The Return of Vinyl: Turntables and Analog Audio

@Zantera I don't know if you're a fan of Agalloch, but they're re-issuing The Mantle and Ashes Against the Grain!

I already own both but Ashes is tempting to me because I only have it on standard black and I'm a sucker for colored vinyl. (I have The Mantle on grey vinyl) Might have to dip in and get one of the colored Ashes, it's my favorite album of theirs and one of my favorite metal albums in general!

Same! Mantle is also a fantastic album. I suppose you got the 2024 repress?

The shipping fees are crazy. The webstore has an estimation of $45 USD just to ship to Canada which is about the same amount for the Ashes LP. Ooof... I hope one of my local record stores will have them.

Speaking of represses, In Flames have recently re-issued some of their albums that hit recent anniversaries like Clayman and Colony. ****acle is up next and I already have it pre-ordered. :yay: Looking forward to The Jester Race. I love (and dearly miss) their classic Gothenburg style of melodeath.

I ended up getting the variant of Ashes that had some yellow mixed into it! Some albums you just need on a fancy color vinyl. :D

That In Flames one looks nice! I used to listen to them a lot back in my teenage years, I got into them through Come Clarity when I was 14 and I saw them live on the A Sense of Purpose tour. They're one of the biggest bands from my city so I've always had some local pride about them, though I must admit I haven't really loved anything they put out in the '10's or '20s'. I did however recently revisit their classics and I do think their classic run slaps really hard. The Jester Race up to Clayman is a really nice run of albums and I even like some of the ones after (though they get a bit more mixed). :)

Post-Clayman albums, I mostly listened to Reroute, Soundtrack and Come Clarity. CC was easily my favourite of their *ahem* KoRn era... :hehe:

I see you are from Gothenburg. Makes sense... :cwink: Speaking of which, Dark Tranquillity is another band re-issuing their albums on vinyl for anniversaries. They released Projector late last year for its 25h anniversary. This year, three of their albums reach a milestone so hopefully they will repress them on vinyl as well.

I need to dive into Dark Tranquillity for sure. I think I tried some of their popular albums back when I had my In Flames period but they didn't really stick with me. But I checked out their most recent album last year (Endtime Signals) and enjoyed that one quite a bit. Should definitely dive deeper into their discography this year. :p There's also At the Gates and a few other bands from this city so quite the booming music scene for a while.

My summer haul.

@Zantera Finally got my hands on an Agalloch record. :) One of my records stores may get the other re-issues like Pale Folklore.

@Gee that's a nice haul! I got that Julie Christmas one on vinyl myself. Still need to get Symbolic on vinyl. As far as Agalloch goes I am missing a few but I got the classic ones. Pale Folklore on white vinyl, The Mantle on grey vinyl, Ashes Against the Grain and Faustian Echoes.

I honestly only need 3 Agalloch records: Mantle, Ashes and The White. Now that they are re-issuing some of their albums on vinyl, might as well get them. The demo archive is a good compilation of their early years so for the "hardcore" fans it is nice to have in their collection.

I don't really care for their last two albums. Will listen to Faustian Echoes since I haven't listened to it.

It's funny yesterday I got a package to pick up and I wasn't sure what it was. Turns out it was Ashes Against the Grain on colored vinyl and 2 Agalloch T-shirts. I had completely forgotten I ordered these but this happens sometimes when pre-order is months in advance and you just blank on it. Happy surprise.

For me their first 3 albums are peak but I've definitely warmed up to Marrow of the Spirit and would include it in their classic run. The hardest obstacle for me to overcome was the sound. Ashes Against the Grain is one of my favorite metal albums and it has a great clean sound to it. Same with The Mantle. Then you get Marrow which just sounds darker, rawer and it was quite a change for me.

The Serpent and the Sphere to me is one of those albums that I would probably like a lot more if it was a debut album by some new band, but because it's Agalloch and the bar is set so high, the album being a 7.5/10 feels like a disappointment. Seems we might actually get another album from them down the line though and I will be hyped for that.

I hope those shirts have nice design. :cwink: I used to have a t-shirt from years ago. I wonder if it's still somewhere at my parents'.

Marrow is good, but I don't necessarily need it in my collection unlike Ashes and Mantle. I do very much like the tracks "Into the Painted Grey", "Black Lake Niðstång" and "Ghosts of the Midwinter Fires". If I can find it at a decent price, sure why not, I'll add it to my Kallax shelf.

Nothing on TSatS stands out to my ears other than maybe "Plateau of the Ages" thanks to its post-rock explosive ending. I even think the acoustic tracks are forgettable.

Picked up a bunch of vinyl during a road trip this weekend, visiting a record store I had never been to before at another city we go to once a year or so.

Finally got Death - Symbolic on vinyl. Been meaning to get it since forever but I held off on ordering it online because I figured "surely I can pick this up at a record store and save on shipping cost". They actually didn't have it here at my local store in my city, but happy to finally get this one. Slightly bummed it's only in black as all the other ones are cool colors but hey, it's their best album and the last one missing so I'll take it.

Another metal album I picked up was Empire State Bastard - Rivers of Heresy on a green vinyl. It's a bit of an odd album that I didn't necessarily loved if I'm being honest, it's like a solid 7.5/10 or so. But it's a side project/supergroup band featuring Mike Vennart (Oceansize, solo), Simon Neil (Biffy Clyro) and Dave Lombardo (Slayer). I'm a huge Mike Vennart fan and Oceansize are probably my favorite band so this was more just for adding another album of his in my collection.

Finally I picked up two vinyl with ...And You Will Know us by the Trail of Dead. IX on a blue swirl and Tao of the Dead on gold. Been a casual fan of them for years but last year I deep dove them and listened to all their albums and was happy to pick these up. They're a solid indie/prog band and both of them were discounted. At this day and age finding 2 new colored vinyl with a band you like and neither of them being more than 20 euros on their own feels like a steal.
