mean if I told you both Jazz and Iron hide were "black" you'd no doubt be surprised, for Iron hide doesn't exactly project "brotha" now does he...well then again he is a black truck...

if anything kudos to the film for still having a touch of multi culture in it's heroes when it didn't have to
(of course every film has this, except it's easier to just hire a black actor ala star trek, giJOE)

on the flip side

what actually makes you people think Jazz is black, I mean is it stated anywhere outside of your own closed minded face to personality association with what media tells you african americans sound and talk like

if anything it's open to interpretation and you drew your own conclusions, perhaps it says something about you more than it does the producers of these films

more to the point, where does it actually say Jazz is black?
maybe he's a ******

anyways
last I heard the twins were more like hill billys with sponge bob voice actors

The Transformers are explained in the first movie and the comic tie ins as having acquired Earth personalities through the world wide web that approximate their Cybertronian personalities. It just doesn't bother me that much. It's their English/Earth interpretation of who they are.

Good lord, Jazz in the original series is just a 1980's version of the black hip hop stereotype that he was in TRANSFORMERS. I don't want a bunch of robots who just sound white. Heck, I'd like to hear some other races and ethnicities represented as well, not just American ones.

Well, they did give Wheelie a James Cagney-like accent.

Theres only racism if people are too sensitive.

Sometimes, racist jokes work. White jokes, black jokes, hispanic jokes, chinese, japanese jokes...

People need to stop being so PC all the time. OH MY NOES! A ROBOT IS TALKIN LIEK A BLACK MAN! OH HEAVENS!

Ugh. I hate hate hate when people throw the race card at everything.

Unless Prime goes up to the camera and says "**** you black people, I hate your race!" Then says the N word a bunch of times...then i'll believe its racist.

Transformers isn't good or bad. Its just Transformers.

HAHA...people think this movie is racist. They don't say anything racist so why do some of you assume their color in comparison to humans? That would mean that you are racist for thinking that is how certain ethnic groups speak when you call this film racist.

Yikes. What ignorance and insensitivity doth rear it's vile head.

I would never have expected such slanted worldviews from fans of Michael Bay's Transformers... :woot:

This film was awesome I had a good time watching it, the only thing I hated was the human characters Sam and his whole story. I say for Transformers 3 give the humans a more minor role and bring on more robot on robot action............oh and to the people saying this film is racist your all idiots.

Guys, need I remind you that this is not the thread for personal reviews. This is the thread for reviews from film critics.

Try to imagine you’re at the best theme park in the world. Now try to imagine that there is a roller coaster which is so colossally huge that the track wraps all the way around the entire rest of the park (and it’s a very big one so the ride is going to last two and a half hours). Now not only does the track go all the way around the park but it dips and dives and rises and tunnels through all the other, lesser, rides as well. You’re waiting in line and you can see the track ahead of you. You’re excited; you’re going to get the all the thrills of a hundred smaller scale rides in one. You finally get strapped into your seat on the coaster and brace yourself for the most awesome ride of your life.

Then the ride starts and something goes horribly wrong. It travels so fast that not only can you not actually focus your eyes on the spectacle around you but your seat starts to vibrate and shake frenetically, making it impossible to see anything. To top all of that, every other seat on the ride is occupied by loud, obnoxious jerks who are having a ‘who can be the most annoying’ competition. Eventually it becomes such hard work trying to use your eyes that you feel the need to just close them and endure the noise around you until the ride finally stops and you stumble out of your seat. You feel drained, ripped off and wondering how it all went so wrong.

That’s what ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’ is. A roller coaster that’s so pre-occupied with being fast and throwing stuff at you that it forgets to be entertaining, coherent or still enough to let you drink in the eye candy you’re being served. I gave up trying to enjoy it very early on because the film wouldn’t let me.

Cont.

Expect alot more reviews like that this time around. I feel WOM won't be as strong among some general audiences as it was TF1.
