The Avengers The Official Wasp, Ant-Man & Giant Man Casting Thread

I know we havent even SEEN the movie yet but this question is nagging me...

Question:

Does Hank have a place in this movie universe as Giantman/antman/yellowjacket? I mean i know its crazy to ask, but is a "giant" man believeable on screen?

Of course a giant man would be believable on screen. Why are so many people prejudiced against giants....? :csad:

Incidentally, here's your Janet and Hank right here....no need to look any further for casting:

Are people really still whining about the lack of Ant-Man and Wasp in this film?

You are getting a film that features Hulk, Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man who will all be fully fleshed out and realized in their own solo films leading up to this mega event film. On top of that the above mentioned 4 A List heroes are being backed up by Hawkeye, Black Widow, Nick Fury, and the rest of S.H.I.E.L.D. Oh...and did I mention that they will be fighting Loki and invading army of Skrulls?

And yet some people are still looking for MORE?

Not more, less. Hank and Jan deserve a spot in a debut Avengers movie way before Hawkeye, Black Widow, and most certainly Nick Fury. If for no other reason, then by virtue of their status as two of the team's founding members.

and who bring more to the team than...a guy who shoots arrows and a girl with kung fu.....seriously when you are facing down an alien invasion and you have two slots to fill on your team who do you grab...Giant Man and Wasp or Hawkeye and Black Widow???

Is a Norse God or gamma irridiated monster? :yay:

Hank and Jan, by far!

Here's a great issue to read for anyone who thinks Hank isnt effective in combat:

Avengers161-.jpg

He, while in his Ant-Man suit, pretty much mops up the floor with the rest of the team while being mind controlled by Ultron..., and even the Vision calculates that they are ablout to lose, when Wasp intervenes and catches Hank off guard (he wasnt planning on an attack from his wife). I'd like to see Hawkeye AND the Widow try to be HALF as effective. :word:

Jason Bateman and Kristen Bell sounds good. Don't like the age difference.

You need to establish the realness and effectiveness of the growth in a solo movie, or else it'll just come off silly like gulliver's travel.

It's not about what characters deserve all the time, sometimes it's what the movie deserves. The strength of the Avengers movie is that all the groundwork has been laid and we can get into the meat of the story and action almost immediately. To derail the story of the Avengers with an Ant-Man origin story would make the movie much less well constructed, and much less appealing.

Personally, I'll take the the world's best military and intelligence operatives rather than some civilian scientists with a size changing trick. Especially if getting big or small isn't an obvious solution to the problem.

If you spend two hours making the believable, yes.

If you don't, no.

I haven't read the issue, but the cover is highly contrived. Ants vs Vision? The fact that they're mind controlled is comics code for 'not at their best.' I'd love to hear how he took down Thor, Iron Man and Hulk, though.

Hawkeye and Black Widow have been shown, in recent comics, to take down superstrong enemies through their espionage and precision. Sneak attacks and hitting weak points basically, which is a lot more believable than ants taking down people who can catch missiles out of the air.

But the real reason they're in the film, is because they don't require set up. They're just government agents with some cool gadgets, and they don't derail the film by demanding that it serve them.

A 'size changing trick?'
I don't think you understand the full implications of shrinking to microscopic size or growing to 60 feet.

The shrinking part makes Wasp and Ant-Man infinitely more effective as spies than Hawkeye, Black Widow, Nick Fury, or even James Frickin' Bond.....when you can in essence become invisible, miniaturize, and get inside enemy machinery or even inside enemy hearts and minds --- literally --- then you're pretty much the ULTIMATE spy.

And Giant-Man blowing up to 60 feet tall....strength levels equal to the Hulk...stomping bad guys like ants....tromping through cities like Godzilla versus freakin' Megalon....? Who *wouldn't* want that kind of power? I know Hank is one of the most underrated heroes in Marvel, but when you think about it, he's a helluva lot more effective tank than Ben Grimm or Luke Cage or about anyone else who isn't green and irradiated.

I feel like the Pym's and Edward Norton gripes/complaints will follow The Avengers movie up to and including the release.....oh dear...what to do...

i vote autumn reeser.
she has this bubbly semi flirty girly but strong personality that could match wasp.
watch her in no ordinary family, hard to explain.
also,
she looks great with short hair too.

Well, in a realistic take, that wouldn't outweigh being a world class spy. It's nice to be able to shrink down, but if you don't even know what you're looking for... you come back with no useful information. Now it's true, they could 'Home Alone' it, where their homemade ingenuity outsmarts professional killers, and many movies do that, but I'm not a big fan of that.

Giant Man is a great tank, no doubt. But with Thor and Hulk around... is that what we need *more* of? And then you add the fact that the audience associates a giant man with comedies and bad CGI, it's not a very promising thing to introduce in the middle of a team up movie.

