The Return of Bruce Wayne hits in April

I doubt it, Morrison's Batman is the definitive Bat-God, he can basically do and be anything he wants to. Even if they do it that way, then it just becomes a matter of time and that will most likely just lead to a situation of, 'Well, this fake Batman couldn't handle so-and-so threat, so the real Batman has to come out now!'

It's moments like that makes me want to see Batman die by slipping and falling down the stairs. I like the dude, but I hate it when certain writers try to make him the ultimate badass, literally the Bat-God.

This and this only is the reason noone in their right mind could take his "death" seriously. Morrison worships the bat, and was probably just itching to get him back in the cowl.

Like Teardrop mentioned, he'll go out of his way to show that Dick couldn't hack it as Batman. :whatever:

Well, looks like I'll need to update WompNation with a parody of this. And here I thought I had an easy day.

Make a Templar Batman fightning off Alistair from Assassin's Creed! :p

Exactly...but as a whole, none of it was handled as well as the death of Cap and promotion of Bucky.

But then again, Morrison isn't half the writer Brubaker is.

Your missing the point Bruce never died and that was always a present thing for the books to have the weight of, we knew he would be back. It didnt need to last long and the books are still selling very well with out bruce so the fact that you can say it wasnt handled well is a bit off. I have almost enjoy BatDick more than any current bat-story in a while.

Morrison is a totally different type of writer than Brubaker its like comparing apples to oranges. Not really fair.

Would be frakking cool.

Don't you mean Altair? Alistair is the Grey Warden/Ex-Templar from Dragon Age.

But even if Bruce returns, wouldn't it be realistic if he still let Dick take on the role of Batman for a while? I mean, the dudes been hopping through every time period. The guy needs a brake.

no breaks!!!

I think Dick was growing into the Batman role quite nicely, maybe Bruce will see that when he returns

Grant Morrison is making ALL Batmans canonical? Are we going to see Gotham by Gaslight Batman?!

That would be sweet. Gotham by Gaslight is one of my favourite Elseworlds

Well remember that Dan Didio did say one of the themes of 2010 was two Batmen in Gotham and how Dick Grayson is coping with that. Will he step down the mantle or what happens? Eitherway if you check the USA article these Batmen are confirmed:
- Viking Batman
- Pilgrim Batman
- Cowboy Batman
- Private Inspector Batman

OMG, are we going to get a Sherlock Holmes-ish Batman??? :wow:

That is exciting. I care a little less about Pirate Batman or whatever, but if they can get the inspector one done right it would be awesome. It would be a great homage to his roots. Better be set in Victorian England though.

@Dr. Watson

Apparently the "noir" Batman is the private inspector. So yeah Gotham by Gaslight remains as an elseworld Batman, while these different era Batmans are tribute to Silver Age. :D

@Nathan:

Lol you are totally correct. :D Damn me and names!

They better make action figures of all these different Batmans!

Ah ok. So is it more like a Bogart-esque PI in the thirties?

From USA Today:
Q: It's my understanding that Return will follow Bruce Wayne through different eras as he makes his way — presumably — back to the modern day. Any hints on which eras we might see Bruce exploring in his quest to find his proper place in time?
A: The first episode is set in the Late-Paleolithic Era, the second is in Pilgrim-era Gotham Village, and we also get to see Gotham in Western or noir style.
Each of the stories is a twist on a different "pulp hero" genre — so there's the caveman story, the witchhunter/Puritan adventurer thing, the pirate Batman, the cowboy, the P.I. — as a nod toward those mad old 1950s comics with Caveman Batman and Viking Batman adventures. It's Bruce Wayne's ultimate challenge — Batman vs. history itself!
I've tried to thoroughly research each time period so that the stories work not only as at least fairly plausible reconstructions of life in the real 17th or 19th centuries but also as romanticized "pulp" versions too, while at the same time referencing the more extravagant history of the fictional DC Comics Universe in the background.

So yeah "Noir" is for the P.I Batman. Hope that answers your question.

@Womp: You're awesome as hell.

I wonder what Bruce does between caveman times and colony times. I get that Morrison wants to keep Bruce tied as firmly to Gotham (or what will become Gotham) as possible, but that's a big chunk of time.

Well, the is the more prep time Bruce could ever dream of. I'm sure he'll take advantage of it. Like when Doom trapped Mr.F in a cave in 1602.

I really wanna see Caveman Batman fight a elephant!

Ha!

I think Morrison has lost too much cred with big events to make this super successful, but I'm glad DC is sticking to franchise specific events again.

He'll probably be time tripping and bypass those chunks of time

I'm definitely looking forward to this. :up::up:
