When Begins came out, to me it looked like BTAS made realistic a bit. Batman looked just like his animated counterpart (wide chest, huge neck), the city had that brown/gold tint to it (the animated gotham was brown because of art deco), the whole direction of the movie was realistic but with that air of comics... It was more realistic, but you had the feeling that even the unrealistic elements of the mythos could fit in that world just fine. Then TDK came and it was like Heat 2.
People whined about the microwave emitter in BB, but goddamnit the guy has a flying tank and a magic cape! Its still a batman movie, why does it have to be so realistic and down to earth?

That's why i appreciate what Morrison has done with the character. At one time he opened a secret door in his cave, said "lets get weird" and then flew away on a flying saucer! Morrison's run occasionally has crazy stuff like that that dont mess up the story, but still make it entertaining and colourful in stark contrast to Dini's flaccid run.

Nolan has forged a new bat-audience. You can see it at BatmanOnFilm. A group of fans that dont want anything unrealistic about the character, dont want batman in the JL, dont like Brave and Bold and generally claim that if it isnt Bruce on a gargoyle in the rain, it isnt batman. Well i am sorry but Brave and Bold isnt aimed at 30 y.o batman fans, its target is to introduce kids to the franchise but it also succeeds in being entertaining for adults. Batman belongs in the JL just as much as he belongs in gotham and some people like that. Jett and his team can simply NOT BUY those books and let the rest of us enjoy them.

Some JLA themed Smallville episodes were good, proving that the JLA can work on film and that Batman can work in its ranks (just look at Green Arrow who substitutes for batman. He even has a K ring). And if they treat the JL with care, just like nolan did with Batman, then it will work. If people like watching Superman kicking Brainiac's ass, then they will like it if he does it with Batman's, WW's and others' help. Marvel is showing DC how its done the way they are going to introduce the Avengers.

Then, Morrison is twice the writer Dini is, and thats why Dini's run is nothing new, nothing different. Morrison's run is a rollercoaster by comparison.

I really hope Watchmen and Morrison's run act as a paradigm for Nolan and teach him that he doesnt have to be so sterile and serious. But then again Watchmen didnt do so well in the box office...

B3 better go back to the franchise's roots! I want a better batsuit and not a swat-suit, i want batman to be mysterious and intimidating again, i want an atmospheric gotham, i want a new car and a batwing and i want an unrealistic villain! I also want a film with Superman and maybe even Green Arrow. This Smallville crap show really made me hungry of a DC team up movie (if not a full blown JL one). People that said that the nolanverse doesnt belong in a wider DC universe are wrong. The Begins one could, the TDK one cant. And if Nolan takes it back to the BB flair then he can leave the franchise at a place where his batman can move on, and fight Killer Croc, join the JL, etc.

We dont have to reboot the franchise, we dont have to make one shot batman movies with each director doing his spin (as if we dont know what the "visionary" Snyder would do... Adapt DKR page by page on screen). Just like the tone changed from BB to TDK, another director could change a few things and keep it going. Just look at the new trilogy of Spiderman that they are working on! Different director and cast, same continuity!

So:
1) Rebooted Superman franchise. Movie 1: Clark's last year in Smallville and his first in Metropolis. Lana leaves him because she feels she is holding him back, Lois has no interest in him and falls in love with Superman. They engage in a Lois&Clark (tv series) dynamic relationship at the planet. Later in the movie Lana is seen in Metropolis (for work maybe) and she witnesses Superman saving a suicidal emo girl (All Star anyone?)that jumped off a building. She puts 2 & 2 together (she knew about the powers) and figures out that Clark is Superman. She smiles and walks away. Movie is clearly set in a wider DC universe. Example: Clark is thinking about a suit, and Martha makes a comment about Batman and Green Arrow. "A vigilante? I hope you arent thinking of becoming like that crazy in Gotham or that girly one from Star city".
Introduce a good Lex that is trying to amend for his father's shady business by being a philanthropist. Superman outshines him and he gets angry but not evil yet. Introduce Brainiac. Brainiac is the main villain and Superman beats him. Throughout this and every crossover Superman is in, its always pointed out that he is the hope and symbol of mankind (america dont be so possessive). The man everybody looks up to. Something like TDK Dent. In the end, Lex cant trust superman, he believes that he could be an alien spy, or that he will turn evil at some point. "We must prepare against such a threat". The movie ends.

