Captain Marvel The Rotten Tomatoes/Critic's Reaction Thread

Very difficult to move the needle now with so many reviews in. Low 80's is likely where it is going to stay.

'Captain Marvel' Now Being Review Bombed On IMDb

IbetQ54.jpg

looks like their review bomb attempt is completely falling flat

The people giving it a 1 dropped from 32.7 to 23.8 today lol
the people giving it a 10,9,8,7 are quickly gaining while the people giving it a 1 are rapidly losing ground. at the rate its going by tomorrow the people rating it a 10 will overtake the people rating it a 1

the movie overall imdb jumped from 5.6 to 6.3 ( its score is still rising rapidly )

these guys thought the could turn this into ghostbusters 2016
instead the trolls are falling flat on their faces

Maybe, maybe not. I remember GI Joe:Retaliation fail 25% on opening day.

I assure you Retaliation didn't have that many reviews. It won't fall 25%.

EDIT: just for the sake of it, I counted and Retaliation had 61 reviews before its opening day, 1/4 of the reviews Captain Marvel has. Rest assured. LOL

Whoah! I’ll post a longer review on the other thread, but....whoah. This movie deserves way better reviews, on the level of WW.

I avoided comparing it to WW in my review, because honestly I'd rather skip the drama and understand when people say we shouldn't be pitting superhero movies with female leads against each other, but, if we are to do this, acknowledging both movies should exist and thrive and only for the heck of it, I must confess I liked CM a bit more. I feel WW starts stronger, but ends much weaker than CM, and I'm not even talking about the final fight (which I find kinda meh, but ok), but the message it tries to pass is very uuuurrrghhh to me and doesn't mesh at wall with what just happened in the movie. But I really don't want to turn this into a war between the both of them, still like WW and can see why one would prefer it over CM. I just disagree.

Reviews are fine as is. Yes, given I find it a bit better than some movies above it at RT, I can agree I would rate it higher, but it's still a good rating and, in the end, it doesn't matter if it's above or below movie X or Y, everyone's gonna have their own rankings.

I don’t mind WW comparisons. It’s only natural, but in 5-10 years hopefully there is enough woman led films where these films won’t instantly be compared to each other rather than amongst the entire genre in general.

CM will almost certainly make more money than WW, but won’t match the critical acclaim or cultural impact. Might be unfair, but that’s the landscape and microscope it’s under. DC is going to have an even bigger hurdle to try and topple when they announce/actually go through with making a film with a titular black superhero.

I think WW is equal to CM personally: I couldn’t pick a favorite!

Agreed.

You know, I'm not sure about cultural impact. I'd bet we'll see a lot of little girls and not so little girls dressed as Captain Marvel from now on. That she is gonna be in that indie movie that could, Avengers: Endgame, doesn't hurt, either.

These films are always compared to each other, lol.

Wonder Woman had a headstart on CM in that she had a TV during the 70s that made her a bit of a cultural icon but I do think this film will help CM move up in the public consciousness among superheroes.

Ghostbusters 2016 was a box office disaster because of flaws in the movie itself.
Not because trolls tried to sabotage it with terrible ratings or scores.

If there are people here that did not like CM, I am okay with that
But in the last hour, I read both a print piece online and a video that just SAVAGED CM.

It wasn't objective criticism, they were attacking the film.
So be careful what reviews you read online, some of them will ENRAGE You.

So if some people actually genuinely didn’t like the movie that makes them losers?

Maybe you should go check the audience score for other "bad" superhero movies like Suicide Squad or Thor: The Dark World before saying stuff like this.

Anyone with a brain can figure out what is happening here.

Forgive me for not following RT and all that stuff. I don’t go by websites like that or critics really etc. I just usually make up my mind if I wanna take the time to see the film in theater, home release or not at all and then go from there myself. My bad for not living on RT or following it.

You're forgiven

Stupid people are mad at Brie Larson for stupid reasons, and that's why the movie has such a low score on RT. It has nothing to do with its quality. Not when other (worse) comic book movies have higher user scores.

Audience score is useless if people are misusing it.

Abudefduf already covered this but yeah. I’m certain there’s a few fine folks out there who saw the movie, didn’t care for it, and voted as such on RT.

I’m even more certain that for every one of those people, there’s a thousand fragile white men with nothing better to do than downvote a movie because their precious little egos were hurt by Brie pushing for more diversity in Hollywood. The horror!

Then WHY are you in this thread
