Recently went through some of the random images on my camera card...

Local lane near the house

Bro has been using my camera a bit to get some shots for a small film thing he's using and he's allowed me to post these two images....

Alistair,

I am really considering getting that flash starter kit that has the umbrellas and tripods, etc.

If I get for instance, the Canon 280Ex or 580 EX II Litespeed flash and mount it wireless, how is the flash triggered? Is it triggered with a separate triggering device or can it go off by a timer on my camera?

What I really plan to do with it is possibly shoot some small community events, definitely family photos and portraits, take it outside when I go to a park, and also possibly mount it on my camera when I want to shoot video.

Midnyte,

Sorry for the late response, forgot about this thread and been busy along with being sick last few weeks.

At any rate you have to use a transmitter and a receiver. Just have to wait your camera's sync speed, tho. Or you'll get the infamous "Black Bars" on top of your shots. Or you can use it when it senses "light" and the other guns will fire, but it's less reliable if you have other light to set it off. Say, as your AF focus light.

Evil,

Nice work as always, really, man.

Dr. Lee,

With that first shot your brother took, I would loved to have a model in there and a few strobes. Oh, man...goodness right there, FYI.

I'm starting to get braver with light since it's all starting to click, and be consistent. I'm going try to do a model shoot soon, if I can ever get ahold of them to experiment a little since my wife isn't very willing.

Here is a few shots I've done as of late (Don't worry I had their permission!):

(2nd kid attempt that wasn't my own) The rest I did the day before Thanksgiving.

To this day, it's the most beautiful/badass looking batmobile.

Taken at the Apple Store in San Francisco, the day after Steve Jobs died.

Heya guys,

Since it's been inactive here lately, and I got to proccessing a few for Christmas I thought I would put some up. Still working on the maternity pictures, which I'm not to happy with right now but it was my first attempt, and she is happy. I'm learning at any rate and ALOT.

Just start to get hang of three lights, which of the little girl in the dress shows. The rest, shot using one light once again. Still using Off Camera flash for all of these.

Dr. Lee,

Thanks. I really like the 3rd one, IMO. Did ya shoot these on Manual? Just curious.

yeah.... manual focus on various shutter speeds, though i forget what they were for each photo lol

Dr. Lee,

Are ya using AF points? It's hard to focus unless your in live view (I hate this mode, but it does have it's uses due to shutter delay) for it seems a little soft, IMO. It could be due to the compression. I meant manual as in your ISO, F-Stop, and shutter.

Midnyte_Sun,

Nice capture on the steam. I really need to try gelling a flashgun and try doing some smoke or water drops again.

No flash gun required for that last shot. That is all natural sunlight my friend :)

I only use manual focus. The London Eye shot was a tricky one to get as I was in my wheelchair at the time, and that wall was actually higher than me, which is why the camera was rested on the wall

Took this panorama (I was in Amsterdam at the time) with my iPhone using the Autostitch app. Usually they have a lot of ghosting and mis-alignment, but I thought this one turned out quite well.

Midnyte_Sun,

I figured it was ambient light.

Dr. Lee,

Nice. Yes, things can be tricky like the following photo's I'm showing. I had almost no room, and stupid crop sensor camera with no real wide angle lens as of yet. Ugh.

ttotheusher,

Nice stitch!

The only thing that annoyed me was that dang background. I tried to use a larger f-stop, but no real success since I was in a really, really small space. Most of the time I was pushed up against the dining room table. This was my first maternity shoot as well, and some co workers that I've known their whole family due to work. Funny enough.

Midnyte,

Me? I didn't have a lot of room, only about 2 feet from the background, and I was already slammed up against a kitchen table. So I did the best as I could.

Turned out great anyways! I took a picture tonight and I just couldn't get close enough ... you can see why:

Astrophotography! Awesome!

I've recently moved to a university near a coast. I hope to take pictures of the sunrises and sunsets along the beaches.

I also traded my Nikon 70-300mm and 35-85mm G lenses. They were crap quality and I'm glad I traded them for the 75-300mm lens (with aperture ring).

Great shots TUE! I liked especially the 3rd one. He looks very content for his later years :)

Very cool, what do you use for mid-range?

BTW, I used the Canon USM EF 70-300mm for that moon photo and again, I forgot to take off my UV Filter. Using it doesn't really hurt the image quality that much, even for night shots..that is with a f stop of 16, -5 step Exposure and 1/400 shutter speed.

I originally used the Nikon Series E manual lenses. They were far sharper than any zoom lens I bought after that. But now I have a Nikon AF 28-105 zoom lens that does very well compared to that crappy G lens I had.

The only real reason to keep the UV filter on is to protect your lens from dust and damage. It slows down the exposure by a very small, negligable fraction of a second.

Funny you say that...I've had it on since i was in the deserts of Arizona, lol. Just like you described, it really does not effect the picture quality that much.
