Captain Marvel The Rotten Tomatoes/Critic's Reaction Thread

Yeah after IW I am definitely way more excited for Doctor Strange 2. The Russo's did some great stuff with him in that movie, especially with how they somewhat altered his characterization. I would not be surprised if the same happened with Endgame with them being able to play with Carol more and her being apart of such a bigger ensemble cast.

The problem here (and I've been saying this for months) is that Marvel overhyped the character and the movie so much that now a merely "good" movie isn't going to be enough.

It's all their fault.
I think it's going to be the same for any marvel movie. We've been spoiled to the point that anything less than "it's the best movie ever", is going to be met with disappointment.

Marvel reminds me of Moneyball. They don't need a lot of the 9 or 10/10 reviews, just a lot of 7/10s. They've mastered Rotten Tomatoes.

I think it is much healthier for a franchise to put out solid entertainment every time out where you are practically guaranteed to see something at least decent, than a total crapshoot where you might get a classic like Logan, The Dark Knight, and Into The Spider-Verse one time and total unwatchable crap like Fant4stic, Batman v Superman, and The Amazing Spider-Man another. I think the box office bears that out. It is more important to avoid the landmines that can kill a franchise overnight. Who do you think is happier right now? Disney with how the MCU is doing or WB with how the DCEU is doing?

That said, I do think people are harsh on Marvel in that regard. They DO have some really fantastic movies. Winter Soldier, Civil War, Guardians of the Galaxy, Iron Man, Black Panther, Infinity War, Ragnarok are all among the very best CBMs, IMO. Saying that other studios either hit a homerun or strikeout while Marvel is content with a single, isn't really accurate. Marvel has homeruns. They just don't strike out. They may not hit a homerun every time, but nobody else does either.

Well, 3 of my own personal barometer critics (Turan, Roeper and Glieberman) liked it, rather enthusiastically I might add, so I’m resting easy now. These next two days will be torture, lol.

Agreed, LOL! I just want to watch this movie now!!!!

Though I am planning to see it a few times over the OW, LOL

Eh, the reviews aren't that bad honestly. I was expecting worse. The problem here (and I've been saying this for months) is that Marvel overhyped the character and the movie so much that now a merely "good" movie isn't going to be enough.

IndieWire is the reason the "Brie Larson hates white men" debate started in the first place. They took her words out of context and made a clickbait title out of it... **** them.
Wow, I had a feeling something was off In that review

I never meant that they haven't hit it out of the park. I thought Iron-Man, The Avengers, Winter Soldier, GOTG, CW, Doctor Strange, Homecoming, BP and IW were all stellar.

What I meant was their mi****s are still singles. They don't strike out, with the occasional home run.

Bases are loaded for Endgame.

7th rotten has landed!

As am I. Just made plans to see it with my brother on Sunday (he was waiting on the score lol), which will be viewing #3 for me. :D

Agreed. People may crack on the MCU for having nothing but jokes or are all the same movies which is really untrue IMO, especially with the Phase 3 films we have been getting so far, but at least there pretty damn consistent when it comes to quality. Even if I wasn't the biggest fan of something like Ant-Man & The Wasp I still don't consider it a bad film and of course I'm going to like certain MCU films more than others, because that's just normal with a franchise this extensive. Still it helps that they haven't put out outright bad movies left and right either. I mean with the exception Bumblebee just like at the state of the Transformers franchise right now.

A lot of the "Too many jokes" people turned into "Brie Larson doesn't smile enough" people *sips tea*

I'm hoping it doesn't go down too much because some will blame misogyny like they did with the Ghostbusters reboot. Though I hope it is graded fairly the can of worms it would open would not be good.

I'm already getting ridiculously hyped for Eternals. lol

Here's the thing making movies is hard...not even talking about good movies. The fact that the MCU has just released yet another generally well received movie, 22 movies in, is a ridiculously impressive feat.

Reviews are fresh but not teh best movie evah. There's a lot of 3/5, 2.5/5, 6/10s

Thanks to high RT score, the number crunchers are saying the number for the OW is gonna be much higher than expected. 175m has been thrown around.
