I’d call this trilogy more unfocused than complicated. And I say that because you can’t describe what the underlying plot of the three films is. If the OT was about a group of rebels bringing down an evil empire, and the ST was about the overthrow of democracy into a dictatorship and the downfall of a once good man falling to evil, then what is the ST plot suppose to be exactly? Because 3 films later and I’m still no clearer about what story this ST is meant to be telling.

just got back seeing it. I..........liked it actually. It wasn't perfect. But, it was by no means the worst Star Wars film EVER. No, that honor still goes to TLJ, which will forever have the taint of being the film that knocked the SW Skywalker saga off track.

JJ and his team were dealt a terrible hand going into TROS, and I think they did the best job with what they had to work with.

Still, it makes you wonder what could have been had JJ directed all 3 films, or at least if they had a cohesive plot outline mapped for the trilogy. A lot of what was covered in TROS should have been covered in TLJ. TROS felt like it was carrying the weight of 2 films, not just one.

Rey basically being a Sith princess, and said Sith princess being the last hope for the Jedi, is such an interesting concept that I wish it would have been explored throughout all 3 films. And not just dumped on us in the final film.

TFA should have teased Rey's Sith lineage. TLJ should have confirmed it. TROS should have her confront it and overcome it.

If I had to give a rating to TROS, I'd say 7/10.

Just got back from seeing it...

I didn't hate it and I appreciate they had a lot of loose ends to tie up and essentially had to start from scratch following TLJ.

I have a few gripes...
1/ I feel SW no longer brings anything new to the table... about halfway through I felt like I was watching ANH or TFA all over again. The story beats are so predictable and it just felt like a rehash of what's come before it (not literally before it obviously as it was very different to TLJ)
2/
All the main players got out unscathed (minus Leia for obvious reasons) For a minute I thought they were going to be brave and kill off Chewie but that was a brief fake out and even C3PO got his memory restored.
3/
Ben's redemption. It felt so fast and out of the blue. I would have liked to have seen a lot more conflict. I'm not sure what Leia did to get through to him but maybe she should have done it a few movies ago and saved everyone a whole lot of drama?

Bringing back Palpatine was just lazy and a bit of a kick in the balls to RoTJ and Vader's sacrifice

On the plus side, it was beautiful shot and emotional in places. It had a lot of heart and I think that counts for a lot. I will see it again when it comes out on DVD for sure.

Well, I honestly didn't think it was bad. Just...not great either. TLJ remains the only new Star Wars movie I've really loved, so it was a shame to see them feel the need to "course correct" from that one. But I suppose it was fairly inevitable, as the mob is extra loud these days, and JJ is all about pleasing those crowds. I get it. I just wasn't interested in seeing them go in that direction at all. Oh well. I think if they were determined to go into this direction, this did it about as well as they could have done it (minus one totally off-putting and unnecessary thing). It was a well-made movie for the most part, just a dull and uninspiring way to go overall, imo.

Saw it tonight, enjoyed some parts, but overall quite disappointing. TLJ hamstrung this movie for me, this movie had to cover so much, simply because TLJ didn’t and was too busy subverting things for the sake of it.

That being said, some of the story choices mad here were pretty poor. As is the fact we got no explanation as to why Palpatine was back, he just was and that was it. Not to mention his overall plan. And don’t get me started on that finale they came up with. The cast still did really well, and it’s a beautiful looking movie. But even though I am not the biggest fan of the guy, this didn’t feel like a J.J. Abrams movie. Gone was the heart and wonder of TFA and to be honest I will quite bored in places.

It felt like his should have been two movies. And ironically enough when I walked out of TLJ in 2017, I remember saying to a friend “they have left too much to cover in the last movie now.” And unfortunately that’s the case. This trilogy had so much potential after TFA. Now looking back it just seems a bit of a disappointment.

7/10 for this one, still better than TLJ, but no where near the franchises best.

So just saw the movie last night. I went in knowing that it was impossible for this movie to be an 8.5 out of 10 or above, simply because of how bad the last Jedi was and how offensive it was to the core franchise and its charecters.

It Was an enjoyable fast paced film but JJ had too much to effectively retcon from the previous film so it could of been another 30 to 40 minutes longer and I would of been happier. Some really epic moments like the space fleets battle at the end. Ben's redemption arc was well played. Felt like JJ had a lot to do but only 2 hours. Loved what he tried to do with Luke ie Luke finally helping Rey and admitting he was wrong in the last jedi ( which for me was a huge FU to Ryan Johnson and tlj) but still mad Lukes Heroes journey should of been better. That's my main gripe with this film that prevents a 9 out of 10. It suffers because of its predecessor and how Luke was handled. At least luke admitted he was wrong and helped Rey in the end. But it was too little too late. Its the Skywalker saga after all and it should of had more of a focus on him. I would love to know how the trilogy would of played out if JJ had directed all 3. Loved all the fan service but one or two moments were laughable. Chewie got his medal

8 out of 10 will go a second time.

I mistakenly voted for 7. But its a 6 for me. Underwhelming for an imo, overrated franchise. Also it felt very rushed.

