Why the hate for Wolverine?

He IS the most appealing character in the movies. Halle Berry is a boring Storm. James Marsden makes a decent Cyclops, but I think he works best when he's caught in the Logan, Jean Grey love triangle. Paquin's Rogue is cute but not as sassy as her comic or cartoon version. Iceman can be okay, but nowhere near as cool as Jackman's interpretation of Wolverine. I think the two best movie characters (on the X-Men at least) after Logan were Beast and Nightcrawler, not the regulars.

I guess my question is what do you expect? Jackman does a greate job as Wolverine! Of course people want to see more of him. Wolverine is one of the most popular characters in comic book history. Why hate Jackman for doing one of the best jobs in superhero movie history at transferring a comic book persona to the silver screen? I wonder what some of you expected? Even if Wolverine doesn't lead as much in the comics as he does in the movie (which is debateable, you don't have to be the 'official leader' to command respect) why give more screen time to actors and actresses who don't do as good a job?

If you should hate anyone, it's FOX for rushing the movie and trimming 30 additional minutes of footage that could have enhanced the other characters. It's hard to fit that many characters in a short timespan, and instead of giving everyone, regardless of how interesting they are, the same screentime, they should dish out the best bits to the best actors. Just my opinion on the matter.

well there was no need for him to take Scott's role in the phoenix storyline.

Wolverine is my favorite superhero/comicbook character, but I do agree that in the films he was basically given the leadership role that I knew Cyclops had in the cartoons and in the comics and it actually didnt seem they even gave Marsden a chance to show what he can do with his acting ability, in the moments he was required to act like a leader he did a pretty good job imo. Hugh Jackman is the last person id be mad at though, his portrayal of Wolverine was the best portrayal of a comic book character ive seen in the movies.

I don't think people hate Jackman's Wolverine by any means. Fans are probably just tired of him being pilfered via FOX's marketing tactics, etc. (but that's expected). He's one of the most recognizable X-Men.

I don't hate Wolverine, just the fact that Fox is ****ing him out.

He was one of my favorites on TAS.

Some do snipe at Jackman, which frankly befuddles me to no end. Some view him the same way they view "the diva Berry", which also confuses me.

Wolverine and Storm are the biggest cash cows for the X-men, so when you have to extremely well known A-list actors portyaing them, they are gonna be everywhere.

As for Halle being a boring Storm, FOR THE LAST TIME: BLAME THE TERRIBLE WRITTING.

If anything seeing her get angry all the time is a stark departure from X2 where she did nothing remoting interesting besides fly the goda** plane.

The hate for Wolverine exsist because the whole trilogy was ALL about him.
X1- his intoduction to the X-men
X2- Weapon X plot
X3- his pointless and futile quest for Jean (yawn good thing we haven't seen it before in the other two movies.......oh wait, damn!)

And Wolverine is gonna get his own FREAKIN spinoff. Don't we already know all we need to for him. Jeeze, I love Hugh, and I like Wolverine, but common already. Last time I checked the X-men were a team...

I absolutely loved Wolverine in x-1 and x-2 but the over use of his character in x-3 was sickening. He was out of character and there was a point I couldn't see his face anymore! It felt like every thing about the script was forced to give him more screen time.

yea all that stuff about wolverine being overused in x-3 was something i really agreed with, it shouldve been cyclops killing off Dark Phoenix not Wolverine. If they couldve done anything they shouldve at least let Cyclops live through the entire movie, i was looking forward to him fighting in the battle at alcatraz blasting at some brotherhood members that wouldve been great.

Even James himself said he'd would have loved to have more scenes and one of them was fighting in the battle with the other x-men... so once again, Fox screwed up.

You want to know why people hate wolverine. Because he gets to much screen time. people get tired of him being the main character all the time.

I wonder how the spin-off will do. We had enough, but the none-fans?

Personally, I think it will do well, probably not stellar B.O., but well enough (better than Electra). FOX may well be the second coming of the anti-christ, but they know that despite how fans on sites like this feel about the character, the character has struck a chord with the general non-fanboy movie going crowd. If the general movie going public did not care that much for the character, a solo film would not be in the works.

Can it possibly be worst? :p

I like wolverine in the comics and the X-men movies # 1 and 2...X3 made me dislike him and he is now wolverine some old grumpy uncle at the school and just lost his appeal fromt the previous movies, him taking over the lead in X3 actually did bring out the hate in me and it didn't go away..he still cool in the comics and I loved how he is in Astonishing X-men now.....Hugh Jackman was doing his job...

^^ that pretty much sums up how I feel now. I don't hate Hugh...and I don't hate Logan - he was just overused...too much.

I always saw Wolverine as a side kick with a lot of good solo stories, but in the context of the team he was just the fighter who was really good at fighting.

The third movie made me hate Hughverine, which I call the altered character that we saw, I can only see Hugh Jackman acting like Wolverine now (similar to how Halle berry acts like storm), he doesn't make me believe he is wolverine any more. Unfortunatly I do think the success has gone to hughs head and the fact that he was a producer and how he lied about Cyclops role really makes me step back and reevaluate him. I used to really like him.

