Comics The Return Of Eddie Brock

True Brock would finally redeem himself as a villain.
Venom IS a wildly popular character and has been consistently since his inception some 19 years ago.
Why else would Arad have induced Raimi to include him in SM3? The popularity of Venom = $$$.
The reason we don’t see a Venom title on shelves right now (tho no doubt there will be a few one shots etc soon), is because the character don’t really have what it takes to shoulder a monthly on his own and as such readers soon lose interest.

Yes, Venom is still very popular, but my point was that he obviously isn't the "flavor of the month" anymore.

Fast forward to today and the main problem w/ Spider-man comics is this penchant Marvel exhibit for producing these tacky shock event storylines. Death is no longer shocking, it is expected and tiresome.
Don’t forget that when GG killed Gwen his character had been gaining momentum for some time- both in terms of character development and as a Supervillain force. Two areas in which Brock has had no such progression. If Venom/Brock were to kill Aunt may it would be symptomatic of the problems with Marvel comics today. Another attempt at an easy fix by Marvel- How do we make Venom good again? I know!- we piss all over Aunt May. Good one.

I do agree that it wouldn't be the best idea, but Brock needs to do something edgy like kill May. If not actually May, he needs to make SOME KIND of impact to start on the road to improvement of his character.

He’s not just like any Spidey villain, hardly any are in the same league as GG. Venom is a once great supervillain force who’s popularity is at odds w/ what he actually represents. His fans, and possibly Marvel now seek that this issue be addressed.

He sure as Hell had a chance to get into the "big leagues", but past the "fight on the island" two-parter (his last appearance prior to Carnage), he just started sucking. But then I'll even admit that Venom stories after that were a guilty pleasure.

Actually dude, I think old school Venom ruled, but I’m getting sick of discussing it.
Basically Eddie as Venom was only meant to be used for a short time and as such that worked great.
Once we got past ASM#347 he became boring real fast and suddenly the fact that the character had no substance made a big difference for the first time.

Yeah, #347 was the last GOOD Venom story. And I don't think the Symbiote hopping people would have helped anything. It would undermine this great build-up and appearance of Venom in #300. It needs to always be Brock with the Symbiote, but the problem was he needed to be done better, and no one would have complained. Personally, I always took what people disdained about him (his motivations and his "Innocent/not innocent" behavior) as his extreme insanity.... thus, I never really thought there was anything wrong, until he went fully anti-hero. That truce with Spider-Man was just the last straw. Venom was even salvageable into "Maximum Carnage", but not after that. Not for a looong while.

Indeed, I love it, it's weird to see how sleek and awesome Veom looks here; no uber long tongue and green drool. I quite like this look for him.

i agree that artwork looks really good. i really hate the way macgargan has disgraced the venom character. i know some people like it, but i really hate looking at it. i really want to see how they remove the symbiote from macgargan.

Is that in or out of continuty?

I believe it's in continuity, but a flashback or old story.

Thank you. Old Vemon does look pretty creppy (By creppy, I mean kool. Looks like he's smiling and crap.)

Ah...a creepy-looking Venom that doesn't need eight hundred teeth, a 6 foot tongue, or green slime to look creepy. I thought those days were lost forever...

Did I spell creepy wrong?... TWICE!? Crap. Yeah, drool and tounge Venom looks more gross than creepy. In fact, it's disgrosting.

Now this is simply beautiful! That's just how McFarlane drew the him in the "Venom Returns" arc. And that is exactly how Venom should be drawn. Priceless! :wow:

Just look at the threat and menace in Venom's face in that bottom panel. I don't care what anyone says. Venom will always be A-list to me. I've yet to see anyone fill Peter with the same amount of pure fear that Brock/Venom did during that story.

They should have just left it there. With his initial appearence and then the follow-up where he terrorizes Parker.

Although I did like "Lethal Protector" :o

*Gasp* A kindred spirit! :wow: I'm not the only one:woot:

I just love the look on Brock's face after he gets up from being kicked into the wall; he has this unphased smirk that almost says "Well nice to see you too Parker, you still kick like a girl" That image would have been ruined by a 28 panel exposition of slime-drool and his infini-tongue. (Of course the last panel would feature North America drowning in Venom drool :csad: )

uhh... Why does Aunt May look like old Fabio from those life-insurance commercials?

It definitely looks like he's going to at least TRY to get May, if the cover is any indication.

Poor Aunt May. She will have nightmares everyday now. The Eddie Venom looks huge!!!
