This is why I hate reviews. People have their own tastes in movies and it will always be presented in their reviews.

I personally don't really understand all this rotten tomatoes stuff. Movies, like all sorts of art and entertainment are about taste what is one persons jam isn't anothers. I'm interested in this I'm going to see it, no high or low score is going to change that.

I agree it's all about your experience with the movie. But I see the critics thing as sort of a fun side conversation.

Eep, a little concerned over the ScreenJunkies review. Generally trust those two, good level heads on them, don't savage stuff unnecessarily but also don't just blindly love stuff because it's expected of them.

Comparisons to The Dark World, Iron Man 2, & Aquaman? ...Woof.

Ehh, wait and see I guess. I'm not one who puts too much stock in reviews in general, plenty of movies I love that critics don't, but when they're reviewers you usually tend to see mostly eye-to-eye with it's a little...yeah.

Still, they were pretty harsh on Alita, I for the most part really dug that. *Shrugs* Find out in a couple of days I guess.

That stuff about "not really getting a good sense of Carol as a character" is kinda throwing me. Like they say in their own review, even the middling-to-worse MCU flicks so far have a really good grasp on that. In Thor 2 you still know who Thor is as a dude, you're along for the journey, it's just everything around that that's pretty blahh. Iron Man 2, same thing - plot's seriously muddled, but you're in Tony's head and understand the motivations, what drives him. If that's lacking in a major way here, it'll be a problem. Sounds like they're not blaming Brie either, but more the script and how she's kept at a distance with the writing.

Not sure what to think now. Still, a lot of moderately-positive reviews coming in too, and even ScreenJunkies says there's plenty that they enjoyed on a less-substantive surface level, so gonna keep the enthusiasm. If it gets busted in the theater so be it, but no point going in expecting to not be happy with it.

Jeremy Jahns is one of the only reviewers I religiously watch on YouTube. I tend to have similar taste to him, especially in the MCU. My tickets are already purchased for Friday, the question is will I be going for a second viewing?

They're pretty positive, overall. Movie is going to maintain a solid score it appears. So who cares if not everyone is posting "Bestest movie EVAH!!!!" They still like it.

This happens in every RT conversation for every movie. Your best bet is looking at those critics rated other movies you've enjoyed to see if your tastes are in line. You should never go off of just one of their reviews to determine if you should see the movie.

People just like feeling validated that the thing they love is loved by the majority of others
its a weird feeling to know that most people think something you care about is s**t

plus, as comic fans, for many years we liked something that was "unpopular" and made us geeks, so its nice to see it appreciated by the wider culture

‘Captain Marvel’ Review: A Massively Disappointing Introduction to Carol Danvers

This isn’t the first time a Marvel protagonist has spent an entire movie trying to figure out the basic details of who they are, but at least Star Lord was given some additive character business to fill in the gaps. Ms. Danvers has no such luck, and Larson — an Oscar-winner whose natural protectiveness is poorly served by such a self-satisfied character — has little to do beyond mug for the camera and spout third-rate one-liners to any of the men who get in her way. Larson is far too eager to play her own action figure, and that proud approach doesn’t leave Carol anywhere to go once her memories inevitably return. So she settles for quips and second-hand glimpses into whatever life she used to live. There’s an emotional core in there somewhere, but the movie doesn’t find it. Not since Edward Norton’s Hulk has the MCU offered such a two-dimensional title hero (compared to Danvers, Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk might as well be a Dostoyevsky character).
