Iron Man 2 The Official Whiplash Thread

So are Whiplash and Crimson Dynamo 2 diff characters? I know squat about Whiplash.

In the comics yes. In this they are reportedly meshing the two into one

Some easy-crops for you to proudly wear :oldrazz:

Really, they are using some of the traits of CD in Whiplash, because i think down the line they might want to use another villain with the CD or Titanitum Man style armor.

Yeah, they apparently are

Rourke also met with Jon Favreau and scribe Justin Theroux and got to be part of the development of his character. He'll play Whiplash, a character that includes elements from that comicbook villain and Crimson Dynamo, another Russian baddie.

I don't see any of Crimson Dynamo in this, so I doubt it's his final look

it could just be that the crimson dynamo is russian. and the name. it's ivan vanko in the movie, and cd's name in the comics is anton vanko who was a scientist.

Maybe, but it seems super pointless to give him CD's name and nationality and nothing else

you don't know what it actually is yet, so it's probably not pointless. shh said he builds the contraption and adds the whips, so he could have cd's backstory as a scientist, and he takes on the whiplash persona.

I like it as a possible "Mark I" design, but I do hope it evolves as the film goes on.

yeah. that's probably the one he builds, and hammer gives him the tech for an upgrade.

It will. This suit design is awful just from a realism standpoint. This guy wouldn't last a minute with Iron Man.

how is it awful from a realism standpoint? if you're going for a realistic translation of the whiplash/blacklash then that pic is as close as you get without the gimp mask. i think you might be looking for a more surreal realism(not a typo) look. realistically what we saw is it. a more surreal take would be adding excess armor to it, which would be cool.

Yes, I think this lends credibility to the suggestions about the suit being further developed--being half naked, it seems a single repulsor blast would finish any fight, so one expects more will be added to the suit as the film goes on. Unless, that is, he has some other defensive technology, like a forcefield.

I'm interested in the suggestions that they may have merged Whiplash with the Crimson Dynamo. Using plain old Crimson Dynamo would have been too similar to Iron Monger in the first film, so it makes sense that they would take some elements from Whiplash to differentiate the two. I hope they call him Crimson Dynamo instead of Whiplash in the film. That would be neat.

Here's my bet:

Ivan Vanko is an inventor. He's jailed because he sells weapons at the Black Market and blames Tony Stark, who uncovered him as Iron Man. In prison, he develops the whips and, after escaping, adquires an copy of Stark's reactor at Black Market (Hammer has been selling them) and use it to energize the whips, attacking Stark as he's attending to the Grand Pix. Stark becomes Iron Man and fights Whiplash, eventually beating him.

Whiplash escapes, and is eventually found by Hammer, who gives him the technology and the money to build a better armor and get his revenge (Distracting Iron Man from Hammer's conspiracy in process). Vanko develops an better armor and attacks Iron Man again, this time, beating him, but not killing him.

In the ending, they have one final scuffle as Iron Man and War Machine battle Hammer, Whiplash and Black Widown. Whiplash dies/goes to prison.

A majority of his body is exposed. One giant hit or blast from Iron Man and hes finished. Remember he is not superhuman. He needs armor if you want to see a good solid battle between the two. Its realistic as a first design...not realistic for a big fight sequence with Iron Man.

understandable. i'm just saying that it actually does resemble the whiplash/blacklash costume which isn't really armored at all. it looks like he just broke out of jail too, so i agree that it'll be more armored later on.

It looks pretty clunky. I'm interested in seeing it in action.

The best part though, is that ... there are many Crimson Dynamo's, so even if Fav and co. want to bring him in the future, they can. There are lot of different characters they can take from and combine into. And who doesn't say that in jail, Whiplash isn't cell mates maybe with someone who could become a future CD.

Plus you have TM as well, if you also want to see a more evenly looking and match suit vs. suit battle one day.

I really like this.

While so many are worrying about him not being in a Crimson Dynamo type suit we already kind of knew he was Whiplash first and foremost in this film. With that being said I think his suit is pretty cool, glad they didn't give him the cheesy S&M mask from the comics.

For those that are worrying I'm sure as a few others have already said he'll probably have a full suit near the end and become 'Crimson Dynamo'.

Can't wait for more!

I'm glad it isn't another suit vs. suit battle. No doubt Whiplash will have some more improvements on to his suit, more protection probably, but it gives to a much different final battle then we got from the first film.

I wonder how long it will be until the Black Widow pic arrives.

I think it looks great cuz its clearly a 1st model IMO
