The Dark Knight Rises The Official "What Do YOU Want in the Sequel?" Thread

The reason that Gotham seemed a brighter place in TDK than in BB was so that The Joker's one-man mission to bring the place to its knees would actually mean something. There is no kudos to be gained from breaking a broken city.

I gotta say that seems like a stretch. Seems like it was just more Chicago that the first one.

Why would they "clean up" our vision of the city, then? It can hardly be budgetary constraints, so one must suppose that it was a creative decision.

You are right in a sense. They were very much stage based in BB. Granted it was a huge airplane hangar, but never the less most of it was inside. Nolan used more external Chicago stuff in TDK. There was no Narrows, no Arkham.

Arkham was a building in London, though, rather than a set. It could have been used if needed. I think that he wanted a different feel for TDK, for whatever reason.

I think it goes back to using practical effects considering all of the Narrows was CG, and the fact that IMAX was being used for all the helicopter shots. TDK also just looks shiny b/c of the blue hue used over the brownish/orange in BB.

I want Nolan to go back and look at the comics so that he can convince himself that Batman is not real and that he should make BB3 more like a horror/noir type of film as with BB and less of a COP/Heist movie that we got in TDK....

More Hitchcock less Coppola...

TDK may have made 1 billion but it lost some of the Batman spirit...
It should NEVER be about the money and only about sending a message....

A gritter version of Robin called Nightwing based on Tim Drake's Robin....

Since Nolan likes terrorists... Posion Ivy is perfect... she is an eco-terrorist...
Killer Croc is also realistic since there is an ACTUAL tropical disease that can cause the skin to atrophy and make it scaly... like a crocodile...

Truth is stranger than fiction...

Also, I hope Bale doesn't moan if we do get to see Robin in the new-age Batman movies.
He sounds like a kid when he said, "If they out Robin... I'm going to tie myself to the chair at home and never come to work"

This is a very, very rough draft of what my GOTHAM CITY (Batman III) would be, still many incomplete ideas but hope to complete it soon. If you say it's incomplete and incoherent I will agree with you because it's the truth.
The main villains would be Black Mask (Josh Brolin) and the Riddler (Casey Affleck), being Catwoman (Marion Cotillard/Rachel Weisz) a supporting character, and a villain at the same time.
I want the Riddler in this film so much, but sincerely I don't have any idea of how he could be portrayed without being identical to the Joker u-u. Black Mask would be the new mob boss/freak. He declares war to Batman and Catwoman after finding both inside his vault. To get them he searches for the help of the Edward Nygma, a hacker (?) who gets information from almost every people in Gotham (being Batman and the Joker the only ones impossible to know about).
The main plot would also mean Batman being hunted by the GCPD. Operating from the shadows and getting information in the underworld using his detective habilities to the fullest. I also wanna see Matches Malone in the movie. The Catwoman, a cat burglar, commits the atrocity of stealing from Black Mask, getting his instant hate and recieving menaces from him and his men.
I would like to see again Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle's relationship on the screen. As complicated as in the comic books is. For those who say Bruce wouldn't be interested in love 'cos of Rachel's death, I think that wouldn't be a problem for him to redo his life.
At first maybe Bruce could be dating someone, Julie Madison, his feelings for her would be none, he would just date her in Alfred's advice. At Rachel's grave, he meets Selina, who is visiting her mother's grave. They talk but she disappears when Bruce distracts. They meet again at a charity party. And start up as friends, but as the movie reaches its climax they kiss and make love, Bruce realizes she might be the girl for her. At one point, when Batman and Catwoman have to team up to take Black Mask she gets caught by the police, Batman can't do anything, and he lets the cops take her, Montoya Takes off the Cat's mask and Batman sees she's Selina. After making up his mind he goes to Gordon's unit and frees Selina, realizing he loves her and needs her help. She's indignated, and at first she doesn't want to go with him thinking she can trust him anymore, but Batman reveals her his secret identity in exchange of leaving with him.
When they get to Black Mask and the Riddler, both have put a bomb in every important estrategical places of the city leaving Batman to find them, he finds and deactivates all, except one that, in one of the Riddler's notes says it will make the whole city go absolutely out of their minds. He gets the detonator from Black Mask hands and gives it to Gordon. But The Riddler and BM escape by shooting Catwoman in her leg.
Roman and Nygma capture Holly Robinson (Evan Rachel Wood maybe) and Leslie Thompkins (Sigourney Weaver who also serves as another supporting character in the movie) who have dicovered they both are important people to Selina Kyle.BM tortures Holly to death, Leslie gets saved by Batman and Catwoman but Holly dies. Catwoman full of rage takes a gun and shots Black Mask in the head, escaping in front of Batman's eyes. He fights against the Riddler, and at the end he sends him to Arkham.
He recieves a message from Gordon, they meet at Gotham Central, where Gordon hides the New batsygnal. He tells Batman he has gained the city's trust again by saving them from the menace of Black Mask. He finds Selina at her apartment. Standing at her balcony looking at the City. He tells her what she did to Black Mask wasn't a good thing, but sometimes the way to battle crime is comitting crime itself. They kiss as the Dawn rises over Gotham City and the batsignal shines on the sky.

