Iron Man 2 The Official Whiplash Thread

Oh yeah I thought he was used perfect in it and stuff and just like the joker in TDK I wanted more.

I really find it strange... and I haven't seen the movie yet, but I really find it strange that some people are comparing whiplash to the joker, and others are saying he's hardly in it... someone explain...

basically his story arc is weaved throughout the entire movie like the joker's was

you could also make a comparison because
he makes a deal with hammer, vanko skips out on the deal and hammer tries to push him around, through intimidation, which backfires when vanko takes over his computer software and reprograms the drones for his own purposes

he may be in a russian prison, but hes a ****ing genius

While Whiplash V2 was cool, I wish it could have been less Iron Monger V2.

Mickey Rourke was awesome all round. He definitely deserved a whole lot more screentime that what he got.

So which was the scene where he had to put a photo of his deseased pet in front of him to have a sad emotion?

Whiplash's armor was just a hunk of metal, but it really kicked ass! The design didnt matter anyway because the fight was over in less than a minute.

Actually it's 2 minutes long and comes immediately after the drone fight with less than a minute break in between them. This kinda stuff just bugs me, sorry. People complain the end fight in IM1 is over too quickly as well even though it's actually quite a bit longer than the oh-so beloved SpideyVSOck train fight. And the end fight with the Joker in TDK also is only about a minute long yet people don't complain about that, oh no. Also the final fight with Ock in SM2 is very, very short. Need I go on?

I hated how the majority of the film is Mickey Rourke looking bored out of his mind. I think Favreau dropped the ball with this. I mean, we saw Iron Man fight War Machine TWICE and both times it seemed longer than the fight with armoured Whiplash. The length of the drone battle should've been used for the climactic Whiplash battle IMO.

You know...if anyone remembers the first film. IronMonger had only one scene. The final battle. heh The rest of the movie he was just a really bad guy.

I don't know why they kept his armor suit hidden from the trailers, cause it is just a hunk of scrap metal. They could of gave him a cool sleek looking armor with a cool color design, but this movie failed at that like so many other things.

Yea I was expecting something more flexible? Like that comic concept that was going around as a rumour...

At least Stane was actively being menacing/evil throughout the whole movie. Post-Monaco, Vanko's role was reduced to lounging around fiddling with stuff until the last (anti)climactic battle.

This is the very same Vanko who nearly killed Iron Man wearing nothing but a prototype whiplash harness for ****'s sake.

Yea he was full of determination in that racing car scene

In the comics, Whiplash nearly beat Iron Man using nothing but his whips and a gimp mask.

Complaints like this are lame.

[BLACKOUT]Oh yeah, he was about to die and he said "you lose Stark". Dude... YOU LOST!!![/BLACKOUT]

[blackout]In Soviet Russia, dying means you win.[/blackout]

I do hope that the "giant metal man villain" gimmick does get put to rest after this film.

That's one thing I don't really like about Iron Man, basically besides Mandarin, all of his villains are giant metal men.

He didnt realise Iron Man could fly

Are you being serious? I thought everybody know Iron Man can fly.

So which was the scene where he had to put a photo of his deseased pet in front of him to have a sad emotion?

Probably for the [blackout]Anton death scene.[/blackout]

The problem is they built the whole movie, and basis of the character, on the animosity that Ivan has towards Tony. That's why I liked Ivan's character so much. Ivan and Tony are basically the same person, except one was giving the family legacy of American excess, fame, and fortune, and the other's family legacy was betrayal, exile, and incarceration. They could have used that so well to make an epic final battle.

I didn't think Rourke looked "bored", per se. I saw it more as quite contemplation. As Hammer is rambling on, you can see Ivan is thinking, "This guy is a complete fool, but he has what I need, so I will play along... for now." (It helps if you read that sentence with a Russian accent.)

I agree. Vanko was putting up an act in front of Hammer, acting like he didnt understand English so well and all that, so that he could do his own thing. After Monaco Vanko wasnt such a big threat to Tony as he was to Hammer. I was expecting him to jump up and snap his neck at any moment.

Just saw the film...hmmm...

Mickey was underused in this. When they show him at the start you think, wow, a bad guy with a good back story...but it kind of gets lost in with everything else.

I gotta give Rourke props. He gave the performance much more than the script allowed. He was ultimately hampered by said script attempting to neuter him half way through but he did his best with limited resources. He put in a very professional performance

Hopefully they bring him back in other movies with more for the character to do.

So this is what the Mark II version of Whiplash looks like.
