The Oval Is Back!!!

codpeice.........:wow:

i hope he gets his trunks back.

also not sure about the lines, they look a bit retro to me.

The armoured cod-piece is... odd. I guess I'll have to wait andf see if it's more odd or less odd than just the belt floating around the hips. I think a harness around the crotch would have been a better solution.[/QUOTE]

Agreed, a harness makes sense.
Impromptu rappeling, zip-line, etc... fits.

Cod-piece coming down from the belt, seems.. well odd.
But you know what, over-all as the leader/CEO (in a way) of this new Batmen franchise they're shooting for, I think he looks the part.

It gives Batman a commander/authoritarian look... and makes him stand out from the rest.
Especially if Dick's still gonna be rockin' the Quietley suit that's very natural and fabric-like with the seams and everything.

Agree about the authoritarian look. We should also be thankful the 2nd bat emblem wasn't put on the codpiece instead. :woot:

Oh and 1 more thing...
1995: Bat nipples
2010: Codpiece

I prefer the black bat by itself, but it's been ten years since Batman wore the oval so it's cool to see it back. I suspected it would be coming back with Morrison's "Batman Inc," as it represents a more traditional brand icon, fitting Morrison's "Corporate Batman" approach. I wish the trunks (or a harness, or something) were still there. Armoured gloves I could take or leave. Don't like the belt buckle.

As with most Batman "redesigns," it's hardly different at all. Certainly not different enough to complain about, unless one's complaint is that they missed an opportunity to do something really different.
My thoughts as well. I do hope the yellow oval doesnt stay for long though.
I love the oval. Not only does it work as a target for armed bad guys to shoot at, rather than Batman's head, it also acts as a scarring image to the average criminal. Pretend you're a common thief in Gotham City, you just robbed a liquor store, and you're on the run. It's dark and you go into an alley to avoid seeing any police. All of a sudden, a huge, dark shape just drops down in front of you. The monster extends its wings and all you can make out is a yellow oval with a bat inside and you know it's the Batman.

The bright yellow up against the deep black gives a harsh contrast and the yellow has the blinding light of a million suns. While the Batman beats you mercilessly, all you can see is that same oval. It's the last thing you see before you go unconscious, it's the first thing you remember when you wake up, and it's the last thing you think about before going to sleep in your prison cell. The constant haunting of the oval stays with you for the rest of your life, because you know you came face to face with the Batman.
A monster with a cheesy yellow emblem on its chest? Yeah that's scary.... :o
if they wanted to go trunkless it would've been better if it was all black.
Should've made the suit all black
It works in the movies but its too plain when its drawn on a piece of paper. They tried that after Knightfall when Batman got a Burtonesque suit, but like i said it didnt look good and they soon got rid of it.
Of course it would work. The Black Panther has been wearing all black since the dawn of time and it works just fine. Cyclops has been wearing all black for several years, and really, it's probably his best look to date. Spider-Man wore an all-black costume and everybody loved it.

I perfectly understand if one prefers black and grey (I do), but it's simply fallacious to claim that all black "doesn't work visually" in comics. No, the problem with post-Kngithfall costume was that it wasn't coloured like an all-black costume; the cape and cowl were almost always coloured with blue highlights and the the bodysuit was always coloured with black highlights, making the cape and cowl appear dark blue and the body appear dark grey.

Coloured correctly, an all black costume would work fine, especially with more modern colouring techniques. I suppose some more detail might be added to the costume for flavour, also.
Good point, but maybe we just used to Batman looking more colourful and interesting.

- Seams and pads for no reason? That is awesome!
Unfortunately, the raised oval emblem, trunkless pants, and bat-logo'd belt buckle reminds me of this :csad::
Yeah, what's up with that? :cmad:
That Kubert version is awful. Seams on the suit is a good idea, but in that image they looked ******ed--colouring them blue is not good. The bat-buckle is still a bad idea (really, he's got the same icon two feet above his waist, so there's no need for it on the belt), and the gloves and boots like like somebody just threw some miscellaneous junk on top. The other images of the suit look okay because the artists downplayed all the weird detailing, but in that Kubert image it's just terrible.
It looks like a track suit with a 2 ton chest logo and some pads.

Yeah. Part of the problem is that the suit is drawn skintight around the body, but then the artist gets to the crotch and wants to draw it a little more loose (for obvious reasons). The result is that the bodysuit looks weird. Then there's the problem of there just being too much grey (if they wanted to ditch the trunks, they should have gone with an all-black (or very dark grey) bodysuit. The ugly belt doesn't help.
I remember a pic with Grant's batsuit suggestions for Dick's batsuit and there is a note "make belt more modern. Like the movies perhaps." I always hated the low tech tool belt, and love Dick's, so i always wanted something better for Bruce like Grant suggested. I just cant believe they gave Bruce the Schumacher belt. :cmad:

Exactly, because all those details that Finch added are really ghastly.

I'm not sure what "pads" you think you're seeing.

The things on his gloves, whatever they are.

I'm not sure if I would call them plates or braces, but certainly not "pads." In any case, they are ridiculous looking in that image. Fortunately they look better in the other material, but they don't really add much.

They are unnecessary and ugly, but hey, at least Finch isnt responsible for Catgirl.

Can I just make another call for a return of the yellow oval (one of the most iconic pieces of modern graphic design - as recognisable as the Coca-Cola or McDonalds logo - yet never seen in the Batman comics these days) and his trunks.

I just don't like Jim Lee's redesigned costumes for Batman or Superman.
