Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The RATINGS Thread

That's a huge jump!

Watching live is best, but the Live+7 numbers are great, and at least they count my viewing in that number.

it's a packed night tonight. Hope it can weather the storm.

It's dropping pretty hard in the overnights, but the jumps are high in the Live+.

I think if it stays in the SHIELD numbers, it'll be okay.

That said, Tuesday nights are pretty tough too, now with Justified back as well.

The point by many on Twitter is that its ratings are about equal with FLASH, but AC is seen as struggling, while Flash is thriving. Also, possibly the downfall of female led Marvel projects.

*sighhhhhhhhhhh*

As long as they get to complete this season, I'm okay. I need every single episode.

I just don't want to think negative thoughts. This show doesn't deserve them.

Any chance Netflix might pick this show up?

I'd guess that's a strong possibility.

The numbers aren't great, but would reruns during hiatus be any better? It's worth keeping in mind how you would replace it. The only other option is spreading out Agents of SHIELD again with more breaks. I'm not sure ABC wants that. That would help them get a second limited-run season.

ABC aired a new episode of Shark Tank as a lead in for episode 3.
For last nights episode, they aired a rerun of Shark Tank.
I think that was a mistake.

Frankly I'm rather hoping that Marvel just mothballs it's network TV programs and shifts everything over to Netflix. AoS can probably be even better over there and AC can work there as well.

That's kind of what I was thinking. Carter might be given a bit more leeway because with it being a limited series to 'fill in' while AOS is on break during the winter months, I don't think they were expecting real huge numbers. I think no matter what they'll probably stick with AOS having a solid Winter break like they did this year and like Once Upon a Time has been doing the past couple seasons. Since I think it's worth it to have the second half of the season run pretty much straight through with few to no breaks. If AC doesn't get renewed that would mean either AOS repeats or some other limited series or something that ABC wants to try out filling in.

I think if Carter ends it's run averaging around a 1.4-1.5 or so, chances might be good for it getting a 2nd season (again, filling in when AOS is on Winter break).... of course, that's also assuming AOS gets renewed too (I'm an optimist though, so :oldrazz:). That's just all my opinion though and of course, I could be proven wrong in one way or another.

(apologies if none of that made any sense)

Disappointing that "Agent Carter' is not doing better, as it is quite excellent. But these ratings only serve to highlight what has always been my wish. While "AC" is great, I'd rather it be close-ended and have a new Marvel show every winter (and summer) hiatus. These ratings are just good enough to try something different in the slot next year but not good enough to renew Peggy for a second season.

When you add in the other numbers, though, it's actually doing really well.

*sigh* Though I know the live viewing numbers are considered the most valuable. It just means most of AC's audience time-shifts or watches on Hulu+.

They could potentially renew it for more limited seasons though.

I'll be happy either way. I love the idea of "limited engagements". "Prison Break" and "Galavant" were suppose to be that but networks get greedy. I know that we'll probably see Hayley and Peggy for years to come in some form. Next up ANT-MAN!

If AC is doing on par with The Flash how exactly is it "struggling"? Is it because of it being on ABC as opposed to The CW?

Yes. Because of the way CW's demographics skew their 18-49 ratings always tend to be lower (their shows tend to be aimed more towards the teenage crowed which just barely bumps into the 18-49 range) and CW seems to be just fine with that. The other main networks, however, tend to have content that appeals to more of the 18-49 range and so they (on average) tend to have higher ratings than CW has. So what's good for CW isn't necessarily seen as good on other networks.

Ultimately (from my understanding) what networks care about isn't so much how a show does compared to competing shows on rival networks, but how the show is doing compared to shows on the *same* network. So they'd look at how AC is doing compared to Once Upon a Time, Agents of SHIELD, Castle, etc... (again, like I said though, they might give it more leeway *because* it's a limited series that's just 'filling in' during a winter break).

We'll probably learn more about it's future when ABC announces their renewals (and not renewals) with their upfronts (which I believe they usually do in May) - though it is possible we could hear something when it ends it's run.

Hope that all made sense.

I was nervous when I saw this thread had been bumped. Thank goodness the numbers finally stabilized.

Great news! Though I wonder how much of having a fresh "Shark Tank" lead-in plays a part.

At least it didn't drop again. I hope the ratings for the remaining eps will rise (and that the DVR ratings continue to be good).

Sadly, I think this show is doomed.

Which would be a great shame. The show is vastly superior to a lot of Agent of Shield was in season 1. And ep 5 is pretty amazing. For fans of the first Captain America, this show is a godsend.
