The Dark Knight The reason for the title

I doubt they would put the word "Demons" in a Batman movie which is PG-13 and geared towards a lot of audience under 18. It would be more off-putting than beneficial to the box office. I think he becomes what we know as "The Dark Knight". In Batman BEGINS he was starting out, getting a feel for things and in this one we see Batman really imposing his will on the criminals of Gotham. I think its something as simple as that. Probably not like the words themselves appearing in the movie or having some kind of secret, special signifigance. Its just the next step: Batman began, now a bunch of stuff is escalating, so he is going to step it up to Dark Knight status.... it only makes sense.

The first time those words (The Dark Knight) were used to describe Batman that I am aware of was in the pages of Batman #1, published in Spring 1940, not even a year after the character’s debut. The phrase “the Dark Knight” was used in the first story in the comic, and that story was a VERY important one – now known simply as “The Joker,” the story featured the debut of Batman’s greatest foe. At the bottom of page 7, Batman has just tangled with the Joker for the very first time, and the Joker pushes a near-unconscious Batman off of a bridge and into a river. Luckily, a title tells us that “The shock of cold water quickly revives the Dark Knight,” and Batman swims to safety.
