  • Because he has to (OCD)

  • Because he wants to(complete free will)

I still think crazy is good enough for me. So much time is burned up in these movies doing the background or origin. In essence winding up on the mound forever. The Incredibles just were. I liked that.

Well when you get your Batman series going you can cast him however you would like.

The idea of seeing Wayne on screen, knowing a guy like Edward Nygma is smarter than him, would bring a different kind of level--I think that would be cool.

I think the character could show signs of OCD without even having to actually explain it in the film and it could help people wanting reasons see an answer. But that aside, I don't think they'd need to actually explain it, it'd take away from the character I think.

Here is a question for everyone: If the character of Nygma does show up in this film what is the chance that his alter ego neither shows up in this film nor the 3rd one? (after all, doc connors in the spiderman series has yet to become the lizard.....) Just a thought. If Nygma does show up this could be Nolan's way to throw the comic book fans a bone rather than to actually play anything relating to a key role, especially considering the role was cast so late in the game........

Thats the impression I'm getting

Its not realism its plausibility. Also audiences now a days like to have reasons why things happen, instead of just its just that way. Why would riddler leave riddles of his crime? He just does vs. He likes to taunt police or has OCD

Right, Like how Rob Zombie shows Michael Myers as a kid being picked on at school and having his sister touched by his drunken stepfather in the new Halloween. Much better (and "scarier") having these chliche'd childhood incidents set him off into the psychotic killer we know him as than not having a reason for him doing it like Carpenter did.

Wells said storytelling is more about what you don't show than what you do show.

Yes...I believe that less is more. Less psycho-babble explaining for people's behaviors...and more just doing it.

Sometimes less is more, I agree. Like Phantom of the Opera, in the play they make the Phantom mysterious with no back story and offer the thought that he truly is a Phantom. In the Schumacher version they made him real with a little snippet of back story. But with the Batman stories people like to hear about origin or cause. They(Batman characters) have been around for so long and keeping them just as is is little to no improvement. Similar to how instead of a Dracula story with an immortal vampire they give the background to him. It always depends on the viewers tastes though.

There are a few different interpretations of The Riddler's characterisation I'd be open to. But I absolutely do not want to see him become some kind of Jigsaw-like serial killer. That's just wrong, and it's just not The Riddler.

If he was a killer I see him like the Zodiac not Jigsaw. Also I don't see Riddler as a killer, maybe out of necessity just not for personal gain.

Well what would be his main motive? Wealth gain? Revenge? Superiority complex? Help me out here, I don't read alot of batman. Most of what I know of these characters comes from the cartoon shows and movies. Much as I love Jim Carrey though, I feel like he was just playing Joker in green sPandex.

Joker: Riddler huh? You stealing my schtick?

Riddler: I tell riddles. Not jokes.

So it's sort of been comfirmed that Anthony Michael Hall's character is going to be Edward Nygma aka The Riddler. But I was wondering if he's gonna start out right away as a villain or work at WayneTech, or something. Also, if he's already The Riddler, how is he gonna fit in with the "freaks vs. mobs" theme? Is he going to be another of Joker's victims like Harvey Dent, etc..

What do you guys think?

None of that is confirmed...

Its not confirmed and I hope it never is. Because for one, the riddler is a bad villain and two, this movie is already crammed with characters and villains

Two-Face Making An Appearance?
By Garth FranklinSunday July 8th 2007 4:52pm

Whilst the Joker's visage hasn't been completely revealed in a hi-res, full color glossy photo, people are now generally aware of what Ledger's make-up job in upcoming Batman sequel "The Dark Knight" will look like.

Thus the big remaining question is that will the incident with Harvey Dent being scarred and becoming Two-Face be done in this film, or are they holding that plot point for a further sequel? Sounds like the former according to a scooper for film ick.

That site reports that scenes have been filmed with Aaron Eckhart in Two Face makeup and describes it as "scarring across the nose just a tad bit. One of his eye is deformed. And little bubbles across the scarring". They also re-iterate that Anthony Michael Hall 's role in the film is that of Edward Nygma (better known as 'The Riddler').

Never trust anything film ick says. Brandon, who writes articles there, will post anything sent to him without checking to make sure it's true or not. For all we know, at the time, some fanboy sent in that AMH was the Riddler and Brandon just ran with it.

BOF (Batman-on-film) pretty much confirms Riddler (or just Nygma and not his villain alter ego) is in the film, and when they say something is fact, take it as fact until drastic moves by Nolan or the studio are made. They also greatly hint at AMH being Nygma, but nothing on that is confirmed, but for sure Nygma is in the film.

film ick has about as much credibility as me saying i have already seen the teaser trailer.

So what do you think is going to be Nygma's purpose in the film?
