^ Horror? Yikes.

MASK OF THE PHANTASM was almost lite kiddie horror. Phantasm was like a slasher type of character knocking people off.

I could see something teetering on psychological thriller, but even that seems unlikely.

We kind of already got that with TDK. I want the third film to go somewhere new, yet still belong in the Nolanverse. Thats not impossible. The differences between BB and TDK in genre are clearly distinct.

Lets not retread old grounds.

One of the most overlooked Batman tales is also one of the best. It begins with the Batman in dire straits, held captive beneath Gotham by a group of zealots. Their leader, the charismatic Deacon Blackfire is determined to break Batman's will and brainwash him to becoming a devoted follower. It works. It's shocking, jarring and incredible. The Batman's will is destroyed and even after his escape, the Dark Knight remains on shaky ground. Outside of A Death in the Family, this is the only trade paperback to feature Jason Todd as Robin (and a likable one at that). He assists Batman in trying to reclaim his own will, but it's not an easy path. The Cult feels (and even looks) a lot like The Dark Knight Returns, but this is no futuristic tale or flight of fancy. This is real and the story is told with callous brutality that makes it all the more powerful.

Which I was informed the other day was the basis for MASK OF THE PHANTASM...

I wouldn't mind seeing the theme of escalation going a bit more extreme again.

One guy I really want to see is The Mad Hatter. Don't know if he could fill in a Main Villain role in Nolan's take but a nice fleshed out side villain (like Lau was in The Dark Knight) would be great.

I can imagine the hated and hunted Batman seeing The Mad Hatter as a good chance to show Gotham he's the good guy near the start of the film but it all going horribly wrong somehow, like someone dies and adds onto Batman's troubles.

Other than that:
-Wayne Manor
-Batcave
-Batsignal in the sky, at least at the end
-Batmobile
-Batarangs
-Batwing (not holding my breath on this one haha)
-Bats
-Keep Detectives Stephens (loved watching this guy for some reason) and Ramirez
-Harvey Bullock (clashing with Stephens over Batman would be cool haha)
-Renee Montoya would be cool but I guess unnecessary if Ramirez is sticking around.
-Mob Boss Penguin (it won't happen but I can dream haha)
-Batman on the rooftops
-Maybe a fight on the rooftops
-A villain who wins the hearts and minds of Gotham and has Batman's reputation (further) ruined (ala Batman Returns)
-Batman's reputation redeemed in the eyes of Gotham by the end of the film, through some heroics, saving the city from the bad guy.

For Main Villain:
Considering it looks like The Riddler's been ruled out, Nolan's more down to Earth take on all this, and the fact that I dig the idea of Batman saving the city from some crazed lunatic with a brilliant scheme...I have no idea who I would pick. Although I am coming around to Black Mask or Hugo Strange. But not Hush. He's been handled great in the comics but I think he's too personal a villain and not enough of a Gotham-wide threat. And I would prefer Catwoman made an appearance and not Talia but that's me.

Thanks.

What I would do, and this isn't exactly foreign territory to comics readers, is have Bruce realize that his war on crime needs to involve stopping crime at the source, and bettering the lives of Gotham's unfortunate to prevent the breeding of criminals, and I would use that to improve his public image, which was tarnished in BEGINS, and starting to become a bit more respectable in THE DARK KNIGHT. Leslie Thompkins would be tied to that, as would Selina Kyle. Heck, I would tie Hugo Strange to it as well, if I had my druthers, and have done so in a script or two.

I like it. Sometimes, Bruce himself is neglected because there's not much interesting to say about his daily life if it's just his buffoon masquerade. This is one of the reasons I'm optimistic about Batman Incorporated, actually; it puts a new spin on Bruce's public life, and gives him more to do than just 1) fight crime, and 2) brood in the cave. And really, I like it when Gotham catches of a glimpse of Bruce's true character through the masquerade.

So yeah, I would be all for a subplot about restoring Bruce's public image (in addition to the probably obligatory story restoring Batman's image).

Wayne Foundation. Also gives him a chance to rebuild his bridges with Lucius.

Well, in the comics she met Bruce when he was a kid, right after his parents were killed. She comforted him, and looked after him.

Leslie was notably absent from Begins.

We saw very little of what happened Bruce in the immediate aftermath of his parents deaths. She could easily be included in TDKR. with a reference to her counselling Bruce in that period.

