You could almost make the argument that Snyder has gotten progressively worse with each film though I haven't seen the owl movie. Dawn of the Dead is imo the best zombie movie out there and his best work. From there it was a downhill slide.
:dry:watchmen is 100 time better than DOTD in every way so no i dont see what your talking about i even like 300 better

You could make that argument, but you'd probably lose. :oldrazz:

Watchmen and 300 are 64% and 60% on RT so it's a matter of opinion. DotD is at 76% and ranked very high on most zombie film lists. Some have it as high as #1. Dawn is held in high regard for it's genre. Watchmen is okay and well below other graphic novel adaptations like Sin City, A History of Violence, or one of my favorites Road to Perdition.

300 was what it was. Tedious but action packed; a nice intro for Zack into Hollywood.

My friend said it best (I haven't read this analougy yet) but Sucker Punch is a Skinamax/Fanboy version of the Muppet Babies. Where characters daydream with no real conscience. For example, my friend said if Baby Piggy stole cookies from the cookie-jar left on the counter, then she (and the rest) would warp into Star Wars mode, fighting hoardes of Storm Troppers and then dueling with Darth Vader, who is guarding the jar.

I haven't seen Sucker Punch, the Editor In Chief of our website saw it and enjoyed it. I personally think it looks horrible. It's going to be terrible at the box office obviously, as I have said before. Also, critics are ripping it.

Snyder needs Superman, and he needs it to do well and be well received.

On the bright side, that much needed fire that is now right at Snyder's ass could push him to deliver something far beyond what we've known him to be capable of. Nolan/Goyer, realistic filming style, entirely new production crew, and enormous pressure to revitalize the franchise as well as his career. There's a lot of new variables introduced here that should keep everyone on their toes. It's actually nice that they won't be too comfortable during the making of this film.

BTW Show, where is your avatar from?

If I remember correctly, the actual artwork is from a comicbook artist that used to post on these boards. I had somebody add the laser eyes and animate it.

I hope Snyder uses a little of his "camera style". There was alot of his distinct style in the beginning of Sucker Punch. The extreme close-ups and stuff. A little of that in Superman could be pretty great... a close up on Superman's face as he gets angry, letting you see the emotion play out, with his eyes slowly blazing red.

thic could be true.

If the actor, Henry, can act sufficiently you don't need all that gimmickry to show emotion. Genuine emotion.

I don't care too much about what Snyder needs. I'm more concerned about whether Superman needs Snyder.

I think red eyes can either make the scene better or worse depending on Cavil's delivery. It can come off as either really cheesy or a memorable badass moment.

I pray Zack keeps Larry Fong (best cinematographer in Hollywood, imo) and William Hoy (amazing editor) for Man of Steel.

I've said this elsewhere, but I'd kinda' rather see "Zack Snyder's Superman", than "(whoever else's) Superman - Featuring Zack Snyder", which is kind of what this is shaping out to be with Nolan/Goyer behind it et al. If Snyder really is going to to try and adjust his style/sensibilities away from what he's been doing, I almost feel it's better to go with a director whose style is more up that alley to begin with. Otherwise, just let Snyder do what he feels he does best. It might crash and burn, but at least it'll make some wild noises and explosions while doing it. :O

there are a number of really cool things htat Snyder does in his films that I'd very much like to see with Superman...it's just gluing all the pieces together into a good film with good storytelling that needs work. But if that's the case, maybe it's better to work on giving Snyder's style and approach better storytelling, etc., than to adjust/change his strongest assets to fit something else.

But maybe it will already be a great story to begin with, and Snyder will just bring some more visual impact to it....albeit in a more 'realistic' setting than he's ever done before, and so on.

That's my opinion too, Snyder needs Superman more than Superman needs him. Snyder has quickly shown he's not evolving as a director and to me anyway that's a huge issue. I've never been comfortable with Snyder at the helm because he's failed to produce anything of significant substance, visually fantastic at times yes, but overall there's nothing really beyond that, there's nothing gripping about the films that requires multiples viewing, no great character arcs with deep exploration, just over stylized visuals with little imprinting story. I would have preferred Duncan Jones because I think he's got far more potential to produce a quality film, something Snyder as failed to accomplish to date.

^disagree big time i feel watchmen had everything you mentioned sndyer so called lacks

and not our fault duncan ran off cause he got scared

I like Duncan, but even he admitted he wasn't ready to handle the scope that a great Superman film would require. I'd be in full confidence he could deliver a quality written Superman story, but not necessarily one that is fitting for a big-budget movie. Ditto for Affleck.

Ideally, I would've rather had Abrams tackle a Nolan/Goyer story, but Snyder holds his own with the camera. Keep him off the script and I think we'll be fine.

No No No.... Sucker Punch has shown you can not give Snyder too much liberty . I trust the guy who done The Dark Knight over the guy who has done Sucker Punch & 300.

Now one can argue that you should have given the film to a director you fully trust but that;s out the window . I don't need Superman turning into a 2 hr music video.

Obviously this maybe Snyder's last chance because if Superman bombs after Sucker Punch than he will not be given a big budget film so quickly

Well, again....I'd rather have a 2-hr music video by someone who wants to make a 2-hr music video....than a 2-hr movie by someone who'd rather make a 2-hr music video. :O

Let's just hope it doesn't come down to the director doing a piece that's not 'him', and having it bite the movie in the bum.

Out of curiosity had you read Watchmen prior to seeing the film?

It's kind of funny how when trailers for Sucker Punch came out, there was some talk of "It looks bad-ass...Superman is finally gonna kick some major ass...", et al. But now it's like "Keep him under control", "Put away the CGI..", etc.. :O