EPIC END

CREDITS ROLL =D

Well, if we look at the state of things at the end of TDK...I think the key word is 'disarray'....on all fronts, and the worst it's ever been. Joker's locked up, so what had briefly become a totalitarian underworld crime element, with no more mob bosses left after Joker 'cleaned house', has gotten its head cut off......no order or concept of allegiance whatsoever. The city's beacon of hope/justice is extinguished now that Dent's dead. The new commissioner's trying to put everything on his own shoulders, but now uncovers just how deep the corruption went, and even some of his own task force from the last story were in collusion with the Joker. Then there's Batman...who took enough of a PR hit with the Joker killings, now he's wanted for the murder of the city's martyr...and that's even more strain on Gordon who has to keep the truth from his own people. Basically, things have really gone to sh#t.

So in terms of villains...again, over the last two films, the villains have represented an overall movement/sociological element....not just themselves with their henchmen. With the state of things as described above, it might make most sense if things have degenerated into pure street-justice...pockets of gangs, but relatively disorganized and open war on the streets with no regard to civilian casualties and collateral damage. Might be a good place to incorporate something on the order of the Mutant Gang from Miller's Dark Knight Returns, with Batman realizing that he has to somehow appeal to a group of outlaws by defeating their leader, as opposed to his former philosophy of just punishing them all. Almost a sort of twisted political move by him, since he's now an official outlaw himself. So like in DKR, he defeats the gang leader but almost gets killed in the process...but during Batman's absence (while healing), the gang then affiliates themselves with him like the S.O.B.'s in DKR, becoming a sort of Guardian Angel group who deal out harsh punishment to criminals on the streets. Rather like the 'impostors' in the beginning of TDK, but in larger numbers and instead of Bat-costumes, they have Bat-symbols tattooed on their faces....more tribal, if you will.

Great....just the kind of thing Batman needs...yet more violence amongst the criminals with a bunch of them acting in his name. So again, things get even worse, an S.O.B. is killed by the cops, so the gang storms the police dept and now the city is war zone. There's a blackout, etc.....and Batman finally comes back, like in DKR, and basically declares a state of martial law, getting the S.O.B.'s to do things 'his way', more methodically with the emphasis on restoring a sense of order, rather than just punishment. So that's how Batman 'redeems' his place with Gotham City, I guess. Unfortunately, it doesn't really leave much room for incorporating another one of the traditional 'rogues gallery' villains like Riddler/Penguin/Catwoman/etc., but narratively, I think it could be a good way of upping the scale/stakes that have been established with this particular version of Batman so far.

Just a rough idea of things.

I want Selina Kyle for sure. That's the ONLY demand I have for this film.

She fits perfectly in Nolanverse. I just hope the actress he chooses is the RIGHT one. The big problem is that Nolan's female characters have been his weak spot so it will take a very versitile, strong and efficient actress to overcome these obstacles.

I want to see more mystery and more detective work...perhaps have some scenes where Batman is in the sewers.

I want to see more scenes that make us fans and the general movie audience jump out of our seats freaked out by the surprises.

