Hugh Jackman announces Stan Lee cameo in 'Wolverine' at Comic-Con

SAN DIEGO - The creator of "X-Men" bumped into Wolverine at Comic-Con.
After happy introductions between Stan Lee and Hugh Jackman, the actor announced that Lee would make a cameo in the upcoming 20th Century Fox movie " X-Men Origins: Wolverine," due out next May.
"Don't tell anyone," Jackman joked about the accidental announcement. "It's always a big shock when people see him."
"I promise not to try and overshadow you," Lee said.
Jackman, who made an unannounced appearance Thursday at the convention to tout "Wolverine," later said that he and Lee had met before, at the opening of the first "X-Men" movie in 2000.
"I don't know if he remembers," said Jackman, who went on to praise the 85-year-old comic-book king.
"Around here this guy is like a god," Jackman said. "Around here, people see this guy, they faint. Their whole livelihood and everything they're interested in came out of his mind."
One character Lee didn't create, Jackman added, was Wolverine.
But there is always room for more superheroes on screen, Lee said. The success of superhero flicks will continue to inspire new and better big-screen stories, he said.
"You could tell having seen 'Iron Man,' having seen ' Batman,' the writers and producers and directors now know how to treat these movies," he said. "They're not just silly stories of people wearing capes hitting a bad guy. They have more dimension to them."
" ... It's like gangster movies," he said. "There will never be an end to crime stories. There will never be an end, I think, to superhero stories. They'll just evolve, they'll be done in different ways and I think they'll keep getting better and better."
Well said." ... It's like gangster movies," he said. "There will never be an end to crime stories. There will never be an end, I think, to superhero stories. They'll just evolve, they'll be done in different ways and I think they'll keep getting better and better."
According to Jackman the story spans 100 years so yeah that's a lot of ground to cover in a 2 to 2 1/2 hour (who am I kidding this is Fox we're luky to get 2 hours) movie.quick question when does the main story take place? the80's or what?
Superhero Moment
Well, we've been in San Diego for 24 hours now. The weather, as always, is darned near perfect. Our hotel has a view of the bay and whatever battleship that is in dock across the water on Del Coronado Island. And Len says he may never come back again because how could he possibly top what's happened so far. It is truly lovely to be a special guest and actually treated as...special.
This morning was the Fox presentation of upcoming films. Unlike a number of people in the audience, we knew there was a special guest showing up for a few minutes after the panels on the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still and a game-based film called Max Payne. Len had a hot ticket to go back stage, but we both had Studio Guest seats in the front few rows. He had a signing at the DC booth that overlapped with the beginning of the program, which, as it turned out, wasn't a problem. The panel was delayed half an hour.
I got there first to save the seats and got tipped off about what was going to happen when the surprise guest arrived. When Len arrived, I told him to "de-Geek"--take off his cap and take the Bluetooth out of his ear. He grumbled a little and wanted to know what was up. I said "trust me."
To the screams of the audience, the special appearance of Hugh Jackman was announced and he came bounding out onto the stage. He had just flown in from Australia because they had finished principle photography for X-men Origins: Wolverine.
He started out by saying "I know what you are all thinking--he's just too tall to play Wolverine!" This has been a running joke because the 6'3" Jackman is playing a character who is only 5'3" or 5'5" tall, depending on which interview you happen to read. Len told Hugh the first time they met that he feels that Hugh does a great job of "playing short."
The audience went wild as Hugh thanked them for supporting the first 3 X-men movies and how he's grateful to have a career thanks to this character and the fans support of him and then he announced that there was someone in the audience without whom there would be no Wolverine and without whom he, Hugh, would not have a career (how generous is that?): Len Wein. He asked Len to stand up and before we knew it, Hugh was jumping off the stage to shake hands. OMG! Well, I'm proud as can be and can't stop tearing up. It was such a gracious thing to do.
Entertainment Weekly Online and several other online news sources have done a good job covering the moment. As soon as I get ready, I'll have some pictures from back stage after the all too brief appearance. I should have brought the Mac with me, not the PC.
And yes, Hugh Jackman is even more beautiful in person than on screen.
As opposed to have him just sitting there for 5 seconds and say one lineGambit throwing cards??? I thought it was a cameo... Fox is freaking clueless...
Some people clearly like to complain just for the sake of it. They'll never be happy, no matter who's cast or how the movie is made! Get over it! This is a live action movie, it's never going to match the freaking cartoons in every way! If you don't like it, don't see it, just stop ruining the buzz for everyone else. I'm totally stoked, I can't wait to see this film, but I'm getting seriously pee'd off with the complaining, it's making me really start to hate this fandom.
Oh but nooooo, Batman in a ninja outfit means Batman Begins sucked and Peter Parker in a wrestling outfit means that Spider-Man was the worst movie everSome people clearly like to complain just for the sake of it. EMPIRE's REPORT (including their description of Deadpool)
I love Stan and all but how come het gets a cameo in this and not Len Wein who created the main character?Hugh reports to Access Hollywood (on the TV show and in an online story/video) that he still has the facial hair (although a full beard again) because he and Nicole Kidman are doing some reshoots for Australia in a few weeks.
And he also reports that Stan Lee is making a cameo:

That was really nice of him!Great story from Len Wien's wife, who was in the audience with him and reports on her blog what happened when Hugh made his appearance and other stuff from San Diego.

Probably the latter.Who knows what he meant since he's been on vacation for about the last three weeks! He was in St. Tropez, Athens and Dubai before returning to Sydney I think last week. My guess is they finished right before Amsterdam like he originally said, but perhaps what he was referring to at Comic-Con was some stuff that didn't need him since his beard has grown out so he couldn't be filming anything (and he didn't get home until last week) or perhaps he was referring to last-minute producing duties and not filming.