2) Rebooted Superman franchise. Movie 2: A few years pass and Lex has turned to weapons manufacturing and generally evil technology. By now Superman is supposed to be pretty established and not a rookie anymore. Lex builds Metallo, or bioengineers Parasite or something like that. Basically someone acts as Lex's brawn. Lois takes interest in Clark and stops being a teenage girl over superman.

3) Make a Superman/Batman movie that establishes their first encounter and friendship. You dont want to dedicate the JL movie on that and besides they should be friends before it. It should be a given by then. Basically Batman is House, Superman is Wilson. Copy that, get success. The movie will make millions if its half as good as the BTAS/STAS movie crossover by Timm and Dini. Bruce flirts with Lois just like he did in the animated move. Gets on Clark's nerves, subtle hilarity ensues.
Just imagine the marketing for this movie. It will be huge!

4) Batman's new trilogy #1: New director and cast but it takes Nolan's movies as prequels. The trilogy intertwines with the broader DC movieverse (all the other movies do as well) but very little. There will be references to the major JL events. In chats with alfred, or if at some point Batman beats up Superman in the JL movies, thugs in gotham will talk about it and crap their pants even more when they meet him, or a scene with batman monitoring the other heroes (no Tower of Babel bullcrap though, i said Batman is House, not borderline psychotic), maybe even a minor guest appearence (Batman is busy fighting Bane/Croc/Hush and Superman drops by to talk to him about something. It has nothing to do with the movie arc, but the wider DC universe which batman doesnt ignore.)
In other words, its all part of the wider DC universe but separate enough. Broader DCU events affect Batman but not too much,so that people who dont like Batman in the JLA can still ignore it and enjoy a classic batman movie.
Anyway, Batman adopts Dick (it would be better if it happened in Nolan's third, but Nolan is too scared to touch the subject even if it would give him a great scope over batman's psych).

5) Third Superman movie. Introduce the 4th World. First invasion of earth by Darkseid's forces. They are searching for an artifact of great power (the allspark t to restore his powers after a battle with New Genesis left him powerless. Superman repels the invaders. In the meantime he hooks up with Lois. The movie ends with Darkseid planning the main invasion. Lois and Clark get married. The following page could be this movie's tie in with the wider DCU.

6) JLA #1. Superman, Batman, WW, GL, Flash and Hawkgirl fight an apocalyptic battle against Darkseid. Maybe Darkseid mindcontrols Superman and Batman beats him up? Yeah, somehow he will pull it off!

7) How about a Robin-Speedy movie? Batman is busy with the JL and Robin watches over Gotham. He teams up with G.Arrow's sidekick Speedy (hm...that would probably mean that G.A has to be in the JL as well... maybe) and expose a conspiracy. They first engage in a "my daddy could beat up your daddy" feud (hilarity ensues). Their adventure takes them to both Gotham and Star city, they get to use their mentors' vehicles (classic batmobile vs arrowcar) and they end up becoming friends. A movie aimed at a younger audience, but still entertaining for the serious audience such as Jett. If done in a Brave & Bold manner, it will be no SpeedRacer.

I just remembered something i kinda wanna see on Batman 3. Gordon finding out that Bruce Wayne is Batman, now in the finale fight/crime againts whoever the big menace of Gotham in the 3rd movie ends up being, lets say Batman's mask gets partially ruined and a piece drops of it, and lets say Jim Gordon was kidnapped by this guy or was at the scene, and sees Batman's partial face but clear enough to realize who it is.

Then at the end of the movie we see Jim either talking about Batman to Bruce Wayne or some police, telling he didn't have his glasses on so he didn't get a good look, either burning or just putting his "Bruce Wayne is Batman?" suspect file to some locker and never taking a look again.

I'd like to see Batman use the Matches Malone identity to escape the GCPD, they should show more of how Batman hides in the shadows to attack his opponents, more use of his Martial-Arts skills in fighting opponents and He should finally make proper use of the Batarang Etc.

yeah we never got to see that aspect... maybe he could be in the poilce head quarters in a straight jacket making bets with cops and dislocates his shoulder to get out in the nic of time winning the bet...

but yeah on a serious note I would like to see him somehow escape from "something" the only thing is whoever locks him or whatever would probably want to unmask him...

what Drz mentioned would be nice to see to as another nod to Year One somethign where its up to the viewer if Gordon did see who he was or not and chooses to be silent about it, It really shows the strength of there relationship and the respect he has for Batman...

