Okay, I am REALLY enjoying this game now. I've forgotten all about the crappy demo and all my complaints and this game has it's hooks in me.
And for all I know, the Chris campaign is the worst thing in the world, but to be honest, I've already sunk what seems like 4 or 5 hours into this game and I've only just finished chapter 2 of Leon's 5 chapters. This is going to be a BIG game, so who cares if across the different campaigns, they cater to different RE feels? I honestly haven't even given the other campaigns a second thought. The first chapter for Leon feels a lot like RE 2 in the atmosphere and setting, that is classic zombie, streets filled with wreckage and burning cars, civillians running around.. Then chapter 2 manages to feel a lot like RE 4, with a weird clandestine church, death traps, rusted old science labs filled with weird, freaky monsters etc.
Sure, it may not be survival horror. Sure it may be more action oriented, but you know what? At the moment, it is fun and it is thrilling. There are parts where I felt just as scared or tense as I ever did in RE 4 (and more so than RE 5) and there are action segments or boss fights that feel a lot more interesting.
I can't wait to try this in co-op either because some of these thrills could only be enhanced with another person. There's a great section in a cemetary where you get split up from your partner and there are old, Night of the Living Dead style zombies with shovels and pick axes roaming around and lurching from the darkness and that would be great to share the tension with another player.
I'm definitely not regretting this purchase yet.
