Iron Man 2 The Official Whiplash Thread

ouch the bad news continues for this movie, I too am a little concerned of whether or not they can make their release targets!

Why is Marvel suddently so cheap? 250 000? Now for those who were saying that Terrence Howard issue was not about Money...I think you have you re answer.:o

Bad news? What?

I don't get all this negativity. Why is everyone getting so bent out of shape because Rourke doesn't think he's going to do it?

Good God, you guys make it sound like Rourke is some kind of deity for his performance in The Wrestler.

All you guys are doing is throwing around one RUMORED number. It sickens me how everyone is throwing Marvel under the bus because of unfounded nonsense.

If he doesn't come on board it's not the end of the world, there are other actors out there and quit frankly this happens all the time with films, actors come and go and are rumored to be attached and not attached.
Would it be nice to have him on board sure, but if not, the world keeps spinning.
As for bad news, what bad news exactly is everyone talking about, Emily Blunt being told by Fox she has to do a film at the same time as Iron Man 2 and now Rourke and Sam Jackson negotations not going well, thats Hollywood, not a curse, the film is still 2 months from filming, calm down, plenty of time for things to shake down.
They still have Favreau as director, RDJ as the star and Gwyneth, Don Cheadle & Sam Rockwell on board, still a great cast.

Hey! compare to DC Marvel is A1! It s just that Mickey is so cool it would have been great to see him in the movie.

Im not negative cause no mather what Iron man2 will rock even better than the first one. But still it sucks that Terrence and Mickey are out of the picture.

I am with you, IM2 will be fine, yes it was disappointing to see Terrence not come back for what ever the reason was, I do like Don Cheadle so that softens the blow abit.
It would be very cool to have Mickey on board and who knows what may happen yet, but if not that's ok as well, like I said there are alot of actors out there.

There are a lot of actors out there, but not many who are as simultaneously ripped and talented as Rourke.

I'm just going to hold out hope that his "right now" literally means "right now". Because losing Mickey Rourke is a major blow to this film, imo. (Unlike losing Howard)

Here's what Corona's had to say about this:

While attending this year's Domenico Vacca fashion show in NYC, New York magazine's Vulture columnist asked Mickey Rourke what the current sit-rep was for him with Iron Man 2. "Right now, we're not doing Iron Man 2," the actor said.

To our ears it sounded like Rourke was saying that there's no deal in place yet, not that there won't ever be a deal.

I think a deal will eventually be made for Rourke and Samuel L.

The folks at Marvel to appear to be cheap asses though, which is unfortunate.

Hell, if they were smart, give them a decent salary then give them back end (and no, not gross points which are completely different, but a back end deal, i.e. every $100 mil. domestic it makes we give you 750k or something like that).

Marvel is just still a young studio, and their lack of experience is showing greatly.

^^ i really hope so. it doesent really bother me that cheadle is replacing howard, because i like howard, yet cheadle is really versatile; starring in such films as reign over me and talk to me,and howard was paid more than any other actor on set. the thing that bothers me the most is 1st samuel l. jackson, and now rourke? damn, the next news we'll hear is "Sam Rockwell Not Justin Hammer In IM2?"

Agreed. This is so ridiculous. All I care about is the movie's quality.

It's obvious that Marvel is placing zero value in the actors... I guess it sets a precedent if you want to take a positive out of it. I mean they could sign Blunt for Avengers if that schedule somehow alligns... and then turn around a year later and bring Scarlet or Dushku to replace her as BW in the Avengers movie. Would anyone be suprised? Now as far as Rourke... don't care that much because I think there are more suitable actors out there for Crimson Dynamo... maybe not as good as Rourke in terms of star power... but capable actors. Plus Whiplash would have been a horrible villain so if Rourke was to play him then good riddance to the character if that means the end of him. But Marvel will have to turn around quick and get someone on board... and I hope to God it ain't Triple H or some real life wrestler... with that salary Marvel is offering maybe that's all they can afford.

Based on what? One replacement and a lot of scuttlebutt, none of which has been officially backed up and/or finalized?

Obviously Downey feels well-payed. And Paltrow, and Cheadle, and Rockwell. And for all the talk about Marvel not wanting to pay Favs more and Favs possibly not coming back, he did.

Two of those actors are returning actors... one was a recast. Did Spidey have trouble maintaining their big three? Nolan had a recast but he still kept everyone else. So far they have just brought in Rockwell... before that we were adding Blunt, Rourke, and Jackson to that list. With those three possibly gone it looks a lot less intimidating.

"Possibly" being the key word

And since we're comparing this to Spidey - there was a lot of talk about Tobey leaving SM2. Obviously the circumstances were different, but it ended up being a whole bunch of chatter about a non-event.

Man...seems like during the first one there was news bits more often than this time around.

I can wait-It is Iron Man 2 after all:o

Well I don't see why Marvel is going to rule someone completely out until they sign a replacement... I mean what makes you think negotiations are not on an indefinite hold? We only have a little over a month anyhow.

Nothing makes me think that negotiations aren't on indefinite hold, but nothing makes me think they are on indefinite hold either. After all the BS about Favs I'm just taking a wait-and-see.

Although I wish the wait wasn't so long. Marvel needs to tell us SOMETHING :o

Why do they feel they don't need to spend money on this film? It is kind of sad.

Some Iron Man fans are such cry-babies.

Give it a rest... I see you on the DC boards *****ing about Supes all the time. And you still can't get over Batman being as successful as it has.

And I agree with the previous poster... the sequel should have no problem going to a 200 million dollar budget based on the returns. Now maybe MArvel isn't allowed to go over 160 or some number if I remember... but still, you have to make some exceptions. How else would they fund a movie like Avengers?

Who knows maybe the recession its getting at Hollywood now...

They only need one big name actor for the villains. Adding Black Widow inside Iron Man 2 is a recipe for swelling cost.

If I were doing Iron Man 2, I'll put only the following roles:
1. Iron Man - RDJ
2. War Machine - Don Cheadle
3. Justin Hammer - 2rd rate actor
4. Crimson Dynamo - a named actor like Mickey Rourke
5. Whiplash - 3rd rate actor, possible female cast.
6. Pepper - Gwyneth Paltrow

The rest are unnamed roles & cast.

The reason I put two enemies Crimson Dynamo & Whiplash because there are 2 armored heroes now Iron Man & War Machine. Iron Man is supposed to be powerful and taking 2 enemies are the routine. 2 vs 2 is better than 2 vs 1.

And no need for Black Widow. Put the extra money for fight scene. $160 million would still make one heck of an ending fight (which is what's weak in the 1st film) and drama for ex-Cold War vet Crimson Dynamo.

So War Machine is now a full blown character? Favreau has hinted we may not even see WM till IM3... and even if we do see him it will probably be towards the end. Besides I don't think it has to be a tag team match. I don't think you need an A-lister for either those villains either... you need a young starlett for BW... and they appear to be getting one. You don't need a big time actor for CD or Whiplash. You don't need a big time actor for Hammer either. My problem isn't with the star power. It's the way Marvel is handling these negotiations. When TV actors are making more money that 250K per episode... and an Oscar nominee gets offered that kind of an upfront deal... I don't know how anyone in their right mind can justify that.

whilst i agree with you i must say..i would like to kinda see an 2 vs. 1 match of iron man vs. whiplash and crimson dynamo..i mean...he already got his *** handed to him by obidiah alone...imagine if he had to take on two at the same time! :wow: it would probably be kinda like in spiderman 3 before harry showed up...;)