Which reminds me, again, regardless of how great it may be to have him around if were putting together a video game roster, if we're putting together a movie story, he's unnecessary redundant weight, weight that can make the movie suck as fast as Venom did to SM3.

He needs his own movie so he and Jan can be in Avengers 2, imho.

I think everybody needs to reconcile the fact that Ant-Man and Wasp are not going to be founding members of the Avengers in this universe. It's unfortunate that such a large part of the Avengers origin isn't going to make the translation to film, but judging from the quality of everything we've seen in the past 3 years up to now, I don't think anything is going to suffer for it.

Let's not forget that we have Edgar Wright, an accomplished and fantastic screenwriter and director, helming an Ant-Man film that we will be seeing in theaters in just a few years. Ant-Man and Wasp will soon be starring in what is bound to be an exceptional movie and will undoubtedly be fully integrated into an Avengers sequel.

That all sound pretty damn good, frankly.

Personally, considering all of that, I'm not too worried about the Pyms. I'm actually more worried about Marvel forgetting about something they've already made... The Incredible Hulk. Every established solo movie hero had backgrounds made up of scenes and characters from their previous films in the Avengers posters released this past weekend... EXCEPT FOR HULK! I'm really worried that they're trying to drop this great film their continuity entirely.

I think there is a good chance that Marvel may be leading to an Avengers sequel with Ultron being the villian. It seems likely that Edgar Wright's. Antman will filter into the Avengers sequel. So if that happens we will probably not only get Antman and Wasp, but with the recent showing of Hammond I believe we could get Ultron and Vision as well. As I feel the easter eggs are sometimes there for more then just eye candy but instead sometimes to plant the seed. In any case that is what I think might happen.

My prediction/wishlist:

2012 - Avengers (confirmed)
2013 - Iron Man 3, Thor 2 (confirmed)
2014 - Captain America 2, Ant-Man (prediction)
2015 - Avengers 2

Edit: And people who don't like Ant-Man or aren't familiar with how bas ass he is AND don't feel like picking up a comic book...perhaps you should check out a few episodes of Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. It's available on NetFlix instant queue.

I'd defiantly want to at least have a cameo of Hank and Janet in the film just to pay homage to the first issue of the original comic .

I'm still hoping for a cameo from Hank and Jan and there really is still time to get it in. Edgar Wright should be close to finishing the script, which should allow for enough time to cast both part either during regular filming or reshoots. I'm just looking for a quick scene with Hank and Jan working on what could be an Ultron head.

I think a cameo like that could definitely work (showing them as scientists rather then superheroes), but from what we have heard so far it does not sound like they are in it, therefore the hope now mostly seems to lie with them in the sequel.

If not an in-movie cameo, I wonder if we could get an Ant-Man tease as a post-credit scene for Avengers. They usually shoot those pretty late in the filming, and typically by the director that's shooting the upcoming movie. Wright and Marvel have more than enough time to make that happen.

I think Simon Baker would be great as Pym.

I hope Avengers has a post-credit tease which shows that Fury has a bunch more prospects lined up for future rosters, as more supers come out of the woodwork...and have it a fangasm kind of thing that shows SHIELD rosters for T'challa, Hank and Janet Pym, Simon Williams, Wanda and Pietro Maximoff, Carol Danvers, Sam Wilson, Greer Grant, Jennifer Walters, Bobbi Morse, John Walker, Delroy Garrett, Jack Hart, Scott Lang, Luke Cage, Maya Lopez, Dr. Stephen Strange, etc.

so only a spy knows what they are looking for???? This is the dumbest thing I have heard of.
Cap: "Antman we need you to sneak into the base and collect data for us."
Antman: "On it"
2 hours later Antman comes out
Antman:"What was I supposed to look for?"
Sure a scientist whose job is to observe and interpret things would never make a good spy

So what you are saying is that it would be groundbreaking and new to have a giant superhero....im sure we could all think of something that was looked at as silly that when taken seriously became a huge hit.

As much as I love Hawkeye and Blackwidow...on this team they dont bring anything to the table that any of the other members can.
Hawkeye shoots arrows...Cap throws a shield that returns to his hands, Thor throws a hammer that returns to his hands
Black widow espionage and martial arts....I'd say Bruce has the advantage on espionage since he avoided both Shield and Army Intelligence for several years....which are you gonna notice first....the hot red head or the unremarkable guy

Agreed, i'm not a reader of Ant-Man, all i know is from wikipedia and The Ultimates but his movie is the one i'm most looking forward after the avengers, why? Because of the director and because his ideas can make one of the best comic book movies ever.
But i would say put Avengers on 2016 or later so that they can make movies with other characters we didn't see yet
