The Official Vertigo Thread

anybody here into sandman mystery theatre. underrated vertigo stuff

Seasons of Mist was the only Sandman story I ever read... and I really enjoyed it so I don't know why I never purchased any others. I think perhaps, looking back, that it unnerved me. :cwink:

Thought this was worth posting here, seeing most of the characters were recently taken from Vertigo.

"Voodoo," "Resurrection Man" Join DC's Dark Side

DC Comics ongoing breakdown of its 52 new #1 issues set to launch in September got a turn for the weird today with a string of series dedicated to the darker corners of the DCU.
Entertainment Weekly's Shelf Life blog had the news that leading off the latest pack of comics coming in the wake of the current "Flashpoint" event would be a new "Swamp Thing" series by Scott Snyder (the cover shown was drawn by Yanick Paquette).
Snyder's pal and current DC scribe Jeff Lemire will carry over some version of the characters from his incoming "Flashpoint" tie-in series to the new DCU as he launches "Frankenstein, Agent of SHADE" inspired by Grant Morrison's "Seven Soldiers of Victory" character. Lemire will also be at the helm of another likely Morrison indebted series as "Animal Man" returns to monthly comics. Artists on the series were not mentioned.
Rounding out the spooky corners of the relaunch are well-known UK talents Peter Milligan and Paul Cornell. Milligan takes on "Justice League Dark" which features a team of sorcery-based heroes Constantine, Deadman, Shade the Changing Man and Madame Xanadu – the first of whom gets work under the writer's pen in a much different form in Vertigo's "Hellblazer." Cornell's new comic – "Demon Knights" – transplants the superteam concept to medieval times, although more creators or cast members were not mentioned.
For more on these comics, see EW's Shelf Life blog, and stay tuned to CBR for more from DC Comics in the days ahead.
UPDATED:
Cover art for "Justice League Dark," "Frankenstein" and Demon Knights"
DC has announced more titles from this dark side of their universe, including the return of Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning on a new "Resurrection Man" series, Ron Marz returning to the DCU with Wildstorm's Wildcat' "Voodoo" and more.

Priscilla Kitaen has just found out she’s a monster. A half-alien hybrid, the woman known as Voodoo must confront the secrets of her past to make sense of the nightmare her life has suddenly become. VOODOO #1 will be written by Ron Marz with art by Sami Basri.

A cult favorite character returns in a new series written by his classic creative team of Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning. Joining them is JUSTICE LEAGUE: GENERATION LOST artist Fernando Dagnino. RESURRECTION MAN #1 is the story of a hero who wakes up with new powers each time he’s killed.

Vampires threaten to bring ruin to the DC Universe in I, VAMPIRE #1 by rising star Josh Fialkov and artist Andrea Sorrentino. Tortured by his centuries-old love for the Queen of the Damnned, Andrew Bennett must save humanity from the violent uprising of his fellow vampires, even if it means exterminating his own kind.

Definately giving Frankenstein and Demon Kinghts a go.

I was actually thinking I, Vampire does sound like something you'd see under the Vertigo banner. I'm pretty interested in all of those titles to some degree or another. Several of them are must buys.

Why don't they have those books Vertigo? Being in the main DCU line will just see them cancelled after a year. Like Xombi.

Xombi's not canceled yet. Not yet :(

DC is actually a lot better for keeping titles going for longer than they would, so who knows, they may get two years or so.

Yea they seem a bit more leniant than Marvel. But still, Xombi's cancellation is inevitable at this point. Which is a shame. If it was at Vertigo it would most probably keep going.

The one thing about Dan Didio which I think everyone can agree is cool of him, is he's actually kept comics running despite their low sales numbers. By all rights, Jonah Hex should've been cancelled years ago, and he still hasn't let it happen.

Yeah, that has been a pretty good trait of DC in recent years. Keeping stuff like Blue Beetle and Manhunter on the slate well past expiration is admirable.

I think REBELS went pretty far despite it's sales as well.

In any case, has DC said anything about what they're doing with the Vertigo books? Obviously, they're not relaunching them, but are they going to go day of release digital as well?

They only mentioned the main publishing arm, but I assume they'll probably extend that to Vertigo, too. I don't know why they wouldn't, really.

Here's DC solicitations for September, along with all that Vertigo goodness. One new book did catch my attention, though.

MARZI TP
Written by MARZENA SOWA
Art and cover by SYLVAIN SAVOIA
“I am Marzi, born in 1979, ten years before the end of communism in Poland. My father works at a factory, my mother at a dairy. Social problems are at their height. Empty stores are our daily bread. I’m scared of spiders, and the world of adults doesn’t seem like a walk in the park.”
Told from a young girl’s perspective, Marzena Sowa’s memoir of a childhood shaped by politics feels remarkably fresh and immediate. Structured as a series of vignettes that build on one another, MARZI is a compelling and powerful coming-of-age story that portrays the harsh realities of life behind the Iron Curtain while maintaining the everyday wonders and curiosity of childhood.
With open and engaging art by Sylvain Savoia, MARZI is a moving and resonant story of an ordinary girl in turbulent, changing times.
On sale OCTOBER 19 • 256 pg, FC, 7.0625”x 10.25” with French flaps, $17.99 US

I'll say I'll pick it up but I'm very behind on Vertigo's graphic novels.

Sounds interesting.

so I'm jumping on Hellblazer just now, i tracked back the current arc to start at #277 so that I did.
however, they talk about Constantine abusing his niece, when exactly does that whole thing occur? What issue should I start with to really get whats going on now?

Does Goyer ever sleep? Seems to have his hands in everything.

Well, this may or may not really mean anything, but I just got an e-mail from Amazon saying the Flex Mentallo HC release has been pushed back to February 2012.

I've already been waiting years already so a few more months won't be that bad. I wonder if they're still working on some legal issues.

Earlier this week I picked up a bunch of back issues for American Vampire (issues 1-14 to be precise but I've only read through #11 as of this writing) and I just wanted to say holy **** what a great comic. I've really enjoyed Snyder's run on Detective Comics so I thought I'd give this series a whirl. Definitely glad I did and now I'm adding this to my list titles. Awesome stuff

Nothing major but some small details on Spaceman.

Predator on CBR said:
Azzarello was on WordBalloon recently, and he shared a few details about Spaceman.

1. It's a nine issue maxi-series to start out.
2. Once the nine issues is done, Azzarello and Risso will do a different project. If all goes well, they'll then return to Spaceman.
3. The first issue should be out this fall, after the dust settle from September.

Can't wait. I'll buy anything with Risso's name on it.
