Sci-Fi The Running Man Remake with Edgar Wright!

For those that have read the novel and/or know the ending...

I wonder if they will keep with the ending regarding the plane and the Games Network tower, or change it.

The Arnold movie is an absolute classic but Edgar Wright doing another version is just fine with me, love all of his movies.

I enjoyed the Arnold movie, mostly because of him and his great one liners, but this is pretty great. I'm glad Wright is doing an adaptation. I didn't like Baby Driver, and as much as I'm curious about Soho, I'm worried it'll be a repeat, but this seems right for him. I think the guy needs something to balance him out like Pegg as a co-writer on the Coronotto trilogy, otherwise you get style over substance like Baby Driver.

I love the original Arnold film which to me will always be a classic, but I'm actually suprisingly open to this remake idea just because I know a director like Edgar Wright is going to bring a completely different feel to it.

I hope its more in the vein of his earlier stuff too like Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz than his more recent stuff like Baby Driver which I wasn't a big fan of either.

I certainly hope so.
It's a bit absurd IMO that a plane crashing into a building should remain so taboo. After all, car bombs, suicide bombers, gun violence in general are all far more common, and yet no one acts like we should never include those in a movie because it happened in real life.

Anyway, I did some more thinking on cast:

I agree.

It still blows my mind that David Starsky directed 'The Running Man'. :funny:

And I only just recently discovered that was Richard Dawson was an actual game show host.

I did not know that up until now.

He also directed this masterpiece! His last feature film lol

I had a conversation with my friend about this movie the other day. She was convinced it didn’t actually exist and it was just a Mandela Effect thing where people wrongly remembered that Shaq played Shazam (the superhero) in the 90s. So I guess she was half right, lol.

Adam Gibson and Howard Langston :funny:
And John Matrix lol. I haven't seen the Arnie version since decades ago and don't remember much of it, so a remake closer to the book sounds fine to me at this point. But they better not screw this one up.

John Matrix is the best movie hero name ever. Right up there with John Spartan, Frank Shatter, and Marshall Lawson.

For one, in the book he’s running around America sending in his own recordings.

Yeah that bit makes it a bit obvious to me why Wright will be hemming closer to the book than the movie. Because jfc, it isn't hard to adapt the novel to the modern era....

Jon Hamm as an "influencer" bounty hunter please....

I'm glad this might be his next project after all. I'm interested in The Chain as well, which a while back was rumoured to start filming this winter, but I like this even more.
