The Piracy Threat...?

Go to their website, and listen to a clip. Check to see if MTV has a clip. Go to Target, Wal-mart, Best Buy and about 30 others that allow you to listen to cuts from the CD simply by running the barcode under a scanner....theres all kinds of ways to listen to a group without breaking the law. Damn, use some imagination....lol

also almost every major radio station has a website with the whole On Demand feature.....you can search for videos or clips of songs....

Movies i will never ever download, because the quality does suck, and like a lot of other people, I like dvd cases. I have no idea why.

Music is a different story.

I will download rap music, moslty because i don't listen to it that much, and because the CD's they usualy put out have 1 or 2 good songs on it, and the rest is garbage, and its like 16 bucks.

I downloaded the leak of My Chemical Romances Black Parade because, i liked MCR's first CD, the second one was good to, but they were getting more mainstream, then Black Parade was horrible. I would have wasted my money on that crap.

Its raisins like that i download only some music.

Radioland here in Canada has freaking cd players on the walls...you can stand there and listen to an entire album if you want....if the album isn't on that particular player you simply ask the cashier to put it in for you.....isn't that common practice in the States as well?.....I burn it to see if I'd want to buy it is a bull**** excuse

Wow, you're cool....

Not really. Just a twisted old man who doesn't give a damn about much of anything.

so people being out of work due to that is OK with you? yes you are cool

Pretty much. Downtown Atlanta you find quite a few people walking the streets with no jobs. You expect me care about all of them? I personally got better things to do, and hell, even if I did care, I can't do much for 'em.

You make a good point. No way in hell I'd buy a bad album that contains one single good song. Agree with you on the movie part.

Sorry, but you don't sound like an "old man"....you sound like one of my kids in class trying to sound cool in front of his classmates......you may be an old man, but it just doesn't seem like it with your posts on this subject.

we have a similar thing where there is a little box with a scanner and you scan the CD and some of it will play.....

When a record labels cd sales drop dramatically in a 3 or 4 year span due to downloading/cd burning jobs get cut....Universal music cut about 2,000 jobs due to that

Well,...(hate to do this)Universal isnt one of the big four so..really dont care
Take that into consideration when your faced with this 14% sales loss number that keeps gettin thrown around.
A 14% loss due to piracy?Cry me a river, dive in and drown
Also, remember that the Entertainment industry never takes a hit during a recession

I know how you feel, I use to be an idealist too. Things change and lives fall to ruin. I use to be cool, now I'm just a smelly old fat guy sitting behind a chair typing on the computer because his life sucks so he longer cares about much of anything. Trust me, it ain't cool.

agreed....people want their entertainment no matter what....I remember when I worked in Gamestop a few years ago, this guy paid for a PS one game in pocket change....I felt bad, wanted to tell him to go buy some groceries or something.

i think there should be some legal way to get stuff cheap but it aint ever gonna happen

Story wasnt funny the first time you told it

its not meant to be funny at all....I genuinely felt wrong taking the guys money....people want their movies and their video games even if it means spending their last dollar to get it....

The only reason all these individual corporations havent jumped on the netflix/Itunes style bandwagon is because they refuse to release their stranglehold on certain aspects of the market.
Most notably the licensing and marketing side of the business

What an idiot. Who spends that last money on video games and movies when you need food...

I was jokin :oldrazz:
At least you know Im paying attention

thank you. I've wasted so much money on CD's just to get one song. It's ridiculous.

I ahte downloaded music off of iTunes as well. I like to actually have a CD Case in my hand. Plus their is the Album art, and lyrics and stuff. Just like DVD's, i have no idea why i like them so much.

and now that DVD sales are such a big factor in a movies' financial success because of the 3-4 month turnaround from theatrical release to DVD release...the MPAA and the studios are leading the anti-piracy charge

Theres also plenty of examples(Like Ridley Scotts Kingdom of Heaven)Where DVD sales exceeded theatrical release
