Iron Man 2 The Official Whiplash Thread

Does anyone have a larger shot of the Crimson Dynamo toy?

And oin the note of the arc reactor, I think I remember seeing a miniaturized arc ractor on Whiplash's costume (similar to the one on Tony's chest.)

Yeah and maybe they will fight back to back ontop of a giant cooling tower against Black Widow with laser eyes and blades coming out of her arms.:woot:

that be awesome but i think black widow shud have her mouth sewn shut. ya no for suspence

So, originally Ryan Reynolds is Scarlet Johansson? No wonder they're married!

THEY'RE THE SAME PERSON.

OH **** I'M GAY NOW.

Just watched the first one -- when Stark is talking to the pilots*, he jokes about something that happened to Rhodes back in 87 -- and he asks to Rhodes: what was his name? Ivan? :hehe: I find it funnier now

*I think they were pilots
You know what else is sort of funny, I just watched Iron Man again last night and the two F-22 Raptors that chase Iron Man are code named Whiplash 1 & 2.
Ha, I just checked those both out. Awesome. It's too bad that Scarlett didn't make an uncredited cameo as one of the flight attendants :csad:

I know this is off topic and about a different character as well as franchise, but I think of Omega Red (You know, that pasty Russian criminal turned super soldier with tentacles that loved to terrorize Wolverine?) when I see this image.

^ Cool pic.

Probably has been mentioned numerous times before, but I love that Whiplash has a toothpick in his mouth on that "Grand Prix" official picture.

I wonder if we're going to see the Ivan Vanko incarnation of Whiplash get adapted for the comics. Jeff Bridges' character in the first film dovetailed nicely into Matt Fraction introducing Ezekiel Stane with Invincible Iron Man, so maybe he'll also take inspiration from the sequel. Stark could use some more strong bad guys - it's telling that Norman Osborn is already a more compelling foil for Stark than most of the actual Iron Man rogues he has faced.

I wouldn't go that far. IM's got plenty better villains than Osborn.

I dunno. I've kinda been working up a discussion-starter on this very topic in my head, but I think it's the kinda thing I'd rather start a new thread about, rather than taking this one off-topic. Look out for it on the Comics board! :oldrazz:

His bad guy gallery is in need of an update for sure. IM's been kept up to date, but many of his baddies haven't. How else do you think Batman & Spider-man's gallery's still work? They get updated often.

You could make an argument for Spider-Man's gallery starting to slip in relevance as well, largely due to the disdain recent writers apparently have for the classic villains.

^True. Also many of IM's villains are just begging to be tweaked a bit to make them more relevant(like it appears Whiplash is in the upcoming movie). I mean, if they can make a totally lame C-lister like Whiplash cool then there's absolutely no reason all other villains can't be improved as well.

Look at the wonders Geoff Johns has worked with Green Lantern's lame rogues gallery.

Damn, now I'm just talking about all the stuff I was saving for the new thread I'm too lazy to make. :oldrazz:

Point is, characters like Madame Masque, Mandarin, Spymaster and a host of others are loaded with potential. Just need a writer to reinvigorate/reimagine them.

Exactly, the comics have kinda attempted to do this. Inevitable updated Spymaster, Ghost, and Living Laser very well. Mandarin was brought back recently, too. Even the new cartoon, (which, yes, is pretty crappy), has done some interesting interpretations of classic villains. There are no lame villains, just lame writers. Okay, there are, but good writing goes a long way to help make "loser bad guys" cool again.

Every villain can be cool if developed properly. I have some ideas of my own for Iron Man's ones.

The sad thing is, in the comics Omega Red in my opinion is way cooler than Whiplash. In the movies...I would love to see an X-men film with Omega Red(still under Fox of course) try to be as cool as Rourke's Whiplash. Just thinking about it makes me laugh...*sigh*...I wish Marvel had the rights back to X-men.

i still want to see the whips in total action actually slicing things in half

Geoff has made Hector Hammond and Black Hand from cheesy characters to legit and complex enemeis. Samething with his work on The Flash.

A good writer can save anything :)

Calling Captain Obvious yet..?

No, no -- I was commenting on my own reply -- which is not that bright. It's more like DUH
