BvS The Official Zack Snyder Directs Everything Thread - Part 2

I want him to direct JL with Affleck.

But that's obviously not happening. So I want him off.

He's going to stay. That much I think is a given. What he needs to do though is be more receptive to constructive criticism. I hope the fact that George Miller is producing means that he'll have a real voice in JL. Zack is one of those guys who is best left to handle bringing whatever is on the storyboard to life visually. He should never have any part in the actual soul of something because he doesn't understand that it can't all be visuals. I like the guy, I don't think he's M Knight bad or anything but JL has to be a different movie. I enjoyed BVS. I'll see it at least 2 more times in the coming weeks but I get some of the criticisms. To me where he can take a page out of Miller's book is in injecting some fun into the chaos. Mad Max is one of the most fun movies I've ever seen in my life but when you really think about that world it's depressing AF. I would love to see some of that present in JL. We can still tackle the idea of gods among us without it being so dour. Clark can be burdened without moping. Also whoever edited the movie either needs to GTFO or stand up to him and point out where things went awry because in my mind that's the biggest culprit in this film. As I see it one of the largest problems we've got is not having a Feige type. I'm not saying that WB and DC should copy Marvel to the letter but there has to be someone above Snyder on the totem pole who actually can suss out when he's going too far in his departure from the consensus of what a character should be. The Jimmy Olsen bit is unforgivable. There's nothing clever about that. That's insane. Nobody who has any respect for Superman's history does that. I don't hate the guy but he's better served to letting everyone else worry about story, acting etc. and handling just the visuals.

He has the power to burn the whole place down. If there is even a 1% chance that he will direct Justice League, we must treat it as an absolute certainty and do everything in our power to take him out.

Snyder needs to go. He and Deborah Snyder can stay on as producers or executive producers, but we need a new director with a respect for these characters. And, specifically, someone who respects the '90s Animated Series portrayals of these characters, imo.

He needs to leave. I mean I get he loves what he does. But what he does is make very bad superhero movies.

Well said. Though I wouldn't call Watchmen very bad.

If he's staying on as director, he needs someone helping him, that's for sure. Most likely Ben Affleck, I hope. Man, IDK. I liked BvS a lot, but it was not a cohesive film. It really lacked direction... so... I wouldn't mind him staying and helping with the cinematography and action scenes... I don't know.

If this makes bank, will WB really even bother doing anything?

I just want to clarify, I dont dislike Zack Snyder. But Marvel's done a lot of good work never using the same director more than twice.

So bring in some new talent absolutely.

They've only done that because they've been dissatisfied with directors in the past. If they'd gotten the Russos to do Cap 1, the Russos would still be doing Cap 1. If they were satisfied with Joss Whedon's work on AOU, he'd still be doing Infinity War. But he had a falling out with Marvel, and that's why he's out. They have not done a whole lot of good never using the same director more than twice, nor was that something they planned from the beginning. Take off the rose-tinted glasses. Not everything Marvel has done is great just because they've done it. Only having directors twice has nothing to do with the financial or critical success of their films. Their films are simple popcorn summer blockbusters that appeal to the lowest common denominator, such that everyone can enjoy their films simply for their entertainment value (as in, their action and their jokes). That is why their films are successful. Has nothing to do with how many successive movies their directors direct.

That said, Snyder needs to go because he doesn't get the characters. So that's why they need new talent. And, to clarify, it's just Zack and Deborah Snyder who need to go. Everyone else is fine. The actors are fine. Terrio is fine. Junkie and Hans are fine. The Snyders are the problem.

He's just not right for this universe, I love his enthusiasm but he just doesn't get these characters at all. We need someone who can tell a story, not a guy who does things because they look cool.

Ha, thanks. That's fair actually. But while I enjoy Watchmen, it is kind of less a movie in the traditional sense than an experiment about using comic panels as storyboards taken to its breaking point.

I'd say Snyder should be demoted to production designer or on set decorator or even camera man but I'm afraid he'd somehow **** that up. Like him inserting Atlas Shrugged in the background of Bruce's study in Wayne Manor.

Critically panned films that are divisive at best amongsts fans.

Sack Snyder.

Didn't we just have the Sack Snyder thread merged into the Snyder directs everything thread?

And yes, his ass is outta here.

They've got like 10 films and millions of dollars riding on the success of this film and the Justice League. It'd be foolish to leave it in the hands of Snyder when both the films he directed for them was met with a lackluster response.

They've got too much at stake here, if they really wanna compete with Marvel. The reception towards the DcEU really couldn't get much worse at this point, so what have they got to lose?

so they wanted to kill him off as Jimmy but then decided he should be Luthor instead

Jesus christ, Warner Brothers is insane for letting this man do what he wants

I thought his logic that Jesse is somehow too big of an actor to be killed off was particularly insane. If we use Snyder logic the following thoughts happened in order in his head. Hmmm, Jesse should play Jimmy Olsen. No wait we're going to kill him and he's somehow too big of a star to take this role so let's not even bother offering the role to Bryan Cranston a bigger star, better actor, more popular and more suited person to the role so that we don't offend Jesse Eisenberg by giving him too small a role. Jesus Christ. No offense to Jesse who I like and who was not the worst part of the movie but he's not anywhere near the kind of talent that you make decisions like this about. My god.

Oh man. If he did that to Jimmy Olsen for "fun" I wonder what was so brutal about the Jena Malone scene they're saving for an R rated cut

I really like his Dawn of the Dead. Love 300 and Watchmen, and I am a fan of Man of Steel. Hell, I even enjoyed Sucker Punch. I saw BvS today, and he needs to go, and go now. I am dreading Justice League with him at the helm.

I don't think it matters if he stays or goes now unfortunately. He's left his mark on the DCEU. It's still the Snyderverse.
I think their best course of action is to continue Suicide Squad as a standalone franchise if it's good. End the Snyderverse JL films and allow George Miller to do his own standalone JL film series. It would be worth the wait.

They can make the Snyderverse as the world of Injustice, lol. Where everything is terrible.