I don't think there are many people that hate him, just that everyone is tired of him. He is not the only X man and the movies have made it so that the general public thinks he is. And I think he is the most "appealing" because allot of his cool factor his pretty much just on the surface, the other characters actually have to be developed to be cool.

I even read a thing that said AICN is a site where "Wolverine" fans can vent about the new movie.

I disagree. Wolverine yes, but Storm is everywhere because Halle Barry is the one portraing her, personaly I don't have a big problem with Barry's Storm. Bad writing can ruin a character. Fox doesn't care about the characters just the money.

Well, I sure don't hate Wolverine. Don't understand all the hate myself. I go to all these X-Men fan forums, and they have all these "The Official Storm, Jean, Cyclopse etc threads, but omit Wolverine. But it doesn't matter, he's my second favorite character now, (after Rogue) and was the initial reason why I went to go see X-Men in the theater, because he looked fun to watch. Before that, I never watched the cartoons nor picked up a comic book in my life.

All I know is, everyone I know is a rabid fan of Wolverine, they love him to death, and these people are the general movie going public and X-Men movie fans, and they go to watch X-Men to see Wolverine rip people to shreds. Sorry, but that is the general truth. It's also why Wolverine solo is being made, and that's great. I just wished they'd release an R-Rated version so we can see some blood and gutts and beserker rage he is famous for.

Oh, god...
X1 - Okay, so in X1 Logan was introduced to the X-Men. But so was Rogue. And Magneto, as a villain. Actually, the whole X-team was introduced to the general public who didn´t have any idea of what the X-Men comics and characters were about.
X2 - Weapon X plot?!? There were some flashbacks, yeah, and Logan confronting Stryker, but the plot of the movie was never about Weapon X. That name is not even mentioned. If the story was about Stryker going after Logan to bring back to life the old Weapon X project, thus invading the school to get him, etc, than I would agree with you. But Stryker´s evil mission, (and the plot of the movie), was an enterely different thing.

X3 - I didn´t understand the "futile and pointless quest for Jean". Logan never went after Jean; it was Scott who did it, and suddenly they (everyone of them, not only Logan) had to deal with the Dark Phoenix. He had scenes with her that I found totally meaningful to the story, and Logan´s attraction for Jean was something that started being developed even in X1, so it didn´t come out of the blue. And I always thought the most important plot of X3 was the cure, not Logan going after Jean.

True Rogue and Magneto were also introduced, but no one else had the screentime that Logan did. And check out the final part of the last battle at Liberty Island. Who was it that resucued the X-men, Rogue, and saved the day. Ahuh. It wasn't the experienced field team who does things like that for a living.

As for being intoduced to the general public....um the X-men have been a pop-culture phenom since the mid sixities. Everybody knows the x-men are super heroes who have cool powers. Details may be a little fuzzy, but the public knows.

X2 was about Styker whose list of things to do was: take out mutants, wipe out the school, get back at Xavier, abuse his son, and spend a good hour of the 2 1/2 hour movie teasing Wolverine about secrets of his past.

X3-- I guess the whole scene of, " I came for Jean." and "I love you Jean," and the med lab slab, his rejection of Dark Phoenix, and the final battle don't make my argument look good. In fact Logan had NOTHING to do with the cure subplot. His character was purely there for a confrontation with Jean.

I completly agree. All 3 movies were about no one but WOLVERINE. Just face it. He was the hero in like every scene of every movie exept for one or two.X1 wasnt even about rouge, it was about wolverine rescuing rouge. X2 wasnt about stryker it was about wolverine stoping stryker. X3 wasnt about jean it was about wolverine saving the wrold. In other words everything FOX does with x-men revolvs around wolverine. And thats why so many people hate him (me being one of them) He is over used way to much. People get tired of watching him over and over again. the movie isnt WOLVERINE and the X-MEN so why do they make him the star. I mean he isnt even all that cool hes a low level mutant with claws. In the movie they made him look like superman. His healing factor, way to fast. People are going to get tired of this crap their going to walk in the theater and at the end their going to be like I bet wolverine is going to save the day. People dont want to see that they want to see different plots were only one person saves the day over and over. Come on why cant it be storm, or cyclops or jean. Jeez, it shold have been him dead not jean scott and prof x, if you ask me i rather save 3 people than one.

He´s the main character. Simple as that. Even if it´s a team, he was always supposed to be the main character in the movies. And it was not supposed to change in X3, and it´s not a surprise he´ll get his own spinoff movie.
Plus, I only see hatred on these boards. Not from the general public. It seems that the cool thing these days among fanboys is jump on the "I hate Wolverine" bandwagon. It´s like "you´re not cool, if you like him."
I could care less. I love the character, I love the way Hugh portrayed him, I love that he´s having his own spinoff. Hate him as much as you want, the fact that Wolverine is an amazing character and that it was recognized by the general public is not going to change.

He's miscast (six-foot, handsome, young with HAIR-BANGS. WTF?) and overexposed.

Wolverine was terribly misinterpreted in the final film. He cries, he leads the team, he takes an active role in running the school, he goes on and on about love and makes it obvious...

These kinds of things aren't Wolverine traits. They're not even the traits his character from the first two films had. This is not nearly the same guy who said "Pick one" to "Don't know, or don't care?".
