Iron Man 2 The Official Whiplash Thread

The first Crimson Dynamo's name in the comics was Anton Vanko, but the version of Crimson Dynamo they used in the new tween Iron Man cartoon was named Ivan Vanko, the same name they are using here.

I'd say the chances are very high that he'll end up in a Crimson Dynamo-like suit w/ whips toward the end

This so far, and a year away, is nails already.

I hope the villans here get a good amt of face time

If he is going to end up in a Crimson Dynamo suit...then he would be Crimson Dynamo. The point of Whiplash, is to give us something different from just another man in a suit. Yeah, his armor will probably be more advance by the end film, but most likely will still be with the whips.

i think was filmed on the set that they builded. the greensreen behind people is for CGI IMO. this is in a city after all right?so they will add the city in the BG

I wonder what the more prestige looking promo shots of Whiplash will be like.

Cause i remember Fav talking about how he was around when they where doing photoshoots of RDJ, Scarlett, Gwenyth and Mickey. This is obvious a movie still, so i wonder how much he will let us see of Whiplash in a promo shot.

Because the first movie still shot of Tony was him hammering down the armor and the first promo shot was him in a suit (buisness) with Gwenyth, Howard and Bridges.

Mickey Rourke is gonna be such a friggin bad ass villain. I can't wait.

you mean in 2009 or in general? because they will show action scenes and if there is an extra suit they will show it in 2010.

I mean in 2009. Atleast im talking about the first couple promo shots, when they are still ways away from releasing trailers of any sort.

I don't expect a teaser in any capacity before GI JOE arrives.

It think it looks ok but it does look unfinished. (Whiplash suit I mean). I still have faith that this movie will be just as good if not better than the first.

So his name's Ivan Vanko, eh? Makes you wonder why they didn't just call him Anton Vanko (who was the first Crimson Dynamo)

I think Anton is the Russian translation of Anthony. Maybe they wanted to avoided Tony Stark and his nemesis having pretty much the same first name? Plus, for a Russian villain at least, Ivan sounds a little better.

Honestly in the comics, it astonishes me how the **** Whiplash/Backlash was able to hold his own against a man in a suit of armor that is basically the equivalent of a tank. Those weapons he has have to be on par with what Stark is using as far as power.

Mickey Rourke won a Golden Globe for "The Wrestler," was nominated for an Oscar and, more importantly, saw his career go from nowhere to the stratosphere in just a few months.

So he's back to the big-time paydays, right?

Not so fast.

Negotiating in January to play the evil Whiplash in "Iron Man 2," things turned sour when Marvel offered him only $250,000. After the type of haggling rarely seen between a studio and a star, he finally signed in March for a rumored $400,000.

And Rourke wasn't the only new "Iron Man 2" talent to feel the squeeze. Reports have surfaced that Scarlett Johansson, who would normally get seven figures for a major movie -- is also getting paid a mere $400,000.

Wow. That's less than expected. Hopefully this is showing actors that they are expendable, that that very few are really worth the big bucks. Marvel is saying to the community that they are not going to compromise the overall film just so they can pay x number of extra millions of dollars for a "big name."

Either way the actors are going to demand a pay raise once the final gross comes in. Especially Scarlett. I am thinking her salary will go up as high as a a million for Avengers and possibly 3-4 million by her third film. Marvel is lucky they got her on the cheap for IM2. I don't even know why they bothered with that big a name in the first place, but I can see problems brewing in future negotiations. Never get too comfortable with one actor I guess. Hopefully most of us learned our lesson with Howard.
