Well to start this off, Mods, if this is off topic or considered trolling, or whatever lock it down. Do so knowing that I'm starting this with no other purpose other than to toss an idea on the table I couldn't figure to put anywhere else.

I was going over the cast list for Nolan's new movie Inception, and something struck me, (now mind that I am aware Nolan tends to be fond of recasting actors he has worked with), the cast could fit perfectly for a third Batman. To top that off we have no real idea as to what the movie is going to be about, and of all the directors in Hollywood, Chris Nolan would definitely be one of the ones to try and pull a fast one on us. The way I see it, and forgive me for misspelling, but Leonardo DiCaprio could very well be Black Mask, Ellen Page I could see as a fit for a Harley Quinn type character, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt well while he looks like Heath a tad and is a great actor could very well be the next actor to fill the Joker's shoes or be Ridldler instead. Then you have Cillian Murphy and Michael Caine returning as well as Marion Cotillard on who has since become a favorite for Catwoman.

All that I am saying is you should never rule anything out as entirely impossible no matter how implausible it may be. Let me get some feedback, if you think I'm just a windbag you need not reply, unless you have something extremely entertaining we can all get a laugh out of :applaud. So to end it all, what if Inception were just a falsified title for the next Nolan Batman movie?

Chris Nolan does have a tendency to code-name his scripts, so it very well could be, although I doubt it is. That seems like a hefty group of A-List stars to suddenly toss into an already-established group.

Definitely can't rule it out though.

I agree the only reason I though of it is, with the success of The Dark Knight, and it's role as the first superhero movie to be taken seriously by Hollywood you would think that you could get quite a few of the best actors to be interested in jumping on board the franchise.

Fanboy wishing. I find it amusing that the fans so frequently see secret plots in the production of their favourite movies. For example, there were people who believed that Michael Anthony Hall was actually playing the Joker--and that Heath was just a decoy. I got a good laugh out of that.

Don't know why people want Inception to be secretly Batman 3, anyway. Wouldn't you rather have a sci-fi movie directed by Nolan and Batman 3? Instead of just Batman 3?

I would be pissed to learn I wasn't getting an epic sci-fi Nolan movie.

Oh no I definitely want both, Nolan's non Batman films are some of my favorite for all time such as Memento and The Prestige. It has nothing to do with me having a desire for what I thought to be true, I just thought it was an interesting notion, so I decided to share it. So while I have no argument for what you expressed I am just stating that I don't fall in to that fanboy category while at the same time I can't refute that I am in fact a fanboy.

Agreed. I need sci-fi like I need oxygen, so Nolan + Sci-fi seems a clear winner. The Prestige was really science fiction, too, and I loved The Presitge to death.

To clarify, I didn't mean "fanboy" in a denigrating way. Everyone here is a fanboy, whether they believe it or not, and I don't consider is an insult.

Haha, good deal Saint, I was just clarifying about my thoughts and my desires, and how they didn't match up, I didn't think you were trying to insult.

but.. wait.. Inception isn't supposed to be BIG, right?

I really want Inception to be Batman III, guys because it would sound as a good idea, but If it was a sci-fi movie I would also be really happy

but it is going to be a sci-fi movie..

Joseph Gordon Levitt would be a great Batman villain in general

The idea of Leonardo Dicaprio is alos an interesting choice as well .

If either of those two were villains in the next movie it would be awsome imo

All star cast, sci-fi genre, Nolan directing, probably not meant to be big, but I'm betting it will be, I can't recall there being so much early excitement and buzz for a film that wasn't either a sequel, reboot or a pre-exisiting franchise in some other medium.

Also take my word that when WB feels overjoyed with the immense success of a director they will definitely grant Nolan a big enough budget that covers Nolan's entire vision of his "..contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind".

I'm pretty sure this project is real and not just a cover for BM3. As others have mentioned why not have "Inception" and the third installment of Nolan's Batman series.