Of course I think everyone here wants Wayne Manner and The Cave set up again

Agreed about the batarangs and Matches Malone. I remember an issue during Morrison's run (IIRC) which starts with Gordon arriving at the scene of a murder and the other cops informing him that there is a new CSI dude that just got transfered to Gotham investigating the body. Gordon approaches and the CSI says: "dark night, eh commisioner?"
Gordon takes the clue and sends away the cops that were nearby so that he can talk with that guy. Its obviously batman under heavy disguise. Was that cool or what?

Now that Batman is on the run, Nolan can use Batman's disguises as a way for him to keep working without the cops on his tail all the time. But he shouldnt overdo it though!

i read the novelization of tdk and he did whn he investigated harvey, man unsolved killings of both parents who were seperated, and in the same room!

What I'd personally want for the third film:


-Scarecrow to be the lead villain or at least a major supporting villain with much more screentime. He's gotten the shaft so far IMO and he deserves time to shine as the lead villain.

-Supporting villains I'd like to see would be Black Mask, Two-Face and Catwoman, and maybe The Riddler as well, since he deserves a proper live-action depiction.

-The realism toned down a bit but the tone still kept serious. I want to see characters like Man-Bat and Freeze in the new series eventually and portrayed properly.

-Batman's voice fixed. I don't mind it like some fans, but there are instances it's too much for me. They need to find a good medium to balance it out so it's perfect.

-A Batwing or type of aerial vehicle introduced into the new series. BB had the Tumbler, TDK had both the Tumbler and Batpod, it'd be nice to continue the tradition with a new vehicle per film.

-Gotham looking much gritter and grimier, like BB. I missed that Gotham in TDK and love the cold, dark and gritty feeling BB's Gotham left me with.

-Improved editing. I felt in BB and TDK, sometimes it was too tight and choppy. I hope it's improved in the next film.

Yeah, I think He should be the main villain, He didn't get much screentime in BB and being reduced to a random criminal in the TDK cameo.

Anyway...

I want to see the Riddler. But give him a new spin, make sure the villains are fresh. Make him a Fed of some kind. He could still retain his main traits. Obsessive nature, arrogance, trying to prove that he is the best.

A villain who can actually match Batman physically. I wanna see proper fights on rain swept Gotham rooftops. Not a main villain, just someone who randomly pops up every now and then. Someone like Deathstroke.

Batman actually fighting with style. I don't know how ANYONE can like those "fights" in TDK. They were absolute tripe. Batman is supposed to be one of the best martial artists in the world, he definitely didn't look like it in TDK.

The grande finale of the film set at Arkham. Joker takes over the facility and begs Batman "to pay him a visit" or he will start slaughtering hostages.

The very final scene is Batman on a rooftop at night with the newly re-installed Bat signal blazing in the night sky.

It's getting kind of old with people saying, "Nolan doesn't own the character". The man has given you two fantastic films, and you ***** b/c it's either too realistic or not exactly what you want. (it has been pointed out many times that they're not even that realistic) Bottom line is, in his movies he can do what he wants. If you're not a fan don't accuse him of hijacking the character, just wait patiently until someone else gets a go at it.

Sorry, it's not directed at you although im right under you. I have heard it many times in this thread and others. Even on this page I think.

I recently have been watching BB again after having seen TDK numerous times. Aside from a few lame one liners and that damn guy in Wayne Tower repeating himself about how the water mains are going to blow I miss this movie. I really have trouble now picking which of the two is my favorite.

Although Nolan had some great and epic shots of Gotham/Chicago in TDK, he had lower or better angles in BB that made it look more cluttered, claustrophobic as well as having more night shots. In TDK, the scene where Batman is on that skyscraper trying to listen in to different frequencys and hears the Joker's clue about the two dead bodies, it's a great shot of the city but it's so high up that it misses a lot of other buildings.

I really want the look and similar shots off Gotham from BB to return in a third film, including the narrows. Although I loved TDK, I never got the feeling the city was as bad as it's supposed to be in the comics. BB gave me that to a pretty good extent.
