Sure, Michael Caine does a magic trick with a bird and a cage.

There was a little more after that. Something that'll make you go hmmmmmm.
(like the entire movie!)

You know someone should do a movie about Telsa....he was a very unique man that hated Edison.

A couple things:

1) David Bowie was amazing.

2) Great movie, best of the year.

3) Can someone explain the ending to me
In spoiler form?

It made $5m opening day, i was almost right.

So, it will make about $16-18m opening weekend.

wow...SHH member reviews are going better than I expected...even over at IMDB its sounding pretty positive, and the RT ratings are great. I wanted see this yesterday but got caught up and others that wanted to go with me were like..."oh that opened today? I thought it was next week."
So...hopefully Sunday night...or a matinee next week.

THE RONNY SHADE REVIEW OF
THE PRESTIGE:

------------------------------------------------------------------

Meh.

Wow, Flags Of Our Fathers is having its ass handed to it by The Prestige (www.boxofficemojo.com), and most analysts thought FOOF was going to lead the weekend. TP is opening according to predictions.

I gonna try and catch this movie tonight, sounds too good to pass up.

Wow! The Prestige was a wonderful experience. I can't wait to see it again. I completely lost myself in the rivalry of the 2 main characters and Bowie really stood out as Tesla.

I curse everyone who saw this movie.

The Prestige wan't as good as I had hoped...Without ever reading the book and if you paid close enough attention the ending is predictable.

The Prestige- First off, let me start off by saying that this movie is confusing as hell. The entire time I was watching this film, I was mostly thinking to myself "WTF?!" But in truth, I ABSOLUTELY loved this flick. It has action, suspense, romance, and just about everything. I had a hard time piecing together some of the things going on in the film, but the final twist of the movie will solve it all for you, as it did with me. Now my jaw just about dropped when I saw some of these magic tricks, but that final twist was like :wow: even though most people (including myself) saw it coming. The performances in this film were beyond glorious, especially Hugh "Wolverine" Jackman's as the obsessive Robert Angier, and Christian "Batman" Bale as the tricky Alfred Borden. Michael "Alfred" Caine was fantastic as Cutter, the man who builds Angier and Borden's equipment and machines for their marvelous magic tricks. Of course, the film features great performances from the likes of Andy Serkis, Scarlett Johannson, David Bowie, Rebecca Hall, and Piper Perabo. The film was excellentry directed by Christopher Nolan and was written fantastically by Chris and his brother Johnathon.

In the end, "The Prestige" manages to be a VERY decent popcorn flick, and just a good flick over all. If you like magic and the WONDERFUL cast, you will definetly enjoy the 2 hour, 15 minute film. My final two words to describe it are "Emotionally Amazing". -10/10

1. Pretty sure you got this one, but Christian Bale has a twin. They just lived their lives as one person.

2. The machine Tesla created didn't just transport hugh Jackman, it created another one (remember the scene with all the tophats in a pile). So everytime he used it he would create a copy of himself. So everythime he used it, the trap door would open and one of the copies would fall into the water chamber below and drown, while the other finished the act like nothing happened. At the end of teh performance, he would hide the body in that theater of his. That's why whne Christian Bale saw him die (and was charged with his murder) another Jackman was still alive. At the end, Bale killed the only Jackman left. Hope this clears it up.

Also, I was extremely humored by the idea of a gangsta Edison sending his lackeys after Tesla. I so want to see a sequel starring badass Edison.

^ Thanks for posting that little summary. I have two more questions now, if someone doesn't mind answering them:

The Jackman that Bale kills at the very end of the movie, was that the original Jackman or was it just another clone of him?

On another topic, did Michael Caine's character know about Bale being a twin throughout the entire movie or not?

I was surprised that people found it confusing, but yeah, now that i see they found that ending confusing they would have NEVER got the ending used in the book, with the ghosts and the dead twins and all that. Still a great movie, it reminded me alot of Memento...

awsome movie. really well made, preformed, and thought out. i loved it.

1. They never actually state it in teh movie if it's the original or the copy that is transported. Jackamn even says something like "it took a lot of courage to go in there every night not knowing if I was going to be the drowned or not". So we never know, but since they are exactly the same, I gues it doesn't really matter.

2. I'm actually not sure. Obviously he knows at the end. IMO he didn't know, but since he knew how great of a magician he really was, he wasn't too shocked to find out.

story time :)

throughout last year i was awaiting one movie . X-men 3 i went to the forums every day. i defended that movie to the grave against people saying it wouldnt be great. i saw the movie. utter dissapointment. I then still had hope for Superman Returns and Pirates 2 but around this time a trailer came out for christopher nolans new movie The Prestige. It looked interesting and unique and i had full faith since batman begins is probably in my top 5 movies. Anyway Superman Returns played out like a washed out epic and Pirates 2 was great but something was missing. Nothing blew me away it was the first summer that every movie i waited for was a dissapointment in some form. Then i saw the Prestige last night.

10/10

:D

Woah. Best movie of the year hands down. Blew me away in ways i never thought a movie could. It reminded me of an 1800's version of fight club in the terms of how the movie made you think. The movie is so well made and has made nolan my favourite director.

see this movie. you wont be dissapointed.

i hope it is nominated for best picture along with nolan for best director.

Let me just tell you that nothing is how it seems until the last minute.

my top 5 now consits of

spiderman 2 (spider-mans my hero so its got to be there)
batman begins and the prestige are pretty equal.
x-men 2
and harry potter and the goblet of fire which is brilliant i think.

as you can see i like my superhero movies ALOT. and the fact that the prestige stands with them in my books is about the highest honor i can give it.

1. its a duplicate. the first time he did the trick the original was killed in the tank. the next night it was the dupicate that was killed and the next night it was the new duplicate and so on and so forth. he would never have any idea if he was going to be in the tank or the one who appears on the stage because the duplicate never has memories of the one who came before him drowing, so the cycle repeats over and over and the new duplicate will never know the outcome of the trick because of course the duplicate would believe he is the original. It was symbolic to show that jackman was so obsessed with finding out bales secret that he did terrible things, spent millions, traveled half way around the world and in the end killed himself 100 times just to duplicate bale and all along bale just had a twin. its also symbolic to show that jackmans obsession with discovering the trick has totally changed him. At the begining of the movie he says that he doesnt want to kill doves because he does not believe the trick is worth somethings life. In the end he kills himself each night just to duplicate bales trick. It shows that he loses his fear to "get his hands dirty" in other words he loses his innocence. I believe the final scene of the movie shows the original jackman dead in the tank. Hes really been dead since the first time he did the trick. he died when he decided that a trick was worth somethings life, in this case, his. i hope that helps

i believe he did because hugh jackman says cutter knew all along but i just thot it was to simple i didnt believe him. we have to remember that cutter was working with bale against jackman for quite a while. remember that bale made jackman believe that he was using the machine for his trick and cutter helped him. cutter told jackman to go to the science convention so he would see bale looking at the machine. then when jackman a machine shooting electricity in bales show assumed the machine was involved in the trick even though it really wasnt doing anything. then when bale gave him the code which was the scientists name it only made jackman sure that he was right. cutter and bale worked against jackman

I just saw The Prestige and it was by far the best movie of the year imo. 10/10. Not only did it inspire me to have more faith in TDK, but
Not to take any **** from magicians

:o

When Jackman told Serkis to make him a machine, Serkis replies with, "Why build the same machine already built for another magician? Or something along those lines.

Does that mean Bale had a machine too? If that's the case, is Bale's twin just a clone?