That 6 minute prologue for TENET was amaz.....oh yeah ..uhhm Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

PRAISE: I have been a fan of everything and anything Star Wars for over 30 years now. Some of the films i have found to be absolutely perfect. Some i can take certain scenes and characters that were epic, but didnt care for the films as a whole.Unfortunately ROS falls into the latter.
What i liked about the film i thought they did a fine job with General Leia ( RIP Carrie Fisher). Her scenes were about 90 percent flawless. The cast including Daisy Ridley, Richard E. Grant, Joonas Suotamo, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Ian McDiarmid, Billy Dee Williams, , Mark Hamill, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Adam Driver, and Anthony Daniels do the best they can with the script they had to work with.
The CGI,Practical SFX and SFX are nearly flawless.John Williams score is as rousing as ever.
Some scenes hit all the right emotional chords.
I was only truly shocked by one scene...it was a nice surprise.

PROBLEMS:What's crazy and frustrating about this movie is the fact that a lot of whats in ROS should have been in The Last Jedi !!
Director J.J. Abrams was trying to right a ship caught between 2 hurricanes with this film.Sure there is fan service but some of it comes off as lackluster, coupled with plot holes that continue to tear away at Star Wars canon, things that were written in stone over 30 years ago !!
One revelation and the reaction to it was absolutely awful and awkward.
The writers just made to many alterations and just keep casting a shadow, over all the greatness that came before.
It's sad to say but im glad the Skywalker saga is over....well this part of it anyway.

Scale of 1-10 im stuck on a 6½ or 7

After finally seeing it, I'm kinda flabbergasted at all the hate... I really enjoyed this movie! Easily the best in this trilogy (I know that's not saying much, but still). Sure, it had some issues.. pacing, plot holes, character arcs, etc. But as whole, it was a fun movie from start to finish. Dare I say, I'm happy with how this saga ended.

8/10.

Enjoyed it for the most part. Some of the things they do with the force, is just a little odd. Also a little disappointed in the ending. Effects and action were top notch. Acting was good for the most part too.

I will say the hate is a little unwarranted in my book. I was expecting to fully embrace the dark side after some of the reviews. Not the case. Just some things bothered me.

7/10

It's one of those movies that requires you not to think too hard, in order to enjoy it.

I hated that ending.

Ben should have lived and Rey shouldn't be alone on Tatooine.

I assumed that Rey was only on Tatooine long enough to bury the lightsabers and pay homage to Luke, although I'm not sure how she knew where to go to do that. Presumably Luke told her? She wasn't going to stay there and I'm guessing would go back to whereever Finn and everyone else is to continue her life with her friends.

And I've seen claims that Driver was filmed with Ridley on the Tatooine set and that an alternate ending had Ben surviving, but I don't know if that's true.

I agree that
Kylo/Ben should have lived. I feel the ending would have been a lot better to see him live over Rey. Or at least let them both live. I do remember someone posting a shot of the scene of Rey burying the lightsaber, you can see someone else in the background. I wonder if theres an edit where he lives? Missed opportunity.

I also agree it felt like JJ had to fix a lot of things from the previous installment, which I'm glad he did, but it took up some time to do so. Would have loved to see more of Luke Skywalker in this, I didn't expect his role to be so small, that was a bit disappointing. I did love the
flashback scene of Luke & Leia training when they're younger. Felt so old school EU!

I saw it on Monday. Solid 7/10. I would give it an 8, but it's just not quite there for me. I enjoyed it for the most part. It was a 2 hour long fight/chase/fight. The critics were unusually harsh to this film, honestly. This film wasn't made for them. It was made for Star Wars fans. The things they got right were very right.

I loved the portrayal of Palps in this, and I like Kylo Ren's arc. I will happily place this trilogy above the prequel trilogy, but below the original trilogy.

This film was the weakest in this trilogy for me, with The Last Jedi being the better of the three films (not sorry).

Just got back. It was...fine. As someone who liked TLJ I was expecting far worse. It’s too long, too talky, wastes time introducing new characters (at this point, why?) and adding unnecessary backstory to existing ones. But it’s got space battles and lightsaber fights and all of that, so yay Star Wars. I do think there’s a better movie buried in here, but as is 6.5/10.

I saw TROS about six hours ago.
I will make this short and sweet.
I Loved It!
9.5/10.
That rating is a first for me.

Saw this Friday with a bunch of my in-law fam. I don't think anyone liked it, maybe one brother-in-law. My niece and nephew seemed very non-plussed.

What an over-plotted atrocity. More special object objectives than a videogame. Stupid narrative convolutions piled on top of each other. So much crap that doesn't make sense, with everything complicated for the sake of spectacle and dumb ideas that should have been dropped anyways. I'd go in more detail but it'd all be spoilers and I just don't have the energy for this movie to go to that much effort to spoiler tag each example I'd like to bring up.

I am not a JJ fan but if he had done the whole trilogy himself, it probably would have been a better result (especially if he had had help writing the plot, because JJ sucks at things like cogent plotting and narrative logic). If Rian had had his own trilogy, it probably would have been better, too, because then he would have been creating his own thing and not just reacting to some of the dumb and derivative stuff JJ set up in TFA. As it stands, this trilogy is a really disjointed mess and it doesn't really add up to much. I do think JJ could have followed up TLJ in a way that might have been satisfying, but he so badly wanted to course correct the trilogy back to his "vision" (quotation marks because JJ doesn't have a lot of original imagination from what I can tell, so much of what he has done in his career has been riffing on his influences), he ended up delivering a real mess of a movie.