I agree. I really appreciate writers who try to do something with Bruce, for example Nolan who did a lot with the character and even gave him an action scene with the Lambo.

It also brings him full circle, to become what his parents were, and something more.

You know what else would bring it full circle?

Robin.

Instead of Bruce being the son to the father(s) Thomas, surrogate fathers Alfred, Gordon, Ra's... Bruce could be the father to the son.

Step away from the keyboard, Lungrocket.

-Black Mask as the rising freak Mob boss
-Deadshot and Lady Shiva as rival bounty hunters for Black Mask
-Deadshot played by Tom Hardy
-Black Mask played by Viggo Mortenson
-Lady Shiva possibly played by Keira Knightley
-Catwoman played by Rachel Weisz
-More of Arkham Asylum/The Narrows
-Rise of the Freaks due to the impact left by The Joker but taken further by Black Mask
-Intimidating Batman

I honestly don't think I could sit there and buy Christian Bale as any kind of a father figure. It's one of the reasons I didn't like Terminator 4. I simply don't get the impression that this is a man who could instill people with hope and provide them with guidance.

That's harsh man but you also have to figure Bruce would be reluctant about Robin at first and Bale can play that off. If this was a saga I'd be pulling for Robin but not for this. Also Robin would have to be drastically different.

I'd be for a young Dick Grayson showing up towards the end of the movie... but no Robin. Robin could be left "untold" in this trilogy. We all know the story from where Dick Grayson enters the scene, anyway.

With Bruce having lost his parents in the first film... the third film could reflect the opposite... Bruce becoming a father figure to Dick Grayson.

JMO.

Catwoman (love interest/villaness)
Deadshot (cameo)
Oswald Cobblepot (taking over the mafia)

A full on Bat-cave (computer, batmobile, costume room, etc)

In a perfect world Joker would be recast, and Harley would be brought into it as well.

- New Batmobile
- Batcave
- Two main villains
- Interesting leading lady

Here is the thing about having Dick Grayson. If you include Dick Grayson, you must detract screen time from Batman, in order to have interactions between Bruce Wayne and his young ward. Alternatively, you make Dick into Robin so that you can keep Batman screen time, and you reck the realistic tone of the films. There is no way that Nolan's Bruce Wayne would put a child into harms way just so he can have a side kick. Also, criminals are hardcore in this film. I can't picture a 12-15 year old kid taking on crime lords with mobs and attack dogs. Batman is highly trained and he continually gets knocked around in these movies (lit on fire, poisoned, hit with steel pipes, bitten by dogs etc). What chance would a child stand, if Batman himself is getting beaten up? He'd catch crowbar to the face faster than you can say Jason Todd.

I love Tim Drake and Dick Grayson. They are fantastic characters in the comics, but they don't seem like they would translate into the world that Nolan has created. It is much the same way with how Tim Burton avoided Robin. The character just didn't fit in his dark world, or with his interpretation of Batman/Bruce Wayne. The only angle I could see is if at the end of the film, after successfully getting Gotham to stand up for itself, and abandoning the Batman persona, Bruce takes on a ward as a means to give back to the city as himself, rather than as Batman. Anything else will just seem cluttered and out of place. Of course, this is my opinion. If anyone has an angle that I am missing, I would love to hear it.

The ?ion,

Well, on theory they could always do what Schumacher did and age Robin to late teen/young adult. As much as the guy is despised, I think his older Robin more or less worked in BF. I was never big on the whole kid-crimefighter thing, tbh.

Have any of you listened to the kick ass score yet? Well I was watching the movie yesterday (first time since back in April when it released) and noticed that some of the music would fit perfectly in a Nolan Batman movie. Tracks like (big daddy kills, and big daddy dies) have hans Zimmer written all over them. Then there were a few select shots in the film, particullarly those involving Mark Strong's character, which totally resembled a wally pfister style. Anyways while watching those scenes and hearing that music i imagined mark strong as Roman Sionis aka black mask. So that type of music is what i would want in the 3rd movie. Not all the tracks from the score, just the non lyric and non rock n roll ones. Check it out sometime

Doesn't exactly go well with the title "The Dark Knight Rises," IMO.

An older Robin worked quite well in the animated series. I thought BF's Robin was okay too, but think he's despised because he's also associated with the film that followed.

Every hero must fall first before they can rise, my friend. :cwink:
