I really like the way he died. It showed just how brutally surgical a Terminator could be. No hesitation. We didn't need a Butch and Sundance, blaze of glory scene or a cliche "I'll keep him busy while you guys escape" scene. That said, I really like his character and wouldn't mind if they had a few Future only Episodes next season with him guest starring. That of course is dependent on whether we have another season.

Please, dear God, no. We just got past John being a whiny little kid; we don't need to have another one come along and take his place in that niche, especially not if it's gonna dilute how much of a pure, grade-A badass Derek was by showing us his incompetent younger years.
^ Indeed. I thought it showed just how going against a Terminator is almost futile. Even w/ all of his years of training & experience one shot = one kill.
Yeah, just like with John and Cromartie in the first episode. ;)

Well, when you deal with time travel, it's difficult to deal with stuff like continuity.

Nonsense. What they've done here, is make up excuses (the usual one of late, the 'multiverse') in order to avoid having to be connected to the franchise in any real way, while trying to use the concept in the narrative to explain why things don't fit (or why the production team is too limited to make those things fit).

Time travel doesn't have to make things ******ed, just as long as the creative staff on the show stick to the rules presented to them in the canon, or the rules they have set out for themselves (but if you're not gonna follow the canon, or introduce new stuff that is out of character of the franchise, then why connect to the original property in the first place? Why not use ones meager talents to create a new a fresh property allowing one the freedom to do what one likes?)

I find most of the seperation of franchise arguments come from the 'freedom' for the writers. Why would you sign onto an already established franchise/property if you want creative freedom? That's like a vegan going to a texan bbq, or a pacifist joining the army.

sorry for the rant

When the whole premise of the show involves going back in time to specifically CHANGE things, branching universes and/or timelines can be the ONLY relatively plausible outcome, at least in the Universe of TSCC, where the Many-worlds interpretation of quantum physics seems to have been proven already.

The future that created the man or machine that changed the past HAS to exist, as neither man nor machine would exist to change the past.

Then again, there are competing theories about this. Neither can be proven by any of us of course, which actually makes both theories equally [relatively] plausible.

Many-worlds interpretation
Novikov self-consistency principle

I understand the time travel theory... you don't have to explain it to me. The theory changes every 10 years.... so 10 years from now, writers will have a new excuse for mediocrity.

The theory advances every 10 years...

Fixed.

Those aren't just random people submitting/formulating those theories. Neither are they writers looking for excuses. Also, both theories I linked to are MUCH older than ten years and both subscribe/relate to theories that Einstein himself put out half a century ago.

except that quantum physics cause that and regular physics can rarely be put in the same theory and be proved correct.

I can't believe they killed off Derek. ;) Sorry to be late but I just watched the episode. This show had two things going for it, Derek and Cameron. And considering how marginalized Cameron has been for the last 9 episodes, Derek was really where it was at. They killed off a great character, right after killing off Charlie (not to mention Riley and Jesse, but great characters they were not).

I'm sad to see him go and in such a shocking way but that was a great episode all around. He and Sarah had a great scene, John and Cameron were interesting. Finally some real movement on the Weaver storyline and the end with John and Ellison. I really wish this show wasn't about to be cancelled.

no **** on the ages of the theories: THEORIES = unproven.

They are still looking for excuses to seperate their work, and cover for their lack of creativity(ie. make their contribution to the story fit in the universe at hand, not create a new universe where anything can happen), in the search of so called creative freedom. All they used this alternate universe concept for, is to explain why their background stories don't fit(too lazy to make it fit), why the movie universe and tv universe don't fit(to lazy to make it fit), and most especially, writers use this concept to basically avoid any consequence of timetravel,,, as everything can be chalked up to occuring in another universe or timeline: lazy, cheap, and annoying writing.

I'm not disagreeing with you about the lazy writing. I just don't think you should be denigrating the work of people a LOT smarter than you are, in the process of whining about the writing.

Also, you need to consider that, in TSCC, they've practically proven one of the theories in that universe (Many-worlds), so they sort of have to follow that causality pattern when it comes to time-changing events. What's funny is, the unrecognized T3 (by the TSCC 'verse), ALSO goes with the Many-worlds theory, since the future IS effectively changed by time-travelling, but the future that sent the time-traveller still has to exist. If you want to see what the self-consistency principle looks like, look to Lost, not in the Terminatorverse.

I'm not disregarding the theory, or calling the actual theory stupid. Quantum theory works. What I'm complaining about really, is the way it is used in media. The theory is cool... I just don't like the way sci fi writers have latched onto it as the Ex-deus... it's just too convenient. My beef is with the way the theory has been used by the writers, not the theory itself.

That would have been the opposite of what the creators were going for.

I disagree. The creators are all about exploring characters and who they are, right? Well, it's often said that it's only in the face of death that people reveal their true selves. I'm not asking for some ddragged out dramatic finish. Just wished Derek could've died seeing death coming and finding out if he fears death, accepting of it or angry for not finishing his mission. Have his corpse show something beyond generic blank/dead stare. All it would've needed were 5-10 extra seconds.

This is one of the things that impresses me greatly about the Lost writers: They took on the much more complicated [at least to write for] self-consistency theory of time and have been hugely successful in implementing it in a series that's spanned years.

I JUST finished watching last weeks episode online......seems like a good set up for tonight.

"Side effects of prolonged exposure to a Killer robot from the future are increased gambling, sexual or other intense urges. Some may expierience urinary bleeding."

WOW!WOW!WOW!! And the eel.............................!
