...he's not dead. I attended Wizard World Philly today, and went to the Mongo Marvel discussion panel/Q&A. We were shown a preview of the upcoming comic called Beyond. I'm sure alot of you know about it as many of us were discussing it about a month or so back. If you'll recall, there was a Venom character in the background behind Spider-Man on the cover. So, I asked the esteemed Mr. Quesada if that was the Mac Gargan Venom, which he confirmed. After he said that was Gargan, I asked if that meant that Eddie Brock actually is dead. He responded by saying that Brock is not dead, but is instead in critical condition in the hospital. In his words, "He's alive, but certainly not kicking". Though strangely enough, while he did mention Eddie's cancer, he made no mention of his attempted suicide.

Anyway, I just wanted to share that info with everyone, as I know many posters were wondering about the ultimate fate of Eddie Brock. Whether or not that means he'll become Venom again is anybody's guess, though.

P.S. Dan Slott is a funny guy. During the panel, he took every opportunity to plug She-Hulk. It was a laugh riot.

I'm glad to hear that finally cleared up. I'm guessing this probably means that in time the symbiote will eventually come back to Brock.

This is great news. So the odds are pretty good that Brock will become Venom again eventualy. I hate Gargan as Venom.

So this pretty much confirms that Eddie will be Venom again.

um, MacDonald Gargan is Venom????????????
When the hell did this happen?
How the hell did this happen?
Why did this happen?
What happened to Scorpion?
Why is Eddie dead/not-dead?

1. It happened in Millar's MK:SM 12 issue run
2. Eddie auctioned it off to some guy, the guy was too much of a wuss for the symbiote, so it left him for Gargan.
3. Millar made it so.
4. He changed his name to Venom, but we haven't seen him since (until Beyond).
5. He slit his wrists in an alley.

O_O
NO, my god, that sux.

um, so where's the Scorpion suit then?

Actually it was pretty well done,
maybe you should read it first before you pass judgement.

I read half of it, i got to the part where the venom guy kills pete classmates, but i dont remember a lot of it seeing as how sins past came out then, and i sold my collection cause of it.

Who was the guy behind the kidnapping?

scorpion kidnapped may under the direction of osborn

Well at least this means that someday they'll get the suit off Gargan where it doesn't belong. Stupid idea to put the suit on him, and with Eddie being confirmed as alive (like they weren't going to bring in time for his 'much awaited' debut in SM3) that they'll sooner or later rectify that.

Hyper Venom, you have just made me one of the happiest people here on the Hype! with that news. Cheers! :venom:up:

It's about f'in time we had some good news where Venom is concerned. Although, really, how many people here actually believed Eddie was dead & buried? ;)

Well, considering that Eddie Brock is supposed to be in the new movie and Venom will appear. Spider-Man in the black suit...and all that jazz...

People didn't expect to hear Quesada say Brock is alive? That Venom will bond back with Brock?

Come on, guys, if it's one thing us comic fans have learned since Spider-Man 1 came out...the comics are going to reflect the movies in some way. Remember all those Goblin stories? And then during number 2...remember all those Dr. Octopus stories? I have a feeling we'll be getting a lot of Sandman and Venom stuff in the coming year. :O

They even gave Spider-Man organic webbing in the comics, thinking that fans weren't going to be MAD about it? I mean 40 years of web shooters and suddenly the movie gets popular and it just HAS to suddenly be changed. And a really crappy story to boot as well. :o

Spider-Man 2 saw Dr. Octopus go from a pudgy bad fashioned sense villain to a muscular Matrix looking villain. Whatever exercise plan that Ock joined or began doing...I must learn it. I, too, want to be muscular and look like I just stepped out of the Matrix.

So, what's Spider-Man 3 going to spawn in the comics? Possibly the death of MJ. The suit bonding back to Eddie Brock? Sandman getting power upgrades? Who knows. I'm expecting it. Are you?

Of course he isn't dead. There was no declaration of death. They just said he slit his wrists.

Movie Ock wasn't muscular. As for the trenchcoat,he's worn them before.Usually for concealment.Web of Death springs to mind on where he did that several times.

Sandman doesn't look like he has any different powers in the movie, from the scene descriptions we've been getting.

But I think MJ is going to die in the movie, and that's why they've introduced Gwen Stacy. This is probably where the marriage break up idea stemmed from.

No, the Ock in the movie wasn't muscular. That was obvious. I'm talking about in the comic book. They made Doc Ock muscular and the trenchcoat I'm refering to is how he's wearing like a black leather trenchcoat and looking like Doctor Octopus: The Matrix version. The movie had no effect on that?

And I have no idea about Sandman in the movie. I don't read spoilers about the movies. I just basically know all the main rumors from Wizard and other sources. Like Venom being in it and possibly MJ dying. That's about it.

But I expect some reprecussions in the comics that spawn from the movie. If Mary Jane doesn't die than Quesada has just been firing up many of the Spidey fans for nothing, which I would respect him for in a way...heh. But Quesada doesn't seem that sneaky...so I fully expect Mary Jane to die in the comic books.

You think comic Ock is muscular now  Which arcs was he drawn muscular?? I only know him as drawn muscular in USM.

I have no doubt his new trenchcoat look is because of SM-2. I'm just saying it's not the first time he's worn them. It's because of SM-2 that he's wearing them regular now yes.

Damn I never thought that they considered killing her. Breaking up the marriage yes, but I don't think MJ should be written out of the comics altogether.

I sincerely hope the movies don't have that much influence on the comics.Because next thing you know GG will be wearing that awful Power Rangers costume, Ock will start talking to his tentacles, and Eddie Brock will turn into a skinny twenty something blonde guy ;)

The Doctor Octopus arc in Spectacular Spider-man Volume 2. He looked muscular in that.

Mark Millar's Marvel Knights run saw a more muscular looking Ock. As opposed to the much pudgier version.

Well, I've always been under the impression that if they get rid of MJ that they're going to kill her. Because it's been stressed that the boys at Marvel don't want to divorce the two. So, the only way to get rid of her at this point is to kill her, I really see no other option. Unless she disappears in a black hole or something.

I actually thought Ocks new look in the comics that was obviously changed to fall in line w/ SM2, worked really well.
Especially in Countdown.

I read it all, and MKSM was unmittigated trash from start to finish.

Are you serious?, issues 1-12 you did not like?, Scorpion die-hards aside Il never understand why that run was so displeasing for some peeps.

I liked all of MKSM until venom was passed to Scorpion (and im not a scorpion die hard at all), I just thought it was a terrible idea.

Well, because it had such an intense start and as the series went it didn't deliver what the beginning suggested, at least to me.

I mean, if you're going to have Doctor Octopus, who was drugged, fight Green Goblin...and Mary Jane is about to be thrown off a bridge...and Aunt May's life hangs in the balance and...lightning struck them?

There really was no pay off, in my opinion. Even the symbiote bonding with Scorpion didn't give the pay off because...it made no sense. Why would the symbiote want to bond with Scorpion? Why not someone else or the plethora of villains that were in the series? It made more sense for the symbiote to try and bond with Peter again, if you ask me.

It was a good run, and rather memorable for the reasons of Electro, the Sinister Twelve, the artwork of the Dodsons, the mentioning of Ben Reilly and Peter's kid...and that's about it.

But the payoff...pretty bad. It was like getting to third base with a girl...and then she just stops and doesn't want to see you anymore. Painful. :(
