Iron Man 2 The Official Whiplash Thread

RDJ is getting kinda up there in age... I hope the motivation for doing a third IM will be more than just the paycheck... I am sure he loves the character and all... but we saw what happens when a cast gets tired of a superhero franchise... SM3 first comes to mind. Hope they fast track it right after Avengers for 2013 just so everything gets done as quickly and as smoothly as possible. Plus taking the extra year is by no means a guarantee the film will be any good

I agree about fast tracking IM3 for 2013 after the Avengers. RDJ will be 48 then, which isn't too old at all. But at some point the baton will have to be passed, cause he's not going to be able to play Iron Man forever, like you said. But Marvel as a film company wants to be around for a long, long time to come.

I pretty much expect 2013 myself. I'll be surprised if its any later. Three years is pretty much the standard waiting period between sequels. Plus, once IM2 hits theaters next May, Favreau will have been focused on Iron Man for four years at that point. So thats enough time for him to do something else between films. And it gives Downey a break after doing IM2 and Avengers back-to-back.

I heard that Mickey Rourke is playing Carnage

He is taking the piss out of you.

And anyway, according to IMDB wasn't Aunt May supposed to be Carnage?

In the interview, didn't RDJ say that Mickey's character could actually be a mixture of both Whiplash and Crimson Dynamo?

That idea doesn't really sound that bad to me. There has been so many Crimson Dynamo's over the years that I think it gives more room for the character to be different. I could see Justin Hammer providing Rourke's character with both the whip from Whiplash and the Crimson Dynamo armor.

Mickey Rourke Not Doing Iron Man 2?
Source: New York Magazine
February 18, 2009

Mickey Rourke has told New York Magazine that it's looking like he won't be playing the villain in Iron Man 2:

But so what if ICM's David Unger doesn't look good in a dress — at least he's battling Marvel for a bigger paycheck for Rourke for his rumored role as a villain in Iron Man 2, right? "Right now, we're not doing Iron Man 2," Rourke told us grimly.

In January, the news broke that Marvel had offered the award-winning "Wrestler" star just $250,000 to play a villain in the sequel. Perhaps further negotiations didn't go so well? Also, Rourke is now firmly attached to star in Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables, which starts shooting shortly and might interfere with the Iron Man 2 shoot.

Stay tuned for possibly more on this...

Much ado about nothing

They'll offer him more once he wins his oscar.

Unless the reason he (possibly) pulled out WAS the conflict with the Expendables.....

This is ridiculous. Howard, Jackson, Rourke... I am becoming concerned that the studio's approach is going to damage this film.

Ditto. Right now, and people are going to kill me for this, I am actually preferring Fox to Marvel. There. I said it. And people can go "Oh but these negotiations happen all the time blah blah blah..." I really don't care. Keep them out of the public eye, because even if the film isn't "hurt" because of these updates it's still discouraging to your fans and still leaves a sour taste in peoples mouths.

I've never heard negotiations be so outspoken in my life.

^^^But it's not Marvel that is going public with all this, is it Frostbite?

I dare say they dont want all this out in the open.

Sounds to me like the boys at Marvel are being cheap fools lately. Unfortunate.

I dont think they will be talking to so many stars, if they were that cheap...

And I think his role in The Expendables in pretty small, like some gun dealer that supplies the mercs...

People may call me an apologist, since *****ing about Marvel's negotiations is the "in" thing at the moment, but I will be very surprised if Rourke isn't in the film.

Notice how he says "right now"? And how he has mentioned Iron Man 2 in almost every interview where he was asked what he is doing next? He (or probably, more accurately, his agent) is holding out for Oscar night, so he can maximize his paycheck.

Or maybe Marvel is just doing everything in their power to **** up negotiations and then leak said ****ed up negotiations to their fanbase

Since when did Mickey winning the Oscar become a sure thing? He won the Golden Globe and Penn won the SAG. It's up in the air between the two.

It isn't, but it's not as though his paycheck has any room to get smaller if he loses :oldrazz:

Many people believe he should win the Oscar (there is also a "leaked" list of winners, with Rourke)

IMO, Rourke nominated should be in the dictionary as the ultimate definition of overrated...

double ****ing post... damn connection...
