Captain Marvel The Rotten Tomatoes/Critic's Reaction Thread

Why bring the RT score up at all then? You make a habit of just saying things that have no meaning?

If you read through this thread it was a mistake to say "everyone" and meant to say "everyone that said."

You seem to be dodging the fact that you still haven't clarified whether or not you have actually watched the movie you are pretending to criticize.

Basically it's a darn good MCU movie. The people expecting the same quality as BP don't realize how rare it is to produce an Academy Award nominee for best picture quality movie. It's one of a kind in the CBM genre.
That's sort of how I'm taking it. It's nothing groundbreaking or profound but it's a good introduction for the character. At this point, the only real solo debuts they've absolutely nailed with the critics are IM1 and BP.

Yea. So what's the alternative, skip it? You can do that for popular characters like spiderman, Superman and Batman that have been rebooted a lot, but not obscure characters like Captain Marvel, Eternals, Gotg, Aquaman and the rest.
It's the Cinema Sins effect. People act like anything they've seen before is inherently "wrong". A "cliche" is only a flaw if it's not executed well. Unfortuantely, a lot of nuance is lost in modern online film criticism. The majority of the negative reviews for this movie are (as with most CBMs) are people who don't respect the genre or people operating on the afore-mentioned flawed basis.

Yea, it will be very hard for any comic book movie to top BP.

You do realize this is the RT thread...

Furthermore you use an 84% to laugh at “everyone who said” this would be the best CBM of the year. I countered that 84% your using to belittle them, could very well be the highest score of the year given last year’s Avengers film and the abysmal critical track record of the DCEU.

Imagine if it is a dc movie? For sure now is at 60% or less in rt

Also, for those pointing at MetaCritic, you do realize that a 66 score there is better than Deadpool and only two lower than Infinity War, right? The original Avengers itself only has a 69.

I'm assuming you are talking critically and if so spiderverse already did last year with also a 97% tomatoscore but a better average score of 8.7 compared with BP 8.2.

In regards with the MCU though I'd probably agree that none will top its score.

And it certainly feels that post-BP, MCU films are being judged a little bit differently. I'd say CM is also being judged a bit against Wonder Woman, as I've seen her mentioned in a few reviews.

I do think Marvel made a mistake in not getting Captain Marvel out before Wonder Woman. That's really been the one time they let DC beat them to the punch.

I'll agree with you there but Wonder Woman had been in development at multiple times at WB/DC so they had a definite headstart on Marvel, which was sort of hamstrung by Perlmutter and CM needing to be developed from scratch due to her somewhat complicated history/backstory. Marvel also had a much more crowded schedule than WB so CM was also sort of blocked off by that.

Why do I have to? How am I dodging anything lol? I said outright I'm waiting for streaming just look at two posts ago in this very thread.

My point is that you're bringing it up but then saying it doesn't mean it equates to quality. That was what you brought up not me.

So you are criticizing a movie you haven't even seen? that's not criticizing, that's just trolling.

DC also managed to do Aquaman before Namor.
I don't really think Feige is all that big on Namor so it's not that big of a loss to him. Plus, its complicated film rights make it a nightmare to do a solo film, similar to any future solo Hulk films.

I think if we ever get namor it will just be as a supporting character or a black panther villain

Where in the phases could CM have conceivably come out prior to WW?