1. The untouchable crimelord, The Penguin played Bob Hoskins

2. The Return of Harvey "Two-Face" Dent and his redemption at the end

3. Catwoman

4. Robin

5. Talia Al Ghul

6. Batman visiting Arkham Asylum and having a one on one chat with the Joker ala "The Killing Joke"

7. Mention of the Riddler at the end like they did with the Joker in BB.

Well, what if the state of disarray and confusion amongst random street violence and such could be actually a structured system of decay and degradation of gotham by talia al ghul?? (as opposed to the mutant gang) I'd really like to see Talia make an appearance, especially taking into consideration if the film's theme or motif (if you will) is focusing on redemption/revenge.

Forgot to add: i feel like in a third installment, it would be nice to see some of Bruce's inner demons...e.g., visiting his parents' and maybe rachels' graves. There was that great panel in The Long Halloween where Bruce breaks down at his parents grave that could function very well in the next film since it wasn't really addressed in TDK. Again, this could potentially fuel the redemption/revenge motif if one exists.

The BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM game looks awesome by the way.

I would like to see elements from the game used in the next Nolan Bat film.

Especially with way Batman is seen in stealth mode, in the shadows.....breaking arms, legs, choking people out, using more MMA style fighting. He should use more Batarangs and smoke bombs and use his gauntlets more as weapons by slicing people.

I totally agree.

Agree.

Bruce at his parents' grave, speaking to them, asking for guidance is a must for Batman 3.

Yes definitely need to see a scene like that.

I think the next Batman film should explore Bruce's guilt again. Like he relapses into how he felt at the beginning of Batman Begins. Feeling guilty because of the loss of Rachel and Harvey, becoming more rage filled and isolated again. Maybe even more brutal, plus the added pressure of being the cities most wanted, could make for a pretty compelling movie.

Ah, I agree to this too:

For Batman 3:

-Batcave a must
-I really can't envision a Batman 3 without Catwoman. The void left by Rachel's death is the perfect setup for the introduction of the character.
-Bruce must again be the focus... the trilogy will seem "unfocused" if Bruce's journey is not, in some way, further tested, focused on, and given some sort of conclusion...even if his war on crime continues onward...
-A bada** Commissioner Gordon!!!!
-I kinda would like Scarecrow to reappear...because...
-The freaks take over. The mob is finished. Freaks rule Gotham.
-Bruce visits his parents' grave.
-The presence of the Joker is felt. BUT NO RECAST!!!!

I agree with Selina being a must in the film. She can inspire Bruce and give him the added inspiration and inner strength that he would need to keep fighting the good fight.

She can give Bruce something that Rachel couldn't. Selina would understand the need for Batman and support him in the crusade. Where as Rachel couldn't give him that full on support that Bruce is going to need.

Agree.

Agreed! Perhaps with Alfred about 10 feet away in the background.

I also would like to see the introduction of Dr Leslie Thompkins played by Helen Mirren. It would be great to see Alfred and Leslie flirt around and have witty British banter in the film, especially with great actors like Caine and Mirren involved.

Thank you Greg and Ace of Knaves for agreeing with me. I think Greg's additions sound nice although im not entirely sold on catwoman (not knocking your idea just the character). If we see more of a bruce-oriented journey film through emotions, it would be good to introduce dr. leslie thompkins and potentially a vicki vale type....but whatever good ideas all around!

If any character from the comics is introduced (aside from the new villains), I agree it should be Leslie. She hasn't been in a Batman movie before, she gives Alfred a side-plot love interest, a mother figure for Bruce, and she ties back into Bruce's parents' and their lives and histories...

^^Exactly!

Dr Thompkins would also find out Bruce is Batman in the 3rd film.

My idea would be to have Bruce get beat up pretty bad in a great fight sequence by an assassin (from the League of Shadows perhaps, like Bane, DeathStroke, or Lady Shiva)

His injuries are too advanced for Alfred, so he would ask for the help of an old flame and friend of the Wayne family in Dr Thompkins. Leslie would find out Bruces' identity and would be upset and absolutely against what he is doing.