I totally agree craigdbfan, I think that we will have both and I am super excited to see where Nolan would go with a scifi based movie, considering everything else he has done thus far has been pretty spectacular. That being said, I think if he used the same cast from Inception for a third installment of the bat franchise it wouldn't be a miss.

Please, for the love of God, close this thread!!!

Lol if this sticks Greg is gonna be mad.

HAHAHAHA!!!!!!

I posted this SAME EXACT IDEA 3 weeks ago and it was closed in 5 seconds. Literally... I posted it and refreshed the page and it was already closed!!!!!

haha! I don't care who gets credit for the idea for the new thread. I was only interested in the discussion it would conjure up. Any ways, I'm glad someone was able to post this idea and NOT have it get closed down. I guess the mods understand now the idea actually was WORTHWHILE since more than one person now has come up with it.

Yes, I too saw the cast list for Inception and thought "Wow.. Cillian Murphy, a Michael Caine cameo, etc."... and since Nolan codenames a lot of his scripts, I thought "what if" Inception was really Batman 3 in disguise... with Bale, Caine, and Oldman signed for three films... who would Dicaprio be if this Inception was really code for Batman 3? What would the story be? And the Scarecrow is obviously back... what would his role be??? That was the gist of my original post... it was a "What if Inception is codename for Batman 3???". Obviously, Inception is NOT Batman 3, but since there's zero news on Batman 3 right now... I thought the original thread would be fun to play with and provide some spark to this board, which used to be extremely popular, but now it's kinda died since there's no Batman 3 news and Iron Man 2 is getting all the hype.

Any ways, thank you Hiddensymbols for showing I'm not a complete idiot and other people have thought of Inception as "what if this is code for batman 3".... and now let the discussion continue...

Greg

To add to the discussion:

If Inception was Batman 3... I would be very excited by the thought that the Scarecrow was coming back in a big way. I like the idea of one villain tying together an entire trilogy (ala Magneto in X-men)... obviously Marion would be Catwoman. I can't see any other possibility. As for Dicaprio... wow I have no idea. That would be odd casting just like how Ledger was originally considered offbeat casting for the Joker. but wow! what a cast that would be for a Batman film. Dicaprio is an excellent actor, one of the best of his generation. Adding his name to a cast increases its rep big time, I think. I suppose he could be the Riddler... but Dicaprio is still "boyish" in looks and I can't picture him as looking like the Riddler, but he would have the intensity of him (see his last movie, Revolutionary Road... his character has screaming fits throughout the film). I think Dicaprio as a Batman villain would give Batman 3 a huge amount of hype, enough to rival Ledger's pre-release hype.

Yea I dont see why this is still open, but since it still is, Ill comment..

Love this cast, with the exception of Bale, Oldman, and Freeman arent there. I am really excited to see a sci-fi film from Nolan, and if this is BB3, I think it is too early to start with it. I really like the releases being 3 years apart instead of rushing them out 2 years later ala Transformers & IronMan. So if this was BB3 it would proably be released next summer, and as odd as it sounds, I prefer it least to wait another year..

Yea i agree...it's good for the creative process in general to take a step back (i.e. Nolan and Co.) and make new innovative films while still brain-storming for a third batman film. The time gap between the films' releases is somewhat fundamental to its success in so far as what has been evident in films that are rushed by studio execs. Fortunately, WB has given the nolans and goyer virtually no studio interference which means they value the nature of these films. Either way, i'm intrigued with Inception.

Forgot to mention as this is more in relation to the thread topic so sorry about the last post...inception by definition is a beginning, or a conception of something, and while i'm aware that there is always a possibility that nolan is being deceptive, i really doubt it. Nolan has put a lot into reimagining the batman and i just don't think he would risk his success and tenure with this franchise by essentially rushing a third film.

I think Nolan making Inception will definitely be beneficial to Batman 3. It's always good to take a break instead of rushing into things.
