Has anyone considred that maybe they're casting for Brainiac?

I'm still putting all my dearest wishes that Brainiac will be in this. Its so unfair that he hasn't gotten the silver screen treatment. He's one of Superman's most memorable villain for goodness sake.

I really hope thats what they've been diligently working on and finding the right actor for the job.

I don't want to see just Zod and Ursa for the love of god. If they're in it I hope Brainiac is involved and not in a half assed way either.

I'm incredibly confident with this production so far but thats my only point of doubt right now.

The villain.

I agree, but myself I'm really more interested in the casting right now... for example if we got Daniel Craig for Luthor and Gerard Butler for Zod, I could put up with that with only a small amount of grumbling.

I was nodding to myself when reading all those queotes from him. This is exactly what I've been saying since SR. The man knows his **** and he knows it well. Combine this knowledge with his love for comics and I'm excited.

Reading this makes me love the guy even more. I just hope he can follow through.

Here's what I said on this subject a while back on the Zod thread:

I'm keepng an open mind about General Zod as the potential villain. To me, it just kinda fits. It can be a very different interpretation of Zod from what we got in Superman II, and with him in the mix.... I can kinda see this film taking shape in my head.

See, Zod is kinda a perfect villain for a new origin movie. He lets you revisit Clark's Kryptonian heritage, and can represent a thematic struggle between Clark the man of Earth and Kal-El the last son of Krypton. Does he want to serve the people of Earth or rule them? This is a young Clark trying to find his place in the world, and Zod can be the devil on his shoulder trying to make him fulfil what he views as his destiny.

But he's also a physical threat. So when Superman inevitably decides to stand against Zod, we can get a superhero smackdown. HOWEVER, having said that, he's a physical threat, but not TOO big a threat. He's an equal match for Superman, not STRONGER than him. He's the ideal foe for an origin movie, because while he poses a threat and has the potential to be very well-performed depending on the actor they choose to play him, ultimately his arc is to serve in the shaping of Superman and helping to make him the hero we all know and love. And it should be perfectly managable to top him with a bigger threat in the sequel, like Brainiac.

I'm kind of hoping that the first trailer will be similar to the one that was released for Star Trek:

Heck, I could even picture clark being in the arctic looking at the vast scenery like that shot of James T Kirk being on the ice planet in that trailer.

I personally think thats one of the best edited trailers of all time.

Its brilliant. I'm also hoping for something very similar to that Lee.

In many ways I'm pretty bummed Abrams never got his shot at Supes. He's quickly shaping up to be Spielberg's true spiritual, directorial successor. The guy has got a mean winning streak and is easily one of the most balanced talents in Hollywood. He just knows how to make a perfect mainstream film that strikes on all chords. As much as I loved Star Trek, its script is a joke. Dialog is trite, plot is thin, and all in all it reads remarkably generic. And somehow, J.J. made a damn golden egg out of crap. That is simply the work of brilliance. I've no doubt this film was a success purely because of his direction.

The only thing I'm worried about is how Zack carries the script. It's really his only weakness, which is why he's several notches below Abrams in my book. He's lacking that crucial talent. Every one of Zack's films is obviously being held back by the screenplay. In spite of his knack for casting great up-and-comers, or his keen sense of visuals, he can never rise above mundane writing. It shines through all the glamour he puts on the screen.

Goyer isn't too bad of a choice, especially since he's working in a genre that is his passion. But as a writer he leaves much to be desired. Sometimes he's got great concepts and ideas, but I feel like he needs collaboration with greater minds to turn in a better product. I'm hoping someone like Jonah and Chris are managing this aspect. I'm not confident in either Zack or David, as single artists, in translating any of sort of script past the satisfactory stage.

If we get Zod, I'd like either Mortensen or Eric Bana.

Couldn't have said it better myself. This is why I wouldn't mind Zod in this film.

That was/is an awesome trailer. But... if they show that much movie in any trailer before the movie actually comes out... I'm changing the channel. And if it's in the theater I'm walking out and coming back when it's over. I do that a lot for the movies I really, really want to see. And when it comes to Superman I'm 10 times worse. I'd rather be teased.

Here's a better quality version of that same awesome trailer.

I love it, but am I the only one who doesn't cream himself over the music used in the trailer? I mean it's great, but people are always going "tehy most uze teh muzic in teh star terk tralrrrr!!!11" whenever trailer editing comes up. I think this piece of music is good, just not that good.

With regards to Zod, if you've read Birthright then you know there's a fake Kryptonian invasion at the end. If you replaced the fake armada with Zod(and maybe Brainiac) it would still work IMO.

JJ's Superman judging from the script was moving very much away from the established canon/mythos. I'm glad he didn't get the job.

Wow the music is probably my favourite part of it, its just EPIC. That trailer made me want to watch the film because I never was really a Star Trek fan (although I loved Wrath of Khan) and that film did not disapoint its probably one of my favourite movies. If the Superman trailer ends up something like that I'll be very happy.

Definitely would work superbly, instead of it been a fake invasion its a real one

I really take issue with anyone hating on Abrams' Star Trek. I can't remember a film where I cared more after an opening scene... EVER. On top of that, the film was well-paced, with an intriguing plot and characters that made you care. Abrams is many things, but more than anything he is a guy who understands audiences in a way we haven't seen since the earlier days of Spielberg.

That said, his FLY BY script had a lot right with it, but for me it was too much of a departure from the mythos/canon. I think you can make a film that's relevant in 2010/2011 and hits audiences without departing from all that makes Superman who he is. I'm hoping with Nolan and Goyer on board Snyder will be steered enough in that direction to get it right.

star trek made me like star trek, when I didn't care about star trek at all before

That was the reaction from a lot of folks in general public. Hence why it did so well and why the anticipation for the sequel next year will be second only to The Dark Knight Rises.

Also that was the reaction from average movie-goers with Batman Begins and Casino Royale.

yeah thats true of me with Bond aswell I'd go as far to say I hated the Bond movies but Casino Royale was the exception and it got me interested.

Yup, Abrams Trek is awesome to me..I never tire of watching it.
I hope I feel the same about snyder's superman down the road.

Admit it......it was the lens flares, right?

:D

definitely

it was so stylish and flashy and colorful it was hard not to like it

it made me go back and watch the original series and I was like hey this isn't half bad. lots of interesting moral predicaments and a great adventure feel. Didn't make it into the second season though, those shows are so damn long, like an hour each at 30 episodes a season.
